6444 Tasting Notes
I iced this, and though the cup was underleafed it is still as delicious as last night’s cup. Creamy, sweet, and tastes amazingly of cake and icing and happy things. Thank you Roswell Strange for introducing me to this tasty brew. I am sad to see it go but it will be making it into my RiverTea order when I eventually place one. 159.
Thank you Roswell Strange for sending me yet another sample of this tea to try since I stupidly decided to hot brew the last sample I got. This is certainly better cold. There is a lot of creamy vanilla and quite a bit of currant flavor. Raspberry also comes through in a taste that is true to the fruit. At the back of each sip, there is definitely hibby tartness though it is not offensive and I am sure it could be muted with a shorter steep time. It is a good tea and I am glad I got a second chance to try it but it is not something that I urgently need restocked. I would consider adding it to an order though if I were placing one. 160.
Cold brewing this tames the rooibos and brings out a sugary sweetness to the tea. However, there is still a strong floral quality to the blend that I could do without. Thank you Scheherazade for sending this my way but in the future, I think I will stick to DAVIDs Birthday Cake rooibos instead. 161.
Cold brewed the rest of this sample from Roswell Strange overnight and I am still getting creamsicle from this blend. It is a touch more muted in this cup than the last but it is still very good. I might need some more of this one. Thank you for sharing Roswell Strange!! You always find such great treats :). 162.
I decided to have this iced and that was a great choice for this tea. The cherry flavor really pops and the chocolate notes take on a more milk chocolatey vibe. It is almost like a cup of liquid cherries garcia and it is great. Thank you Memily for this tasty, tasty sample!
Guess what guys?!? Sipdown!! 100 g and a broken kettle later and this tin is gone. I will probably buy this again but not for a while. Still, this tea always produces a solid cup and for that reason it remains a favourite. 164.
It definitely does feel good, especially because it is also my oldest tea. Now to work on Sugar & Spice.
Ceylon Star is my Sugar & Spice. I bought 7 oz or 8? Whatever those web special sizes are in. I think I’m down to 3 oz and I have until November to drink all that before it hits one year! :O
Thank you Scheherazade for sharing this with me but of the “birthday cake” teas I have tried, this is my least favourite. This is not to say that it is bad but I find the rooibos to be on the strong side and the taste to be mostly floral. The different takes on this tea tend to be more like icing or cake where as this is not something I would immediately recognize as a birthday cake tea. The rest of this sample is getting cold brewed as that is how I prefer DAVIDs Birthday Cake tea so maybe that will change how I feel about this blend…
ETA: Wow. I just read my last review of this tea and it is like two totally different teas. So strange.
This starts off tasting like white tea and then suddenly develops a banana flavor. It’s good but where is the passion fruit? Thank you Roswell Strange for sharing! I am always grateful to try a 52 tea and this one is good but not something I feel compelled to have in any sort of quantity. This sample is just enough to keep me happy.
I think you definitely like this one more than me. Do you prefer this or Buddha Bamboo? I still think Buddha Bamboo wins.
I think I may prefer this. Lately I have been getting a lot of currant flavor in my Buddha Bamboo and I don’t love that, though I still really enjoy the cup. I just really enjoyed this. Thanks again for the share :)
