1113 Tasting Notes

I’m glad I only had one sample packet of this. It is drinkable, but not my favorite shu ever.

First steep was a little musty…subsequent steeps are a little more open, with a sweetness and nuttiness. Not bad, but not something I’d purchase :)

boychik

I guess we are just spoiled;)

Stephanie

Yeah, I partially blame you, LOL! You have sent me SO many delicious shu puerh samples :D

boychik

Any time;)

drank Peach & Thyme by Fauchon
1113 tasting notes

Thanks for the sample Cameron B! :D

I hot steeped this one and poured it over ice to take to work with me this morning. I find I like these fruity Fauchon teas iced the best. The peach is very nice and the thyme is not too strong or too weird or too overpowering. I’ll definitely pick up a tin if I ever see one at TJ Maxx, but I checked my local store again last night and we are still Fauchon-free.

Now I kind of want to experiment with peach/thyme flavored desserts…ooh or maybe jam!!!

Cameron B.

I really need to try more teas iced and cold-brewed, I just never know how much tea to use. :P And if you want more of this one, I’m willing to share!

And peach & thyme jam sounds lovely! Or a peach & thyme tart on puff pastry! Hungry! XD

Stephanie

Hehe, I like the tart idea. I’m hungry too! Stuck at work a little while longer, boooo.

My rule for hot brewed iced tea is I use twice the amount of leaf, so it is double strong when I pour it over a whole glass of ice so it will not be too diluted. Cold brew is another beast all together. I usually only cold brew flavored greens, personally.

Cameron B.

Making iced tea seems like a good way to use up leaf quickly, so I’ll probably go that route for some of the teas I don’t like as much or have a lot of.

You could make peach & thyme jam, and then spread that on the tart and top it with fresh peaches and bake it! And then it needs whipped cream, lul. >>

Stephanie

Oh and no need to share more, I’ve got almost a full tin of pear and 2 more tins of Fauchon, a 2nd pear and also an apple coming to me soon from a very sweet Steepster pal :D But I appreciate it!

Cameron B.

I still have a little bit of pear that I need to try and write a note about. I like the apple a lot too! And the sweet almond & orange one. :D

Stephanie

I really want to find some almond and orange! One of my top fave Fauchon teas featured almond heavily. It was called La Naissance and I think its discontinued. http://steepster.com/teas/fauchon/41333-la-naissance

The pear is glorious iced :D

Cameron B.

Silly girl, I have a whole tin of it, I’ll send you some. XD

Stephanie

:D :D :D!

Tealizzy

Peach and thyme! So interesting…the jam idea sounds yummy! Ooh, maybe I should try peach and thyme scones!

I totally forgot about this sample! Yang-Chu included it with my portion of the group TeaUrchin order. Thanks again!

It has a mild but pleasant bitterness, and its flavor lingers in my throat. It has a nice flavor but isn’t very sweet. I like it, but I do prefer some other shengs in my collection :)

It is hitting the spot. I was definitely in the mood for sheng this morning!

drank Two Friends by Custom (Butiki)
1113 tasting notes

One of the first teas I ordered from Butiki was Three Friends, and I love PTA, so I was excited to see Two Friends as part of the Butiki birthday sale!

Orange is the primary flavoring here, with a smooth chocolatey undertone, of course enhanced by the scrumptious Assam.

I dig it! Good idea Sil! :D

It has been months since I first tried this shu sample from boychik, but I have been thinking about it a lot lately, and remembering it as one of the best shu puerhs I’ve ever had. I only have a couple of servings left but I had to have some today to see if it is as good as I remember it…and also to ask if ANYONE knows how I can get more of this cake? I’ve searched online and I guess it is sold out. Sadness!

I know there will always be new puerhs to try and fall in love with though, maybe someday ones even better than this one.

I am only on steep #1 right now but it is all velvety smoothness and cocoa richness…ahhhhh :)

boychik

I’m so glad you still like it. I’ll pm you later

DigniTea

Have you purchased cakes from Aliexpress? You need to be careful of the sellers and look out for fake products. I did not purchase mine here but this particular seller has been a good one for me in the past and they still list the 100 Year Revolution shu on their site (although I notice the price has definitely increased).

Stephanie

Thank you both! :)

DigniTea

Boychik’s seller offers a great price. If the tag on the back is authentic, definitely go for this one!

boychik

Looks authentic to me. But what do I know. I heard they are very creative with tags

mrmopar

Ada on the site boychick posted is agood seller. I would just email her and make sure she can get this at the same price as it has jumped since we bought it. She always has the real stuff in what I purchased from her.

mrmopar

Forgot to add, if she doesn’t have it available I still know a couple of other sources.

Stephanie

Awesome. You guys rock!

boychik

the price is the same as i bought in Feb

drank Caramel Apple by Butiki Teas
1113 tasting notes

Holy cow, I expected this one to be good but I didn’t expect to be this blown away! WOW!!!!

Seriously best apple tea I’ve ever had. The oolong is PERFECT with it. (note that I am not even a huge oolong fangirl or anything.) I wish I could find the words to describe it…but this is one of those teas that makes us think Stacy is some kind of wizard or something. It’s like the tanginess of the oolong aligns perfectly with the bite that a sweet but also tart apple would have, you know? The caramel is present but not overwhelming and certainly not fakey at ALL. I added no sugar and I’m sure it would elevate this to a dessert worthy treat, though I am perfectly happy without added sugar.

MAGNIFICENT!

Cameron B.

JEALOUS! Lol. I’m happy that it’s amazing, because I ordered some!

Marzipan

Is it a greener or oxidized oolong?

Stephanie

I think it leans toward the oxidized, Marzipan, BUT it is a LEAFHOPPER oolong! So, totally unique. I tried it for the first time plain recently too :)

Marzipan

Oh yummy.

Butiki Teas

I’m so glad you enjoy this one! I love how this oolong gives the flavor a baked apple flavor. :)

TeaBrat

whoa, I think I need to try it!

I’m a fan of white rhino so I was excited to try this flavored incarnation. I really wasn’t sure about the Butterscotch/Hazelnut/Mocha combo but since I love the base tea and really am a fan of Stacy’s flavored whites I thought I’d give it a whirl. And it works! It really works! The nuttiness and mocha enhances the malty darker side of this tea, and the butterscotch adds a sweet (but not fakey sweet) and bouncy overtone. I’m sure this would be amazing with sugar, but it is not the kind of tea that NEEDS it to be successful, which is GREAT IMO. Kudos, Stacy, this is another winner in my book, and SO creative! :D

Marzipan

Bouncy, I like that.

Cameron B.

Can’t wait to try this one! :)

Cheri

Sounds really good. I was kind of hesitant on this one, also not being sure about butterscotch/hazelnut/mocha combo. I didn’t get it this time, but maybe I’ll add it to my next order.

My Butiki order came yesterday! YAY!!! Happy Butiki day to everyone else enjoying birthday orders today, too!

I had to try this one first, after how good Stacy made it sound. It does not disappoint! Good darjeelings remind me of a cross between a black and a white tea. It has some delicious qualities of both. It is very smooth and has NO astringency. I find I actually prefer a little bit of astringency in my teas sometimes but this is pretty magnificent! The flavor is on the lighter side but the body of the liquor is somewhat thick.

I am enjoying tasting how the flavor is changing as the cup cools. This tea is complex and has a lot to offer :)

Stephanie

Resteep was tasty too, woot
