Whatcha all eating for Thanksgiving today?
Would love to hear what everybody’s eating today. Anyone doing a pilgrim style meal like venison, berries, etc.?
Oh and Happy Thanksgiving!
We have our own tradition. Boeuf Bourguignon and Creme Brûlée. Husband isn’t from the US so he doesn’t have the lifelong Thanksgiving tradition going on, and the girls don’t like turkey. So this is our much beloved made up tradition.
Oooh, my boyfriend’s family is all about the bourguignon, not a single one of them likes turkey! It is so rich and good!
My husband I will have the traditional turkey but our ‘adult’ daughters are vegetarians, so they are having tofurkey. The rest is pretty traditional with an effort being made to make some of the foods a bit diet friendlier.
Turkey, cornbread & butternut squash dressing, caramelized brussels sprouts with lemon zest & walnuts, baked stuffed onions, chai spiced sweet potatoes cooked in coconut milk, fresh cranberry & orange relish, mashed potatoes, gravy, green salad, brioche rolls, pumpkin pie, caramel apple pie, whipped cream, tart cherry mimosas and tea/coffee
My family is having ham this year, I think, with the usual sides. We’re a smaller group than usual because neither of my siblings are coming out until Christmas. My husband and I are vegetarian, and we usually have to bring our own protein (BYOP), but this time, my mom found a vegetarian loaf that’s supposed to have roasted chestnuts and cranberries and a pastry shell…should be interesting!! We are also having chocolate java chip bundt cake to celebrate my birthday, since it happened recently. We always celebrate it at T-day, and I love that cake!
ooh that vegetarian loaf sounds like it could be really yum, color me intrigued.
So, it was delicious! It was actually hazelnut, not chestnut, and was by the brand Field Roast. We have probably 2/3 left for leftovers!
TURKEY! My mom got a massive one which we will live off of for days, as is tradition. She is way too awesome for her own good, I always offer to help with the cooking but she enjoys doing the massive feast solo, as long as the other people deal with the cleanup :P
She went all out this year, making sure I could have my longtime favorites (first Thanksgiving together in 4 years!) but with a Gluten Free twist. So the official menu is:
Ambrosia salad (sans marshmallows, the OLD family recipe)
Macaroni and cheese
pecan crust pumpkin pie
mashed taters and gravy
green bean casserole (my personal favorite)
pea salad (also a favorite)
asparagus and broccoli
I will have to get a photo once she is done. I plan on having an endless supply of Shou Puerh for us. I love having Thanksgiving with my boyfriend’s family, but being in charge of making sure 16+ people get tea means for the last couple of holidays all the food was gone by the time I was able to sit down and eat!
