drank Salted Caramel by Bigelow

This tea has a surprisingly good caramel flavor for a grocery store brand and has become a mainstay in my household, at least until/unless it goes away when out of season. It’s not cloying or obviously fake-tasting. (I mean, clearly it hasn’t got real caramel in it, but I don’t sip it and go “wow, this sure is some Artificial Caramel Flavor” like I do with Bigelow’s vanilla tea.) With a little milk it’s a nice, creamy, sweet-but-not-overpoweringly-so black tea. It really isn’t salty at all, though; calling it “salted caramel” is clearly a trend-hopping marketing tactic more than an accurate description. But it’s still good!

I find stevia really gross-tasting, and while it wasn’t very noticeable for most of the cup of tea, once I got to the bottom it was overpowering. I could’ve stirred a bit better, but that would just have distributed the stevia flavor throughout, so I’m not sure that would have been better. Pretty disappointing; I’ll stick to chamomile.

Not terrible, but tastes like fake vanilla and is missing the creaminess of the real thing. I know you can’t expect much else of a grocery store tea, but still, a bit disappointing.

drank Raspberry Mint by Tea & Absinthe

Received this as a sample when I ordered Starry Night (which is also great). I wasn’t sure raspberry and mint would go together, but it really works; somehow the slightly tangy sweetness of the raspberries and the cool, refreshing mint taste come together into a nice summery tea that’s great iced.

drank Mango Green by Simpson & Vail

Found this one disappointing. I could barely taste the mango at all.

This is the best mango green tea I’ve found so far and I’m really annoyed about that, considering that you can’t get it outside of the sampler and it would be overpriced anyway if you could because it’s a Disney souvenir. It’s got a lovely smooth fruity flavor, very mellow as long as you don’t oversteep it.

This is a custom blend that I tried while searching for a decent replacement for Teavana’s ginger coconut rooibos, which was one of the only teas of theirs that I really liked. Despite the fact that it’s made up of three different teas and therefore has a lot going on (including chai spice, vanilla, and apple pieces along with the coconut), the rooibos taste still overpowers the rest somehow. Not terrible, but my search for a good ginger coconut rooibos continues.

I’m surprised to learn that this has peach and apricot in it; when I drank it it tasted decidedly fruity, but not like any fruit I could identify. There was almost a raisin-like flavor to it. Peach is usually a very identifiable flavor; I’ve had plenty of peach teas in my time and this tasted like none of them. Overall it wasn’t a bad tea, it was just kind of weird, which I suppose is fitting for a Mad Tea Party.

Kind of an unsubtle, uncomplicated, cloying flavor. Easily one of my least favorite teas. Since you can’t buy it anymore, this isn’t really useful information, but I was annoyed that its overall rating is as high as it is, so here we are.
