It’s hard to write a note here after reading teaplz’s entry, because I feel like there’s nothing left to say.

Upon opening the can and smelling it for the first time, I was honestly a little shocked at how similar it smelt to a “standard” kind of tea you’d expect from a bagged tea bought at a coffee shop or something. For some reason, it reminds me much of Samovar’s Breakfast Blend. I expected a much more earthy smell than what I was presented.

But, I didn’t know what to expect from the taste so I boiled some water and steeped it and gave it a try. At first, it was what I expected. Kind of disappointingly similar to Breakfast Blend. But as I continued drinking I started to notice the different flavours coming out. I definitely can tell this is a far more complex tea than what you expect initially. I definitely can see the resemblance to pu-erh, and that’s a good thing because I like pu-erhs.

I think I might have to come back and re-rate this down the road after I’ve tried more of this tea.

Not sure if I can add anything useful to what has already been said about this tea, but as someone who never really had too much experience with Earl Grey before giving this one a try, I can say that I like it.

It has a very citrus oriented taste, with the actual black tea flavour mixing in together with the citrus almost as an after taste. As noted by takgoti, this tea is very drinkable without adding anything to it, although some might prefer to dull the sharp, complex (now I’m sounding like Jesse) taste if it’s too strong for them.

I drink this as an alternative tea to pu-erh sometimes to give my week a little bit of variety.

My first review on Steepster! Hopefully first of many…

I initially got this tea because it sounded like one of the more “normal” teas that Samovar offered, and after trying many of their more exotic options, I decided to give this a try as well.

Let’s see how I manage to express my experience with this… They say that this is the perfect ex-coffee drinkers convert tea that helps them wake up in the morning. I’d say I’d have to agree. This is pretty similar (but obviously different, as what would be the point if it tasted like coffee) and it does give a little bit of a kick, but not too much. I drink it black, as I have been doing with pretty much all of the teas I have been trying. I tried adding sugar a few times to some of them but I decided no matter how little I added, the sugar would somehow overpower the taste of the tea. I want to taste the tea, not the sugar.

Anyways, for $12 for a large can, this is a great deal especially because you can re-steep it a few times throughout the day. I think I can usually manage a good 4 steeps out of it before it starts to get thin. It’s a good alternative tea for me in the morning when I feel that I’ve had too much Maiden’s Ecstasy during the week. ;)
