1759 Tasting Notes
This is the tea we blended at our tea guild meeting a few weeks back. We added rose oil and rose petals to black tea (I’m not sure what leaf type but I am guessing Ceylon) It was a fun experience, but not something I’m particularly interested in. Me… I enjoy drinking tea, discovering tea, and learning all about it.
Anyhow, this didn’t turn out as I expected. It’s rather light, and refreshing. Not as rosy as I’d hoped. After adding some agave, some serious citrus notes emerged. It made me wonder if there was any Darjeeling mixed in. (I arrived late, so it is possible!)
Overall, it’s very pleasant and easy to drink. I might make the rest of it iced, as I think that would go over very well. Darjeeling tea seems to be the only caffeinated beverage I enjoy cold so hopefully this one will pick up on those similarities :)
ummmmm yeah!! I’m packing up the house tonight, so that we can reno. So… I needed some tea! and I’ve been trying to drink down my sample stash. I think it was Jenn who gave this to me? big thank you! though I haven’t seen ya in awhile… hope yer still around :)
Anyhow, I can seriously taste upside-down pineapple cake! this is SO good. Pineapple… yup. Cake… yup yup! oh mann this is great.
Now, I’m not sure I’d repurchase this because I always seem to be in possession of one fruity tea or another and knowing me I’d never finish of the packet. There are times when nothing but a fruity green will do, ya see… like today. I had a serious hankering. So, while I am in love with this, and it is super unique, I can do without. But it’s on my “to be seriously consider” list! Frank, you are a potion master <3
Hahaha! At first I thought you were going to RENO as in NEVADA! (well hey West Coast) .
I forgot about the reno-VATE! Duh!
If we have a Steepster Meet-up I have a timeshare in lots of places! Vegas, Seattle, Wine Country, CA….would be crazy!
Peaches! oh yes, peaches in droves. So good! Muchos thanks to Ashmanra for the sample!!
Very similar to the same tea blend from Tsaa. I’m not sure which I prefer. When I first tried it, the peach overwhelmed me. Then in later steeps(I had three), it balanced out with the tea base.
In comparing it to the Tsaa version, I think this version is less “fuzzy” and sweet but I need to try a side by side to be sure.
Sooo… which do I prefer? throws up hands I really don’t know!
Thanks again Ashmanra!
Glad you liked it! I thought it was great iced, and was pleased to discover yesterday that Whole Foods carries a number of their loose leaf teas.
ahh I just realized, this was my 600th note! not a big milestone, but its something to smile about :)
Fires here again (larimer county, 10,000 acres already the air is like Lapsang Souchong) . Ugh! And high winds!
wow what a treat! thank you so much Ashmanra!
This has a great peach flavour, similar to the black peach tea from Tsaa. In fact, they are essentially the same with a different base! If you like green tea and peaches, this is the one for you :)
Personally, I prefer the black tea base but this is lovely for a change!
Ohh man what a great tea. I love the white ones with some hazzah behind them.
What a body! A very sweet, mellow cup. Reminds me of orchids, orchid marmalade maybe. The first steep was my weakest… they seemed to grow in character each time. The last one, of four, had a really sweet finish. Almost syrup like. One day, I will order more of this. Ahhh I wish this was more than a sample!
“… with some hazzah behind them.” Hilarious! I just had to look that word up online, and here is one interesting link http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Hazzah
It’s got lots of possible uses. So, hazzah back atcha!
omg I can write a tasting note?! yay!
Though I don’t have much time. Just got home and I am soooo sleepy.
Anyhow, this is a very good dessert tea. Super sweet, like toffee. With milk, just a little… it tastes almost chewy.
In fact it reminds me of the coffee/pu-erh from Davids tea, only better. Much better! (it doesn’t make me ill, for starters)
My last steeping, I enjoyed without any milk at all and it was just as yummy as it was with it. That.. is one of the markers I look for in a remarkable tea. Oh yes, so good!
Drinking this again tonight… after reading Kristaleyns review. I dug through my entire cupboard and found it wayyyy in the back. That’s how badly I was craving! lol
but I am SO glad to have this. Ugh, I need to pick some up asap, but then if I do, I need to drink it before it gets stale! Hmmm, the life of a tea hoarder :)
The rating for this holds, I really enjoy this tea!!
What a funky looking (and sounding) tea! That is an incredible picture (like something out of a Sci-fi movie). The `immortality tea`, huh? Interesting …
This was the sample I took home from Saturday’s tasting. Now I regret not saving it for a gaiwan experience. Or maybe a true gongfu, as I think it really is meant to be brewed that way.
This time, I think I used too much leaf and not enough water. The first few steeps were intense!! strong and bold! So much that I had a hard time distinguishing notes. But… I did find a heavy sortof malty cocoa, it reminded me of wheat in some ways as well. In later steeps (I made it to 5!) the cocoa started to emerge more, and balance itself out with the malty wheat part.
Overall, I quite enjoyed it. I was a little surprised at how different I found it from their version of Golden Monkey!
Another nice fruity green! only that is all I can really say about it.
Two good steeps and then the third lost flavour, and I can’t say there was anything specifically strawberry but I did get a hint of something unique, which could have been the rhubarb.
I doubt I’d buy this again but it was lovely nonetheless.
This was my favourite out of all the teas I sampled today, and sadly also the first. WOW!! I wanted to take some home with me… but it was absurdly expensive and so I settled for something else instead. Until I drink down the rest of my teas there really is no justification in spending that much money on one tea.
Anyhow, the tea…
Tao brought out two varieties. One of them fresh, and the other from a 100 yr old bush, and then the leaves were aged. It was similar in flavour, if not a little more robust and less smooth.
The taste was sweet and deep, not laying on top or in the middle. I mean, the sweetness seemed to permeate the entire sip but not in an overwhelming way, but more balanced… it was a light tea after all. The sweetness lingered afterwards as well.
Such soft downy leaves! and that aspect seemed to translate into the tea somehow. It tasted soft, and round as well.
Second infusion was the best, a little sweeter and rounder and just oh so soooo very tasty.
Now I’m wondering if I should have just put it on my credit card… sighs
Tea guild! I wish I could join!
If you ever make it up to Toronto, we’d love to have you at a meeting! :)
