This is FAR better than I expected! I didn’t have high hopes (I love Den’s Extra Green, and nothing I’ve had in the genre has lived up to that one), but it was a great cup!

Based on reviews, I was expecting awful. So it was a pleasant surprise when I could easily drink the entire cup!

This was FAR better than I expected it to be! The cranberry wasn’t overpowering, but it was present. It smells great. I’m looking forward to more!

This tea has a bit more of a “fresh” feel to it than I would expect. I guess it’s from the actual candy canes that are in the tea. (Really! I saw several, with tea stuck to them, in the tin.)I think the thing I like most about this tea is that it’s clearly tea with peppermint in it, rather than a minty tisane that has some tea to it.

I am such a sucker for samplers. I just ordered the adagio holiday stocking stuffer set that included this and five others. It’s good, though I think it could use some sweetener. It actually makes me think back to the hazelnut tea (it’s not quite the same, but reminds me of it) and makes me think I might need to order a larger quantity of that one.

I am also a sucker for samplers. I LOVE to try all the options!

After yesterday’s day-long-pot-of-oolong extravaganza, I thought I’d try the same for this tea (I had a sample of it to finish up as well). And I have to say, it just makes me miss the Hawaiian Oolong. It’s good, and it’s clearly an oolong, but it just lacks a hint of the sweetness and butteriness that I came to expect after yesterday. I won’t be ordering more, though I am minutes away from caving and making another pot of the Hawaiian one.

(I could tell this tea wasn’t hitting the spot when I was tempted to make a cup of blueberry green Republic of Tea, which is perfectly fine, but not something that would normally compete with a Samovar tea for me.)

It’s been a long while since I’ve had this tea. It’s one of those ones I love, so I leave it sitting there for when I have more time to enjoy it. Today I thought to myself that I don’t want it to age out of being amazing, so I should break it open again and make an entire pot (to resteep all day long). And I’m so glad I made that decision. I forgot how large the leaves are! And how nearly sweet the oolong is! It’s a great pot of tea!

I am finishing off a tin of this at this very moment. It’s crazy to know, but I’ve had this tin for exactly 19 months and 1 week. My in-laws brought it to the hospital when we had little Leif. And I just didn’t have time to make tea for the first six months or so, and then when I did have time, I always made “real” tea. I have fond memories of this one, though, as my Dad kept teasing us about having the people’s republic tea. I believe we even have a photo of it in our album.

It’s a decent decaf green. I don’t know that I’d get more since I can have caffeine again, but it was a perfect one to have on hand for this last year and a half.

I’ve been into tea, at some level, since college with a first tin of loose tea brought back by my parents from Oxford. My love of tea increased with a visit to Boston and a chance cup at Tealuxe. Since then I’ve only gotten more interested in tea and have developed more of an appreciation for it.

tea rating guide
(updated 12/2010)

100: a perfect cuppa. these are the teas I’ll keep in my cupboard and tend to be one per type of tea.

90-99: will definitely get more of this tea

80-89: likely to get more and perhaps it will become a favorite with time

70-79: very good, depending on my mood or the season

60-69: wouldn’t actively try to get this tea, but also wouldn’t avoid it in a tea shop or restaurant

50-59: run-of-the-mill tea for me

40-49: decent, would hit the spot in some moods, but probably wouldn’t purchase it for my cupboard

30-39: okay, will try again, maybe

20-29: meh. I’d try this tea again if no other were available

10-19: drinkable, but a forced cup

0-9: didn’t even finish the cup
