513 Tasting Notes
Finishing off samples today. After the disaster that was Razzmatazz I thought I would finish off this sample too. This was a much more pleasant cup! A little understeeped (I did not have a lot of leaves left). But still sweet, nutty, and super creamy in flavour. I loved this tea the first time I cracked open the sample and this cup only served to reinforce the opinion. I know I am trying to cut down on the number of teas in my cupboard, but this is mighty tempting and I just happen to be by a David’s in a few days…
Sometimes I don’t know why I bother trying… I remembered that I had opened my sample of this and obviously, based on my rating, not liked it. I am less sure what possessed me to think that I should try it again (because obviously I must have been mistaken). I think it is my vain hope that this could be the raspberry iced tea I have been dreaming of and looking for. Second try steeping the rest of my sample and nope, this is not it. This doesn’t taste at all like raspberries. I don’t even know what it tastes like it is such a muddled flavour. Just, not good. Not for me, glad the sample is gone, and I must remember to never give this a shot again.
I keep icing this, convinced that I must have made a mistake and I actually don’t like it. However, it continues to be a great tea. I like the underlying taste of the rooibos and I think it enhances the fruit flavours nicely! If you like a fruity rooibos, this one could be worth a try.
Woke up with a cup of this today while I continue to watch back seasons of Sons of Anarchy (such a guilty pleasure, but I love that show). I had forgotten how spicy this tea is (chai, I know, but mornings are not my best time of the day). The first few sips were spent with me reflecting on the fact that I was tasting more spice than pumpkin and was this a good thing. Apparently it was, as I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the cup. It is definitely a chai in the sense that the flavour revolves around the spice notes. But, as the temperatures are dropping, I am gravitating more and more to the spice based blends. The cloves are a nice, comforting flavour and they are offset nicely by the squash notes. And pumpkin sprinkles are always a fun touch!
Brewed a cup of this tonight for knitting night with the girls. Between trying to teach a friend how to crochet her hat and helping watch another friend’s toddler, this tea got lost in the shuffle and brewed for quite a long time. Because this is a new tea to me, I was worried that it might over brew and the rooibos notes become to apparent for me. Much to my relief, it was the orange and the vanilla notes that grew in strength. This made for a fantastic cup of tea, light on the rooibos but tons of orange and vanilla flavour. Much enjoyed!
This is a neat tea. Really not the type that I usually go for, but neat nonetheless. I really get the oolong and the mint. The lemongrass sort of softens the taste of the oolong, but it is not hugely apparent on its own. This tea has a really sharp mint taste followed by a strong oolong base. I am not an oolong fan on a good day, but I actually like this tea. Also, I can appreciate that it is a solid blend. If you like mint and you like oolong (and you are not offended by a hint of lemongrass) it might be worth giving this tea a chance!
Again, was worried about this tea but loved the smell of the leaves so much that I had to give it a shot. I brewed it long and did not sweeten it to try and give it a good shot. First sip and… I was pleasantly surprised. Orange and vanilla dominated with the rooibos taking up the end of the sip. This was a really nice light tea and I can see it working really well and an evening cup this fall!
I love this tea. I always forget about my lonely bag in the back of my cupboard, but when I rediscover it I am inevitably right back in love again. The tart bite of apple pairs so nicely that the toastiness of the popcorn and the subtle underlying sweet of the maple. It is my one of those amazing teas that doesn’t really over brew or need sweetener. I toss a tea bag in my travel mug and just forget about it until mid morning, at which point it becomes a welcome treat!
