A smooth, not quite bold, every day type of tea. But don’t get it wrong. It is not an everyday type of tea because it is average. This would be the best of your every day type teas.

drank Apple Crumble by Shanti Tea

Nope. I wanted to like this. Dry this has almost an alcohol-esque smell to it. I tried it a few times with cream and sugar and without. Without cream and sugar it tasted a bit harsh… bite-y. There was some cinnamon and maybe a wine like apple flavor but not in a good way. The cream and sugar muted it a bit but it also muted almost everything else. Just didn’t work for me.

drank Scorpio by Adagio Teas - Duplicate

I’m really surprised that this tea is rated as low as it is (currently). It is sweet, smooth, and has a few layers of flavors to chew on. Over steeping can lead to bitterness but it shouldn’t be an issue if you are paying attention. Then again, I may be bias because as a Scorpio, it could just naturally agree with my palate! ;)

drank Masala Chai by Adagio Teas

I am pleasantly surprised by this. Really nice balance of spices and a smooth mouth feel despite a bit of bite (in a good way). Tasty and comforting. I am a fan! Which is semi surprising as I am beginning to realize that despite Adagio being my first experience with a larger tea company (and loving the creativity given with fan blends and the point system online), their tea seems to be lacking most of the time when compared to other teas I have had.

But this one? A-ok in my book.

drank Tangerine Green by Prestogeorge

This is actually one of the better flavored greens I’ve had. The tea is clean, fresh, and silky feeling. The Tangerine flavor is subtle but lingers very nicely on the back of the tongue. I’m really digging this tea tonight.

drank ginger peach black by Prestogeorge

This is a decent enough tea. A nice peach scent but the flavor isn’t as pronounced as the smell. The ginger is minimal. The tea itself is not super high quality but is also not bitter. Middle of the road really. The saving grace is I was able to get 4 oz for around $5. I still am not sure I would buy this again. Too many teas out there that are better than this one.

drank (Red) Maple Spice by Shanti Tea

Very solid Rooibos. Actually, it barely gives off the typical Rooibos flavor. A light, sweet, spice is present here and it’s not over powering. Second steep I added a drop of real maple syrup. Really nice. A great tea to have at night.

drank Ginger Sencha by Shanti Tea

I might be the first one to say this but I kind of wish there was more ginger bite to this one. The tea is very smooth and flavorful and there is a ginger warmth to it. I am of the ilk that wants ginger to bite me and hard. Don’t get me wrong, this is a really good tea. But I wouldn’t mind if more ginger happened to slip in the mix

drank Smoked Maple by Shanti Tea

I didn’t get too much smoke from this but it was very drinkable with a slightly sweet maple undertone. Add in a few drops of maple syrup and enjoy!

Bio

Michigander, Husband, father of three, lover of tea, books, nature, gardening, and passion. Stay at home dad currently. Previously a preschool teacher.

I have now completed some tea swaps and I am so totally up for swapping! What a cool way to connect with fellow tea lovers and try some new teas. My tea cupboard on here is woefully out of date though.

Black tea has been my go to tea for some time. Oolongs are good too but mainly roasty oolongs. I’m finding that there are some green and white teas (mostly Moonlight Whites) that impress me lately which they never used to do. I am getting into and developing a taste for Pu-erh. I have tried raw and my Ulcerative Colitis just can’t handle the roughness of it. So I stick to ripe Puerh. I am recently drinking more herbal tea or Rooibos especially STRONG ginger blends. I’m not too picky.

Some of my favorite places from which to purchase tea are Whispering Pines Tea Co, Verdant, A Quarter to Tea, Beautiful Taiwan Tea Co, Bitterleaf Tea, and Yunnan Sourcing.

Rating system:
90-100: Some of the best I’ve ever had. I’d be a fool not to keep it stocked as often as possible
80-89: A damn good tea. Not to be missed
70-79: A good tea but lacks the wow factor. More than likely a simple tea that could be an every day option
60-69: Eh. This is okay. Not swill by any means but fairly underwhelming.
50-59: Not really doing it for me. I’ll finish it but please don’t bring me any more.
Below 50: Life is too short to waste on things such as this
