Thanks so much for the sample Stacy. Although I wouldn’t say that any Darjeeling falls in my top ten, I like to keep them in the rotation, and this is very nice. I need more tastings before I rate it, but I like it. It is refreshing and bright with layers and nuances. It has a very very low astringency and a delicate floral flavor that lingers.

I appreciate the free sample of this that came with my Butiki order. This is a really nice Assam, and like some others have said, it reminds me of some of the Chinese blacks I enjoy. I had it last night, and should have written a description yesterday for more accuracy. Suffice it to say, I like it enough to re-order it.

drank The Black Lotus by Butiki Teas

I’ll chime in with other reviewers who were pleased with this very nicely blended English Breakfast tea. I was lured by the description on the website and the sale price and I’m so glad I placed the order. I love the smooth, malty, sweetness of it, and the lack of astringency/bitterness. Black Lotus is right up my alley!

Finished this off today. Upton’s description is on the money. Usually, Darjeelings are not my first choice, but this one is a nice change this morning. It is gentle but very flavorful, and I don’t find it to be astringent. The flavor is reminiscent of some leafhopper teas I’ve had, but since it is a 1st flush, not sure if leafhoppers are feeding on the leaves that early. Very nice way to start the day.

Often, I’d prefer decaf tea at night, but up until now, I’ve been disappointed with the ones I’ve tried. Since I’ve been extremely pleased with Butiki Teas, I decided to take a chance with Organic Decaf Korakundah. As I sip it right now, I’m pleasantly surprised. It is certainly the best decaf black tea I’ve had. I’ll be getting more of it.

drank Vanilla Comoro by Harney & Sons
166 tasting notes

The weather has been very unusual in Atlanta this summer. 22 degrees below normal yesterday, high in the 60’s. Another cool day today. Last summer was very hot and dry; this summer cool and wet never getting above 92. Normally in the summer I enjoy all my teas iced, but this evening, being a little chilly, I pulled out the last of my Vanilla Comoro. It will please vanilla tea fans I think. It’s a little astringent for my tastes, and I prefer unflavored teas these days, but all in all, its decent for an evening cup.

drank Laoshan Black by Verdant Tea
166 tasting notes

Last summer I posted that I enjoy Laoshan black cold brewed. Today, based on some advice on the Verdant website about making iced tea, I brewed it using 1 Tablespoon in 8 oz boiling water x 1 1/2 minutes, then added ice to make 16 oz iced tea. This did not dilute the flavor. I got 2 more steeps. Very tasty and refreshing with nice chocolate notes!

Today, I made this double strength and added ice for a delicious iced tea. Love it this way!

Sil, I can seriously see this as a “go to” when I’m in the mood for iced tea. Its that good. I did put some stevia in it, which I do for all iced teas.

Ill have to give it a shot, maybe tomorrow :)

This time, I left it to Stacy to pick the samples to send with my order and am so glad she sent this one. I actually have never been that big on caramel, but surprisingly, I’ve found that I usually enjoy it in teas a lot. On the other hand, I really like vanilla, but have been somewhat disappointed with vanilla teas. My first impression of this tea is that it is very well blended, as I’ve come to expect with Butiki teas. The vanilla, caramel, and Assam play off each other nicely. I will definitely order it in the future. (Can’t get the rating thing to work-will try later)

Tea became a passion for me a year or so ago. I fell into it almost by accident, but now I would say it has captured me. Tea is more than something tasty to sip on, it is an experience-it helps create a mood and is quite interesting to read about and study. I discovered loose tea at the tea store at my mall. I was looking for alternatives to Coke Zero and white wine. Say what you will about that mall chain, but I’m sure it has raised awareness about tea where I live, in the land of bagged mass produced black tea prepared with lots of sugar, Atlanta, Georgia. That’s what happened with me, and then I started perusing the internet and found Steepster.

When I take on an interest or a hobby, I go into it full force and become a little obsessive about it in the beginning. I have always been adventurous when it comes to trying new foods, and once I discovered there was so much more out there than the Lipton tea I saw my mom drinking when I was growing up, I started trying many different varieties of loose tea. I have discovered I like all kinds of tea. I I veer a lot toward straight teas, especially blacks, but occasionally drink flavored also, especially Earl Grey. I like flavored Matcha lattes too. I’ve completely given up diet cola, which was becoming too much of a habit. I think tea is a lot healthier. When I rate a tea, it’s just my personal taste, so I don’t tend to post on things I don’t care for. Also, I tend to sweeten my tea with natural stevia (a no no for some!) I am a married Registered Nurse, with two kids in college and one in medical school. My husband is not hooked like I am, but he often enjoys a cup with me. I enjoy many other interests, including reading, gardening, and the arts. I’ve taken up hiking in the past year too. Anytime I can include tea in these pursuits, I do! It has become a bit of an obsession for me.
