drank Orange Ginger by Samovar
138 tasting notes

This is a very light herbal from Samovar. I’m used to them being a little heavy on the hibiscus or licorice root that they use as a base or to “sweeten”. With some of their other herbals the licorice can sometimes over power the tea. With this herbal it does not over power. This tea reminds me of my Aunt when I was little. She would always cut up some fresh ginger root and lemon peel and simmer it on the stove for hours. It would make the whole house smell great. I swear that just the smell would help me get rid of the cold that I had. This tea taste just like it without the ginger BURN in your throat and chest. Although I do like the BURN…:)

Nope, still not worth the effort…

I steeped this far less this time, and found that it was still bitter and there was a very distinct orange rind taste, not a light taste of zest but full on rind

The next and last time I try this one I will not double it when making iced tea I will stick with one scoop over ice and see if that will help this tea any.

I love oolongs. However I have not, till now, ventured into the realm of the flavored oolongs. So this is a first for me.

What a robust flavor! The hazelnut and vanilla compliment the oolong wonderfully and do not overwhelm the gentle oolong taste.

This was so good that I finished it in seconds, and went off to find out if I could infuse this a couple more times, as i do with other oolongs. This wonderful tea held up nicely for a total of 3 infusions; the last of which I got more of the oolong and less of the flavoring, but it was still there.

This is one of my new favorite teas!

It tastes quite like a mild Yunnan black, it has that same malty characteristic, though it lacks the smokey, tannic undertones a Yunnan usually has. The aftertaste has a touch of fruity sweetness and there are also hints of cocoa here and there. It’s an interesting, complex tea that’s expressed in nuances rather than bold, out-there flavours.

i know health benefit from dattan soba cha and I was so happy when i found this tea. it is so relaxing and it will help to build stronger veins. In japan it cost me $15 for only 100g.
but at Mariebelle, more than 200g for only $16. It is a good deal. I am drinking every day and i put sobacha in the soup and salad.

I really did not know if I would like this tea but I am a huge fan of pu-erhs. The smell coming from the tea is incredible. I enjoyed mine with a splash of almond milk and that is perfect. I actually think I liked the strawberry element a bit better than the chocolate, but it is a very unique experience.

First I want to thank Jimmy of Shui Tea for sending this sample along with my order it had peaked my curiousity when I read the description. The addition of stevia scared me and intrigued me the most based on my personal preferences of course.

As it turns out this is not really my cuppa. Of course I have only had this hot so far and it was recommended I try this cold and I promise I will. It was just to sweet for me and the sweetness tasted a little strange to me. I can’t really put my finger on it. It was however plummy as stated but still so far not my thing. The black teas are hardly noticeable, I did wish that would have stuck out a bit more. Once I try it cold I will reevaluate my review but until then I will keep things as they are.

Still very thankful for the opportunity to try it. :-)

for me, it’s the stevia that throws me off. It’s so odd!

I purchased based on a recommendation and I am so glad I did. It is wonderful steep after steep. Each bringing on new characters not present in the previous steep. I have to say the 3rd was my favorite. I got a wonderful well rounded roasted flavor balanced well with an earthy backdrop. The best part for me is how many different flavor profiles I got from one tea. Delicious!

First I want to thank Courtney of Little Mew Brew for Rescuing that tea from Retirement. I had never tried this tea before now and I am so happy I got it.

This is sweet, juicy, fresh, and the Sencha is delicate and buttery. I have tried this hot so far and although I imagined it would have been good it had surpassed actually surpassed expectations. Delicious and I can’t wait to try it cold.

I brewed some of this for iced tea last night… and it is amazing iced! Sweet and delicious. Just like with the hot tea, the blueberry really stands out, and the blackberry comes round near the tail of the sip. YUMMY!

Very refreshing.

if its steeps cold well, bet it would be fun to steep into heavy cream and make ice cream with

Made 1/2 gallon iced using 16 g. leaf at parameters stated below.
I think a shorter steeping time might actually have been a little better – it seemed to get a little astringent towards the end of the sip. I left it unsweetened and added it into a fabulous smoothie after my run, though, and the astringency was lost, thank goodness.

I do so love this tea cold!

drank Cream Earl Grey by TeaFrog

Yum…I can really detect the creamy notes. Citrusy bergamot and cream. I forgot how much I love Earl Grey! And this is a mellowed-out version. I can detect a bit of burnt sugar and vanilla, cream and some fantastic bergamot. A very tasty mix!

On my never ending quest to find the best tea that hails from the yunnan region I’ve given this remarkable tea a shot. The tea leaves themselves are quite beautiful, a fair amount of gold for not being a gold tea, they are also fairly large and as such they tend to twist when dried. As has been stated this is a very neat tea to watch as it steeps, the leaves graceful unfurl and untwist and seem to dance about in the beautiful amber liquor. The fragrance of the tea made my heart palpitate and I could tell I was in for a treat.

The best way I can describe this tea is like a good strong dark beer. It just tastes right and feels comfortable like you’ve known each other your whole life, yet it is best served as a treat rather than a staple. This yunnan has a wonderfully earthy taste and the pepper is surprisingly strong, and in a region known for smooth teas this is one of the smoothest even with the pepper accent. That is due to its malty nature. Without a doubt this is the maltiest dianhong’s I’ve ever encountered, and can become a bit overbearing after a cup or two.

Like an overbearing mother, this tea is best in moderation.

While overall this is a nice tea, it is not an accurate representation of a dianhong nor is this the end of my quest.

I’ve found some fabulous teas from yunnansourcing.com Have you tried them yet?

The Seattle Tea Snob

Yeah I try to order an overseas order every 3-4 months, and they are one vendor I’ve had success with. I drinking a very nice aged wild arbor dian hong at the moment that came from them, I have some golden curls from them too but they need to be aged a few years, still to harsh. Their pu collection is quite vast, not all fantastic stuff but they do have some pretty decent cakes.

drank Tropical Green by Harney & Sons

I made this one intending to drink it hot, but got busy and got cold in my cup. It was still very good! A friend was over to try pomegranate oolong to see if she wanted to order some but she didn’t care for it. She really loves her black tea and is a former coffee drinker. She tried this one even though we had let it get cold, and liked it more than the oolong. Go figure! She had been unable to find a green tea that she liked, so it was an unexpected bonus. This is a very smooth green tea, the first Indian green I think I have ever tried.

I have almost finished my tin! This is a really good oolong base, and the pomegranate is nice and refreshing on a hot day. A friend who drinks only black tea was trying this to see if she wanted to order some. I think it was a “no!” Surprisingly, we had a green and she preferred the green to the oolong.

this is the first Harney& Sons tea I ever tasted. For that it will remain a favorite of mine for life. The flavors are wonderful and refreshing! Sorry your friend didn’t like it, but you know what that means right? MORE FOR YOU!

LOL! Well, I guess she didn’t HATE it. She just said that she didn’t feel like she was drinking tea when she drinks anything other than black tea. She is a big fan of Queen Catherine and Vanilla Black. Next time she comes we are going to have Golden Snail. That one is bound to win her heart!

I made a smoothie and added a teaspoon of this in there: banana, yogurt and frozen strawberries + Red Matcha. Pretty tasty! I like it much better like this than I did as a hot bowl of matcha.
