1113 Tasting Notes
Thank you SO much Keychange for a sample of this tea.
This is probably my favorite leafhopper tea I’ve tried so far, and possibly one of my favorite black teas of all time. WOWZA! I will be SO tempted to get some of this when I order Hello Sweetie and Lemon French Macaron when they are back in stock!
It’s like black tea had a baby with a belgian waffle :)
Preparation
Thanks boychik :D
Gosh I haven’t had an Earl Grey in forever! This is exactly as I imagined a Fauchon version would taste, mild base tea, with a floral bergamot cloud on top :)
Good if this sort of thing appeals to you!
I prefer A&D Mt Gray, Steven Smith Teamaker Lord Bergamot, Diamond Jubilee H&S
My old time fav was Jackson of Piccadilly
Another gift from boychik :D
Well, this one sure is finicky, isn’t it? I tried to drink this one for the first time on Saturday, but since I steeped it at like 190 degrees for 4 minutes, it came out very bitter. I could tell there was some nice natural raspberry flavor in there somewhere, but it just seemed very oversteeped and bitter/sour!
Today I tried again, a 175-180 degree water steep for around 2 mins 30 seconds. MUCH better! I’m getting the signature Fauchon froofy floral vibe now, with some nice raspberry on top. The raspberry lingers at the end of each sip as if I were eating fresh ones! I can’t seem to figure out what this base tea is, but it is not the typical Fauchon mild black base for sure. I’m not getting any almond, as one would expect from a macaron, but as a raspberry only tea it is successful.
In the end, pretty enjoyable but so extremely finicky I’m not surprised at all by the mixed reviews!
I started steeping all the Damman Frères (=Fauchon) greens at boiling for 1.5 minutes towards the end of my experimentation – it seemed like the best way to get some flavour all the while avoiding bitterness. Sacrilege, I know.
I got a sample of this one for free with my recent order of the original Brioche. I’m not going to rate this because I generally do not like this type of herbal, where it’s just a bunch of “flavorings” added to some chunks of nuts and or dried fruit that do not apart any flavoring of their own. (A la David’s Forever Nuts) Slap this flavoring onto some high quality decaf black tea, and we’ll talk ;)
boychik provided me with so many nice teas to try! This week is going to be such a treat :)
I was very intrigued by the notes on this puerh, so I was super pleased it showed up in my samples box. I drank it all day and found it to be extremely clean tasting. So very mild and pleasant. I bet I could trick a non-puerh drinker into liking this one. I don’t even really get an earthy vibe from it. It got sweeter an sweeter as the steeps continued.
Backlogging again!
I drank this on Saturday. Served some to my husband too, and we both really enjoyed it! I didn’t take detailed notes at the time, so I’ll wait till next time to give it a rating. It definitely had some strong florals, but the citrus and vanilla notes rounded it out nicely. Like other Fauchon I’ve encountered the base is mellow and pleasant. I think this would make a really lovely perfume! I don’t say that often about a tea I actually enjoy drinking ;)
Thank you so much boychik!
Backlog from yesterday!
I spent most of the day yesterday outdoors, cleaning out the garden beds and prepping for spring planting in a few weeks. Then in the evening it was Walking Dead and Cosmos time! I drank teas but didn’t take the time to log any.
Thanks to boychik for this sample!
Ruby blacks sure have a unique taste among black teas. My only other experience with them was from Mantra tea. This one is a little richer and more malty, with slightly less of a bright fruity taste. Very enjoyable.
Hong Yu is my new favorite tea is it so unique and complex if you get a chance try Rishi’s is it seriously the most infusible(bar pu er) and highest quality leaf I have come across yet. I also just purchased some from eco cha which I am excited to try their version but I have about 0.5 oz of rishi’s left and I don’t want too many open packages at once.
