This was in my tea calendar yesterday and I didn’t have time to try it. It was good timing as I need something to help wake me up this, er, afternoon. I’ve been in bed most of the day feeling off so wanted something bold and vibrant and a breakfast tea seemed to fit perfectly.

This will suffice, but for me it’s kind of just okay.

tea calendar!? Do tell!!!

nomadinjeopardy

DavidsTea had a 25 Days of Tea advent/whenever calendar, and I just had to grab one.

Unfortunately it was a really limited run so while they are still in some of the stores they weren’t available online. But it’s been very fun! http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/photo.php?fbid=473748067909&set=a.60428447909.68462.55013852909

I’m not sure what to make of this yet. I think I’ll leave the rating till next time.

This is only the second genmaicha I’ve ever tried. I definitely prefer the extra green to this, though this was nice enough. I can’t detect much of the satsuki.

This was my first experience with genmaicha. I know I should probably have tried genmaicha before ordering this, but I loved the aspect of the matcha dusting too much.

I love it. This felt like a snack, and the toastiness was a nice, different flavour. The leaves even stayed at the bottom of my cup for the entire duration and never turned bitter.

drank Matcha Kaze by Den's Tea

I am thrilled with this matcha.

I have to disclose that I am a complete novice with matcha.

I ordered this because I wanted to like matcha. From my experiences I had started thinking I was probably never going to really enjoy it, but I wanted to at least be able to accept drinking it semi-regularly to see if it helped with my health and because it seems so appealing!

I mixed this up today when I was treating myself to a home spa day. I didn’t get much froth, but I think I’ll need to play around with matcha:water ratios. It was a much different colour than the other matchas I’ve had; kind of radioactive green as opposed to a muted shade. I tentatively took a sip, and was shocked!

This is good! I think it is delicious, which is much better than the tolerable I was looking for. Smooth and mildly sweet. Not grassy, bitter, or sandy. I sifted my matcha for the first time, which must have helped with the texture, but this is just completely removed from the other matchas I’ve attempted. Both of the others I’ve tried have been from retailers with good teas, so I thought I was getting an accurate picture of what matcha tasted like. I was wrong. I don’t know how this one compares to other good-quality matchas, but I am so pleased. I’m glad this is sold at a good price so that I can drink plenty and not feel too bad about ordering more. I am so confidently converted that I threw some of my old matcha into the face mask I was making.

This is lovely.

I can find floral and especially jasmine flavours very overbearing. I tend to avoid jasmine. This is a beautiful flavour, though, and gorgeous scent. I also love big leaves and watching them in my cup, and this definitely humours this part of me. I didn’t need many pearls to make a nice cup of tea.

Mm, the second steep was even nicer. This may have been due to the shorter steep. The hint of bitterness from the sencha in the first round was gone. I can see myself drinking a lot of this. It’s great for this awful winter weather, but should also be great iced.

Yes, I like this one iced…. I brew it normally (hot) the first steep. Then I add ice to the pot and wait. Once it melts, it’s cold and really nice!

nomadinjeopardy

That sounds like a great way to go about it. I’ll have to give it a try (and Den’s other flavoured senchas).

Pineapple sencha is awesome!

When you open the bag, you’d swear you’ve just cut into a fresh pineapple. The pineapple is less intense once infused, but delicious and lingers a bit after a sip. It’s so light and refreshing, I can see myself drinking a lot of this any time of day. The sencha comes through really nicely though I think I’ll experiment with the very short steeping times recommended.

And I’m going to try a re-steep now!

drank Love Tea #7 by DAVIDsTEA

I love this one.

All the flavours work together really nicely, for me. It does seem like a romantic tea, if there’s such a thing, but it’s also great when I want to feel pampered. I drank this tonight in the bath. I taste the chocolate and the strawberries and a hint of the rose and I I like it! I’m always worried by the smell because it’s kind of strong and maybe even sour, but once infused this is lovely.

I had this to go from Davids this evening while walking around, running Christmas errands.

The only other time I’d had it was from the 25 Days of Tea calendar. The smell hadn’t really appealed to me and I wasn’t too sure with the first few sips, but by the bottom of my travel mug I was intrigued so I wanted to try it again. I really like it. It was cold out tonight and this kept me warmed up but was also very refreshing. It would probably be great iced.

This smells awesome. Like brownies.

I’ve got to admit to being a little underwhelmed by the flavour, though. I think I’ll need to make it stronger next time, probably using more leaf than I usually do. I like it, but it was a bit watered-down tasting. The spiciness that comes on at the end of a sip is intriguing, but I’m not entirely sure where I sit on this one yet.
