drank Roasted Chestnut by DAVIDsTEA

This tea made a pretty good eggnog latte – good chestnut flavour and the sweetness of the tea was masked because the eggnog was already sweet. Kind of made me want to pick up a bit more before it’s gone.

2021 Sipdown 114/365!

Sipped down one of my reblend pouches of this. It’s not as good as the original, maybe less creamy and less spiced, but still tasty.

Tasty latte the other day, although I prefer my teas without chili, in general.

Gave this a fairly long infusion (not totally intentional) and I like the result. Sweet, a little tangy, definitely kind of jammy. Certainly a bit reminiscent of cranberry sauce. I did use a fair bit of tea for this cup as well, though, so not the most economical tea.

drank Pumpkin Pie Matcha by DAVIDsTEA

Had forgotten that I’d tried this before. Still doesn’t quite match my idea of pumpkin pie spicing but it’s alright as a latte. Prefer the Vanilla Chai, EG cream, and some of the fruitier ones (which oddly, I don’t actually own…)

Eh, this was a big cup of nope for me this time. I really want to like it but I think the rooibos has too much flavour that I don’t enjoy, which mars the experience for me. I just want to taste the ginger/lime/vanilla.

Review for the Anne reblend. It’s not as tasty as the original Frank version (Frank reblends weren’t as tasty either tbh), but I do like the warming strawberry cinnamon combo, and despite being a solid… 6? years old, this was still a nice treat to drink.

I adored this one by Anne.

Eh, yuck. I really wanted to like this but I am very averse to something in this tea, and even as a sweetened latte (!!), it was drinkable but not particularly enjoyable. Looking at the ingredient list, I was expecting to see chicory or something along those lines, but the only ingredient flagging to me is the roasted yerba mate… which I actually typically don’t mind? So it may be a combo of that and the spicing. Aside from that… elusive flavour I’m having trouble pinpointing, I thought it might have been decent…

I should really start a “giveaway” box…

Ha ha I have a “rehoming” box where I put things that are just not my cup of tea. Like lavender… XD

Omg, I love lavender in tea. Funny how we are.

I’m a lavender fan too. In fact, I like almost all the “taboo” flavors in tea (hibiscus, licorice root, etc.) But I have an extremely strong banana aversion and avoid banana teas like the plague, which are always wildly popular on here. I’ve just settled into being the weird one out. :-P

Lavender’s high on my loved list too! (But not hibiscus or licorice, hahaha.) My problem is definitely remembering that I have these teas to get rid of… and then finding someone to take them! This one, I might be able to hand off to a friend’s husband who loves coffee in tea, although I don’t know his thoughts on chai/spice.

One of the bright spots of going through my 52teas bins – I found not one, not two, but THREE pouches of this! And best of all, the third pouch is almost full. (I knew that I had two pouches, actually, but also knew both had max 1-2 cups in them, so it was a big and pleasant surprise!) In light of this discovery, I decided to celebrate by drinking some and nearly finishing off a pouch of it. So tasty, creamy lemon lavender.

drank Earl Grey Cider by 52teas

This was a delightful find! I didn’t even remember that it existed. Although I prefer creamier earl greys, I did rather enjoy this tea as the citrus/bergamot was at a nice level and the base was smooth. I don’t know that I tasted too much apple.

Bio

I have always been a tea fan (primarily herbals and Japanese greens/oolongs) but in the last year or so, tea has become increasingly more appealing as not only a delicious, calming drink, but as a relatively cheap, healthy reward or treat to give myself when I deserve something. I should clarify that, however; the reward is expanding my tea cupboard, not drinking tea – I place no restrictions on myself in terms of drinking anything from my cupboard as that would defeat my many goals!

My DavidsTea addiction was born in late 2011, despite having spent nearly a year intentionally avoiding their local mall location (but apparently it was just avoiding the inevitable!). I seem to have some desire to try every tea they’ve ever had, so much of my stash is from there, although I’ve recently branched out and ordered from numerous other companies.

I like to try and drink all my teas unaltered, as one of the main reasons I’m drinking tea other than for the flavour is to be healthy and increase my water intake without adding too many calories! I’ve found that the trick in this regard is to be very careful about steeping time, as most teas are quite pleasant to drink straight as long as they haven’t been oversteeped. However, I tend to be forgetful (particularly at work) when I don’t set a timer, resulting in a few horrors (The Earl’s Garden is not so pleasant after, say, 7+ minutes of steeping).

I’m currently trying to figure out which types of teas are my favourites. Herbals are no longer at the top; oolongs have thoroughly taken over that spot, with greens a reasonably close second. My preference is for straight versions of both, but I do love a good flavoured oolong (flavoured greens are really hit or miss for me). Herbals I do love iced/cold-brewed, but I drink few routinely (Mulberry Magic from DavidsTea being a notable exception). I’m learning to like straight black teas thanks to the chocolatey, malty, delicious Laoshan Black from Verdant Tea, and malty, caramelly flavoured blacks work for me, but I’m pretty picky about anything with astringency. Lately I’ve found red rooibos to be rather medicinal, which I dislike, but green rooibos and honeybush blends are tolerable. I haven’t explored pu’erh, mate, or guayasa a great deal (although I have a few options in my cupboard).

I’ve decided to institute a rating system so my ratings will be more consistent. Following the smiley/frowny faces Steepster gives us:

100: This tea is amazing and I will go out of my way to keep it in stock.

85-99: My core collection (or a tea that would be, if I was allowing myself to restock everything!) Teas I get cravings for, and drink often.

75-84: Good but not amazing; I might keep these in stock sparingly depending on current preferences.

67-74: Not bad, I’ll happily finish what I have but probably won’t ever buy it again as there’s likely something rated more highly that I prefer.

51-66: Drinkable and maybe has some aspect that I like, but not really worth picking up again.

34-50: Not for me, but I can see why others might like it. I’ll make it through the cup and maybe experiment with the rest to get rid of it.

0-33: It’s a struggle to get through the cup, if I do at all. I will not willingly consume this one again, and will attempt to get rid of the rest of the tea if I have any left.
