1792 tasting notes

I must have had this maybe six or seven times by now but still haven’t written a note on it because it’s been mind-numbingly baffling to my taste buds.

How is this strawberry? Even the dry leaf doesn’t smell anything like this. It took me a long time to figure it out, but finally I realized that this reminds me of a mint plant my mom has in her garden. Not your usual peppermint or spearmint, but some sort of other mint plant. And it doesn’t smell like mint, but rather the distinctive green scent that the plant has.

Also, it tastes like it too. I’ve chewed on those mint leaves a couple times and they have a green-like taste to them too. This is what this tea tastes like. Every single infusion. I’ve done up to three and never have I come across a strawberry flavour. Weird, eh?

Hmmm, I’m not sure when you bought this tea but we had an issue about 6 months ago. Apparently all the lavender buds went to the bottom of the tin and really drowned out the strawberry flavor. Do you see a lot (and I mean a lot) of lavender bits in your tea? If so, let me know and I can send you some tea from our recent batch.

OMGsrsly

This might have been part of our huge bulk order. I have some as well, I’ll check it out when I get home. :)

Thanks for the feedback, Stacy! I just finished the last of it, and don’t recall any lavender flavour, and I’m pretty good at picking out that flavour. What’s even more bizarre is I didn’t see any lavender buds mixed in with the leaf at all. Not a single bud, just oolong. But granted, I think I split it with others in the group and got only like 1/2 oz. or something, so maybe it’s just luck. That group order was placed around that time, but who knows. I’m curious to see what OMGsrsly has to say.

Butiki Teas

Hmmm, maybe it wasn’t part of that batch then. This tea is probably going to be discontinued for a more interesting flavor.

OMGsrsly

Haha. I might have all the lavender in my portion. I just checked, and there’s lots! I didn’t notice it at all when I was portioning it out, OR the last time I had the tea. I get a lot of floral from it, but nothing specifically lavender. Or minty. Of course, I still have a cold, but I can’t really taste or smell strawberry either. I’ve been storing it in a wee tea tin.

It strikes me as a green garden. Incendiare’s description in that respect is very accurate for me. Is this oolong really floral? That could be part of it.

Fjellrev

Weird how you got lots and I got none! But I didn’t technically get a true mint flavour, but rather a chlorophyll, green, plant-like flavour that matches up to the plant-like component my mom’s mint plant has, excluding the mint component, if that makes sense.

OMGsrsly

Yeah, green growing garden, right?

Fjellrev

Yes. :D It’s interesting but totally not expected. I can see lavender working well with it.
