6106 Tasting Notes
Very bright orange flavour, a bit of tartness, a bit of earthiness, but overall actually quite a decent orange tea. No fishiness to note, either. Not a huge fan of flavoured pu’erhs, so I won’t get any more of this, but it’s blended pretty well, IMO.
Preparation
Honestly, this was better than I had expected, but not a tea I need any more of. Had it in a Timolino at work, and thought that the coffee flavour was pretty tasty, and it perhaps would be good with milk, but whatever was causing the sweetness (chicory???) made it a little weird and unpleasant for me. Also, kind of fruity, which was… weird. Not too surprising that it was okay though, since I do like the flavour of coffee, and it was added with the help of real coffee beans… but if I want coffee, I’ll get coffee. I’d rather just have tea. So thanks, but no thanks.
Preparation
Yay, a sipdown! Thanks again Cavocorax!
One of the truest rhubarb/strawberry teas I’ve tried, though it really only holds up to a single infusion before becoming quite muddled. I’m quite over that flavour pairing though (at least for now), but I definitely do prefer it with this black base as opposed to a green.
So one of the perks of working in customer service, especially front desk as in my current employment, is that you actually get to know people. Well enough that people now ask me how many teas I brought to work today (one day I had at least 6 of my Timolinos lined up at the front to make a gorgeous rainbow – people kept asking if they were for sale… :P DavidsTea should really be paying me for this advertising, since I keep directing people there to buy them if interested…). Anyhow, one of the regular ladies apparently also quite likes tea! And gets her brother to bring tea over (by the carton) from the US when he visits. This is one of her favourites, so she brought me an individually-wrapped teabag to try out. I was super curious, because I’ve read quite a bit about turmeric tea in the last while, but haven’t bothered to try it quite yet – so this was my chance!
Now to the tea – the teabag was one of those silken types, and had I more time, I probably would have transferred it to an infuser, but I was in a rush, because work. Anyways, it was yellow and powdery from the turmeric, and powerfully gingery. Steeped, it smelled kind of herbally, and I was kind of concerned about how the flavour would be… with good reason, because honestly, it was a bit strange. EXCEPT! Omg, the aftertaste. I don’t normally like licorice root, but combined with the ginger in this tea, it was so good. It took a few seconds to hit, but when it did, it was powerfully sweet and gingery before fading into a lingering sweetness. I will admit to gulping the tea solely for the aftertaste, so I really didn’t savour it at all. It wasn’t objectionable, though, just fairly boring other than that lovely, perfect ginger sweetness. A resteep brought out more ginger, and the sweetness was still good, but 2 infusions was probably enough for that teabag.
Overall, if you’re drinking this to sip, it’s maybe a bit boring. If you’re going for health properties and/or the ginger sweetness? Probably a good choice.
Preparation
Sipdown! A big cup of meh. Random-fruity black. Not even as much interest as Fantasy Island, which I care little for as well. Glad it’s gone – I just figured I’d go for a random sipdown tonight.
Preparation
Picked this adorable tea up at the Toronto Tea Festival – my only purchase there, in fact! (Go me!) I just couldn’t resist green oolong pressed into a little tiny square cake.
Anyhow, I found this tea to be pretty enjoyable. A bit frustrating to steep, because it was too large for my infuser, and the water didn’t cover it all, but the flavour was good. Smooth, creamy, fresh-tasting oolong, with some floral notes, but not a dominant flavour. Again, more detail to come in future notes when I have a life again.
Preparation
Picked up some of this out of curiosity, as usual (but especially since Sil liked it). And overall, I think it’s not bad at all. Tough to beat the liminess of Watermelon Lime Slushie, which I drank at the same time, but it was certainly lime-flavoured, not too tart, and not heavy on “irrelevant” ingredients. I’m just not big into herbals/fruit teas at all any more, so it didn’t really pique my interest beyond sampling it, but I’m certainly happy I did. As long as Lime Gelato sticks around, though (please tell me it’s not discontinued?), I’m good for a lime tea. (I’d go with Butiki’s or 52teas’ versions, but both are not readily available. Sigh.)
Preparation
Lame/sad sipdown story here…. I accidentally dumped this into an infuser with 52teas’ Pumpkin Chai, because I didn’t look first :( Because they are both blacks, there was no separating them, so I just dumped half the leaves in one infuser, and half into the other. Ending up with, of course, two mugs of pumpkin chai. :( Not how I wanted to say farewell to this tea, but what can you do?!
Delicious. I did a terrible thing and used my travel mug for my first taste of this tea, but I don’t regret it, because even then, it was really quite tasty. I’d love to try this one with short infusions, so hopefully will have the time to… eventually. Anyhow, flavourwise it’s very creamy and incredibly fresh-tasting. Reminiscent of spring, if that’s possible. Again, I drank it a couple days ago and didn’t write anything down, I just really enjoyed it. The second infusion was okay, but not as magical as the first (and I’ll give it at least one more).
Also, a huge huge huge thanks to Tea Ave for sending this free sample my way! And I have to note the excellence of their tea packaging – samples in resealable, scent-proof plastic pouches, with incredibly detailed tea info on the front, including roasting and oxidation level, which I find very interesting! Looking forward to seeing their website up and running, and making an eventual purchase!
Preparation
Another tea that I can’t write a great note for due to not remembering, but that I believe I enjoyed, and am happy to have a fair amount of. I thiiiiink that I didn’t brew it long enough the first time (recommended 4 minutes, I used 3), so I’ll alter that next time. Resteep seemed pretty weak, too.
