So I was ordering coffee online from this Coffees of Hawaii place because of a promo they had for a certain coffee. While browsing the website, I noticed they had another little section for teas so naturally that peaked my interest, they had a few of them and I decided to give one a try. The main product is the coffee cherry, which is the berry that contains the coffee beans. I’m guessing they noticed the potential to turn waste into a product and revenue (don’t blame them) and it seemed interesting enough to try. I like cherries. I like coffee (please don’t flame me!), so hell add those two up, and my interest is peaking. This blend is one with vanilla and papaya leaf so I went with the one that sounded the most interesting/exotic.

Now onto the “tea” itself. Dark red/brown, lighter in colour than a black tea, smell a bit of leaves (banana leaves in particular, if i recall correctly). Taste, does not taste like coffee at all to me, main flavour I am getting is red bean, crushed red bean.. the type you get in like cold Vietnamese/Chinese drinks. I don’t know what papaya leaf taste like, and I don’t taste any vanilla at all. I didn’t notice any vanilla bean segments in my scoop so maybe that’s why.

Overall though, it’s interesting.. but not interesting at all at the same time. This was ok to try and it was cheap. I got it for $5 for 3oz shipped, so really no harm there. I will not try and re-steep this one, doesn’t seem like it would be any better. I actually drank this before my coffee, so I’m kinda looking forward and hoping the coffee is good.

lol did you order through RedFlagDeals? That’s where I got mine….ugh. I dearly hope the coffee is better than the “tea”

That is weird. I unloaded my bog of this on a friend, not I just have to find someone to take this hibiscus raspberry.

Stopped drinking water, switched to tea. =)
(ok, this is a lie but still :) )

How I rate teas is pretty simple, different teas have different expectations based on quality and price. I’ll rate a tea based on how good it is for its category/price point. I think i rate pretty fairly, I’m not afraid to give a bad score to a bad tea, and it’s relatively hard to get perfect score (partially because i believe there are only so many that can attain such a title)

I like oolong/green teas the most
black, white, tisanes to a lesser part.

I re-steep EVERYTHING, as that’s how I’ve learned from my parents. Blacks teas normally to a max of two times.

I like it when the tea actually looks of quality (eg. whole unbruised leaves). I hate it when i get a tea, and half of it is cut up stems of the plant… give me leaves!

I drink all my teas black and occasionally with sweetener. I do drink coffee too, and love espressos and cappuccinos. Yup, I do my coffee black too. Guess, it is to say I like strong flavours.
My current way of steeping tea, is my french press which i just got a month ago. I love it (well maybe not my cheapy one; looking to get a bodum one day). I used to just dump leaves at the bottom of my cup..

Ok. Rating meanings…

0-49: Various degrees of suck. Either terrible value or just not good.
50-59: It’s drinkable. I’ll finish my cup.
60-69: Not bad… but not good.
70-79: okay to drink, nothing too special, will not be a re-buy.
80-89: Enjoyable cups.
90-99: Worth holding on to.
100: Um.. I’ll tell you when I get here.
