I visited a girlfriend in Oxford last month, and, as we all know, you are not legally permitted to visit England without purchasing and returning home with great quantities of tea. Of course.

We were a little late in the shopping day, and another tea shop Allison had wanted to show me was closed, so we wandered into Whittard and browsed about for a bit. We sampled the Piccadilly Blend that was out (fantastic, by the way!), and hesitantly opened a few containers on the shelf to smell inside. The Vanilla Shortbread was an instant draw to both of us, and we both loved the smell. The shopkeeper came over to help and heartily shook the canisters first before encouraging us to smell again, and this tea just smelled like heaven!! We both instantly said we would take 100g. There was no resisting!

We tried it the next morning, and it’s lovely! It has a delicious buttery cookie flavour with just a touch of vanilla and a hint of floral note from the cornflowers. I had mine with Alpro almond milk, and it was like having dessert for breakfast. I’m now jealously hoarding my stash back here in Canada, and dreading when I run out!

Picked this up on a whim as a reward tea without having tried it. It sounded intriguing, and I’m glad I gave it a shot. It’s mild and pleasant, and has a wholly unique taste to any other black teas I’ve had. It’s got a nice savoury flavour, with sweet hints and undertones of earth and dirt (not in a gross way). I like it!

This tisane was in the advent calendar, and I wasn’t expecting much, but it completely shocked me with how much I loved it! It’s tart and sour and citrus and refreshing…just perfect. I have a lot of friends who disagree, but I’m really into vinegars and strong acid flavours, so the punchy, sour citrus of this blend is right up my alley. I picked up another 50g as a free reward, and I’m looking forward to trying it iced once the weather cooperates. ;)

I finally got to try this tea before Christmas in the advent calendar, and it was sooo delicious! I was thoroughly impressed, and picked up 50g in January once the free tea rewards were available. It’s creamy and savoury and complex with lovely floral undertones. My only issue is that it seems to taste better the hotter it is, and my mouth is really heat-sensitive, so I end up scalding myself, haha. It’s worth it…

Meh. There is something in this blend that I really don’t like. Now that I’m looking at the ingredients, I think it’s probably stevia. Really, can’t people let us sweeten things on our own, if we so choose? I find stevia to have a really wretched aftertaste. I also didn’t think the blueberry taste was prominent enough overtop of the other ingredients. Anyway, super bummed, because I love blueberry, and one of my friends said this was hands down her favourite tea, so I was excited to try it. I think I’ll have to try it with another tea…or something…

I don’t go caffeine-free often, although I probably should do more often. Any case, I bought this twice without even really wanting it, because it came in the “Back from the Dead” collection, and also in a little coffin box with a black cat on it. And again, no power to resist anything spooky! So now I have a lot of Swampwater, haha. Fortunately, I quite enjoyed it! It tastes like a really nice fruit punch, and that’s about all I remember tasting. I was rather distracted at the time doing other stuff around the house, and it was kind of late in the evening, but I’ll definitely keep this one in mind for future evening hot drinks, and maybe I’ll hang on to a bit to try it iced in warmer weather. Because winter is coming. ;)

This is a quite nice brew, if you like banana bread. It’s definitely got strong banana flavour, and there is a nice volume of nut, without being overpowering, and somehow it achieves breadness in there. Maybe because I’m expecting it? For whatever reason, it’s there, and this is a very nice evening drink. I don’t tend to buy a lot of herbals because I mainly like my tea as a stimulant in the morning, and I just love black tea so much. I ended up with this one because it was in the “Back from the Dead” collection and I have no power to resist spooky things. I’m glad I got the chance to try it, but as nice as it is I’m not an enormous banana fan, so I don’t think I would stock it. Which is good because it disappeared from the store very quickly.

I think I need a re-do on this tea. As much as I found it nice, I got none of the chocolate flavour everyone raves about. This tasted like a black tea with lots of strawberry and some rose petals. Definitely not bad! I liked it! But I was so looking forward to this chocolate dipped strawberry taste that I may have overhyped it for myself. So, yeah, I was a bit underwhelmed, but I’ll take another run at it and see if I can find the elusive chocolate flavour. Not rating for now…

What a treat! This is a very refreshing tea, and nice for mornings when I’ve already had caffeine, and don’t want to overdo it. It’s got a lovely lime/apple flavour, and is juicy and fresh, with a creamy tone. It’s wonderful hot, but I bet it sings as an iced tea. Unfortunately, it snowed here a couple of days ago, so I’m thinking iced tea is months away.

I want to eat this tea! I’m so happy I decided to order this on a whim. The reviews were decent enough that I was pretty sure I wouldn’t hate it, and I sure don’t! It tastes most strongly of coconut and sweetness, like a macaroon. There is a nutty flavour dancing around from the pecans. Drinking it black, I didn’t taste any chocolate, but with milk I found a very mild chocolate flavour. Kind of like a chocolate drizzled macaroon instead of a chocolate dipped one, if that makes sense. It was lovely both ways, and while I’m not always in the mood for a sweet tea, I’ll definitely be keeping this one in stock! I can’t wait until Mum comes to visit so I can share some with her. She’s a huge coconut fan, and this tea reminds me so much of her Christmas macaroons. <3

Bio

I live in Toronto, Canada, land of the fiercely intense, but short, summer, and absurdly long, equally fierce, cold autumn/winter/spring. Tea, coffee, soup, stew, chilli, mulled wine, and hot cider are staples here for a good part of the year.

Currently, I’m really digging plain black tea, chocolate and caramel accented black teas, and chais. I’m not into super grassy teas, but I like a good, smoky jasmine green. I’m told I should try some lapsang and pu’erh, which I intend to do, but I’m hella lazy. One of these days!

I live with one (very loud) Siamese cat, one (floppy-eared and goofy) Doberman Pinscher, and one (somewhat introverted and stoic) man who indulges me shamelessly. I’m pretty lucky. :)
