Christmas cards- SIGN UPS CLOSED

I had an idea that it might be fun to see if anyone is interested into doing group Christmas cards (with tea!) this year. We would probably see who and how many people are interested. Then you would send your own Christmas cards to everyone ends up in the final pool. So you should get back the same number of cards that you put out. When sign ups are over I’ll start a PM where everyone could put up their address.

It could be a small or big commitment, depending on the size of the group. I reserve to right to screen people out if it seems they are very new or not very active. I don’t want people to sign up just to get on the thread and steal addresses! I will probably limit the group to 15 people at most.

You should be following me so I can include you when we do the group message.

You have to be alright with your address being shared with a small to moderate group of people. You reserve the right to drop out right before we start if you get uncomfortable with the idea.

You could send everyone a sort of generalized card or personalize it based on what you know about them. The point is to have fun and reach out to people though, so you can put more or less effort into it as you like.

This would be a card and a small amount of tea, enough for two servings minimum. (That should fit in a holiday card envelope fine, I think…) If you would like to provide more, that is to your discretion. If you have any allergies or major dislikes, you’ll have to say so.

If you prefer not to receive religious themed holiday cards, you would have to indicate that.

If anyone has any input or a better idea of handling logistics, I would love the advice!

That sounds really fun! Would this be for US only?

I think we can make it open internationally. And if anyone doesn’t want to ship international they can just say so- and international people don’t have to ship to them.

I’m interested. I like the idea of limiting it to 15 people. That seems do-able. :)

Sounds cool. If you have this next year, count me in.

Does this mean you’re not interested for this year Lariel?

As we’re still getting settled, it is not practical this year.
Unless somebody wants a e-card.

Ooooo…would that e-card come complete with e-tea???? :)

Hehe. Um, maybe?>

I think this sounds like such a nice way to enhance the holidays! I almost never get Christmas cards, so this would be so fun for me :) I would love to do it!

As far as shipping internationally, I haven’t done it before. Is it more difficult? Can you get in trouble if customs stops it? I’ve been wondering about this with sending bubble mailer swaps to Canada and that sort of thing.

I’ve never shipped international either, so hopefully someone who’s done it can input.
Initially I thought tea would fit in the normal card envelopes? But I don’t know! Bubble mailers might be a better idea.

If sending bubble mailers or boxes you just fill out a customs for with what you’re sending (tea) and how much it’s worth, it shouldn’t be any trouble. I’m not sure about sticking something in a regular envelope though.

Thanks for the input, everyone!

are we talking about sending cards and tea at same time ?

don’t worry, so far cards i received from US over the years never have problems . They arrived nice and safely to my box. I don’t think postage will be a problem too. I am really looking forward to this, will be fun to get cards i mean the real snail mail card. E cards are also nice but you don’t get to hold it.The bonus part is you get to taste teas too. I must tell you that teas from me will be sachet type ok as i don’t purchase loose one. Just in case that some of you don’t prefer to have sachet tea, just voice out or may be i can tear the sachet n it will be loose tea. hahahha

Janie Teo – I’m glad you said that you don’t purchase loose. Otherwise that’s what I would have sent you! I’ll have to try to find a couple of bagged teas with pretty wrappers to add to your collection! :)

I have shipped bubble mailers to Canada and France with tea and had no issues. Like cookies said, fill out the small customs form and it shouldn’t be a problem. I would not ship internationally in a normal envelope though. Not because of customs, necessarily, since you’d probably still want to fill out the small customs form, but because of wear and tear.

With the post office sure to be slowing down toward the holidays, maybe it’s best to ship early to so people get their cards around christmastime. What do you guys think is a good date to ship by? Especially considering international shipping. I feel like I would want to ship by Dec 15th at latest.

I’m opening signups! Please reaffirm that you want to be in, and not just interested and I’ll put a list in the topic description.

please add me in ok, i loved the idea. My teas to send out will be naked ok. hahahaha i meant it’s sachet tea but without the wrapper as i took it for my collection n exchanging them to other teabags collector. But no worry, i’ll handle the naked teabag with great care so you still can enjoy the flavor of it. And for those who is going to send me tea, please send those with wrapper if possible so i not only can drink them but also to add into my 13000 different teabags collection. Thanks !!!!

Haha, I haven’t much in the way of wrapped teabags, but I’ll see what I can do!
Are you in the US or international? Filling out a profile would be a great help. =(

Dec 15 would probably be fine for within the US. For anything international, I’d not want to send after about the 10th.

Oh, and confirming interest. :)

Good point on the international mail. An early December send date is probably best.

Confirming! And I agree with Nicole that even a few days sooner would be good in case we do have some international participants.
