New Tasting Notes

Backlogging from this am – I’m finally getting my sense of taste back so I opted to go with this favorite. My husband said I should have just drank Lipton the last week. He’s currently asleep on the couch, I might wake him when I go to bed. ;)

I’ve always been able to taste this tea no matter how stuffed up my nose has been. So I knew I was good here. But I kept hearing people say they tasted a chocolate flavor to the tea…I never did until today! Thank you grossness for allowing me to taste this little slice of yum in a tea I’ve had for a while. It may be an oldie, but it is still a goodie. PLUS I got close to 5 steeps out of it. I might have it again tomorrow morning. :)

ashmanra

Oh, this sounds wonderful! I may have to place an order for this one.

IllBeMother221B

I could send you some of what I have left. Five pearls is good for a couple of steeps. Let me know.

ashmanra

That would be lovely, but only if y truly can spare them! I will PM my snail mail.

I may have had to much tea today, I know that this is technically impossible but to much caffeine is not. Just hoping I don’t screw up my sleep rhythm. Nonetheless today was an exciting day, I compared this tea to two other TGY’s that I had in my cupboard. An interesting experience nonetheless.

I did come to on important revelation however, I really dislike this tea. Because now I realize what I have been missing and have to toss my other TGY’s cause I could never be happy with them again. This is indeed disturbing news.

But I will say it wasn’t even a contest, this tea blew my teas out of the water in every way. This tea is clean, crisp, beautiful and refreshing. The color is a beautiful green whereas my others had a nasty yellow tint to them, and the scent and taste didn’t even compare. Vegetal, buttery, smooth, crisp, clean, floral, refreshing. All things that pop into my head as the liquor hits my palate.

All in all a very nice tea, I am quite certain that there is probably better but this definitely ranks in the upper echelons. I will be keeping this one on hand for a while, at least until I find a better one that doesn’t cost me my friends firstborn, I am really running out of friends this way.

TeaBrat

sometime too much caffeine CAN be a problem. ;-)

ScottTeaMan

Funny :)). Now I have ANOTHER tea I want to buy from Teavivre. Looks like I found another tea company to order from.

OMG! This is the only tea I will drink. It is the best tasting tea ever. The aroma the flavor is like no other tea. I even took some to work and gave a sample to all my co-workers which was not a good idea because they all come back for more. I now have to hide my tea. To make matters worst I can’t seem to find this Tetley Earl Grey Green Tea on any of the grocery shelves at this time. Help Me!!!!! Was this product removed for some reason?

I find this tea to taste great even when steeped for a really long time. It’s drinkable at any point of it’s tea life. With slightly different flavor at different steep times. For me it never gets too bitter no matter how long I steep it. I’ve left it steeping for hours, then drank it cold and it still tastes great.

Highly recommended if you like black tea.

I was hesitant to try this since I’ve tried “chocoate” flavored teas before and did not like them. This one was pretty good though. I actually didn’t taste chocolate in it, but that helped me like the tea.

The first time I tried Tie Guan Yin, it was while I was watching my boyfriend play Dark Souls on PS3. Just tasting this tea made me think about that game, hahaha.

Anyway, this is a really good oolong. It’s not quite as tasty as Life In Teacup’s version, but it’s pretty close. The aftertaste is just as yummy as the tea itself.

The leaves came a little crushed though. I think they vacuum packed the sample too tightly. But it did come in the most beautiful little packet I’ve ever seen! So colorful with a gorgeous bird on it. Crushed leaves nonetheless, it still brewed a delicious cup. And it holds up to multiple infusions really well too.

This tea is like a meal. Lipsmacking good!

This was okay, but not my favorite tea. The smell sort of reminded me of pipe tobacco. Maybe it would be better with milk as a tea latte.

This is one of the free samples I got from teaforte thankyou very much. This smells like cloves and cinnamon. I honestly did not brew this very strong I will see if the taste changes if I can get another cup. I have this and waited until just warm and this taste clove like then abit of cinnamon some natural apple and abit of chocolate. I think this is really good and am thankful I did not not taste the roobios.

My first loose oolong, but I know I’ve experienced this flavor before. As Susan said before, this is the Classic Chinese restaurant tea. Its sweet, with a light woodsy aftertaste. This isn’t a very sophisticated description, but I think this flavor is similar to a Raisin Bran cereal in smooth liquid form.

I just received three different matchas from Got Matcha as part of a deal they were offering through Kijiji. This is the first one I’ve opened and tried. I think I’m going to try it a couple more times before rating it, but I like it more than Matcha Kaze from Den’s Tea (my only other matcha experience so far).

The powder is a light green, which I’m told is a good thing (less oxidation). It froths up much easier than the Matcha Kaze, and it seems to have a brighter, crisper flavour. It’s also sweeter—more what I imagined a matcha would be like from descriptions I’d read. The powder is quite clumpy, though, so sifting is a must. I’m also liking two chashaku scoops better than one in approximately 3 to 4 ounces of water.

The amount of match used during a formal ceremony is enormous, but, given what good matcha costs it is often difficult to bite the bullet and follow suit.

Clumping? Sounds like a humidity control problem — not good for tea. Maybe put some paper towel into the container and then remove it in a day and see if that pulls out some of that moisture before it ruins the powder.

TeaisforTara

Thanks for the suggestion, Jim. I was thinking it might be humidity too, and I was concerned when the info package said to store it in the fridge (that would probably cause condensation and make it worse). Fortunately it’s very dry where I live, so humidity in the air shouldn’t exacerbate it. I’ll try sticking a bit of paper towel in it, and we’ll see what happens.

I love, love, love this tea for both the taste and convenience! It is a great lazy drink to just leave in the bag, add sugar/milk, and let it sit around while you sip it through the night. Plus, this green tea does not become bitter no matter how long or hot you steep it. Yum, yum, yum!

Daddyselephant

I managed to find five boxes of this at my local bulk store…you know I stocked up!

KeenTeaThyme

Agreed – this is a fave (along with my love affair for sugar plum spice). :)

Daddyselephant

Oooo, me too, KeenTeaThyme!

Rabs

Totally agree with you! I need to find some around here and stock up for the rest of the year :)

mpierce87

Between this one and Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride, I’m a decaf happy camper. I think I will have to buy a couple more boxes if I see it again this season though.

Drinking this sample tonight and the moment I opened the bag the delicious smell was the first thing I noticed. It is a full flavored cuppa that I truly enjoyed. The sweet potato is the strongest in flavor but is perfectly proportioned. A delicious well balanced cup reminiscent of all feelings and flavor of autumn.

Finally took the opportunity to try this sample. It was a little strange for me. On first sip it tasted unusually sweet. Keep in mind used no sweetner so it was a bit of a shock. Once I got past that flavor I will say for a decaf it wasn’t awful. It actually tastes like tea but still it wasn’t my cuppa but happy I had the chance to try it.

drank Chiran Sencha by O-Cha.com

An excellent first infusion followed by a very pleasant second make this a great tea. The third infusion is nothing special, but third infusions rarely are for me in the world of senchas.

First infusion — 5 g. per 8 oz. water, 60 deg., 1 min.

Second infusion — 5 g. per 8 oz. water, 60 deg., 1 min.

Third infusion — 5 g. per 8 oz. water, 60 deg., 5+ min.

Preparation
140 °F / 60 °C 1 min, 0 sec
Cole

I would recommend increasing your temperatures and modifying steeping times a bit. Maybe 75*/90 secs for the second and 85*/120 secs for the third? I do recall the first and second steepings being the very best of this tea, but it’s been quite some time.

Yum! :)

sherubtse

Thanks for the feedback, Cole. I have tried various temps & times with numerous senchas, and it always seems that the third infusion is very weak and bland. Considering the success others have had with third (and fourth and fifth infusons), I think my taste buds are just plain weird! :-)

Best wishes,
sherubtse

Shadowleaf

Sencha from Chiran is, like many kyuushuu teas, famous for its sweetness, and steeping on 60 degrees is not a bad idea considering the extra amount of sweetness you will get from it. Have you perhaps tried increasing the amont of steeping time a bit? I usually use 6-7g for 1.6 dl. water and steep it on 70 degrees for about 50 seconds, but if I was to lower the temperature, I would increase the steeping time to around 1.5 minutes

I look forward to hear your thoughts on this matter. :D.

sherubtse

Thanks for the comments, Shadowleaf. Yes, I have tried increasing the steeping time. In fact, I steep the third infusion for 10 minutes. And it still turns out bland.

Best wishes,
sherubtse

Smells awesome. Second brew tastes good too. No sugar needed. Clerk @ store said to dry out the brewed tea and use for potpourri. I will try that.

This smells amazing wow oh wow yummy maple! I could just sniff this all day! Does that make me weird? Anyways, the tea is a very pretty tea with the little yellow petals in it. I brewed this up and was surprised when I smelled the tea again. It was very mild maple with more of a vegetable smell.

The color of the tea is a pale golden color and at first I wasn’t sure if I steeped it long enough because the color was pretty pale. The first tastes of a nice oolong tea with just a hint of maple… hmmm I like my tea to have a bit more flavor but as I have learned with the cheesecake teas from Franks the cheesecake flavoring usually develops when the tea has cooled a bit. I let it cool and the tea is getting more maple flavored. Not to bad, well the last bit of my tea cooled completely and there is the cheesecake flavoring, still not as strong as other blends of franks but it is there! I am really glad I was able to purchase this one, now I may resteep and see what if anything changes in the tea!

Well, I’m sorry to say it, but 52teas has finally disappointed me. 1 ounce? Really? Sure, it’s a white tea, and white tea leaves tend to be big and long and take up a lot of room. But does that mean you use half as much to brew a cup? Nope. In fact, most people see how big the leaves are and put too few in their strainer, thus creating a weak cup and furthering the misconception that white tea is tasteless water.

I mean, I get 2 ounces of honeybush and even 1.5 ounces of the Very Important Tea that costs an extra $6. But for my regular $9/week tea I only get 1 ounce??! That’s not really acceptable to me, especially because these white tea leaves are diced into little tiny, unrecognizable pieces.

But maybe I’m being too critical. Hold on, what’s that funky smell in my kitchen? What did the boyfriend cook for dinner last night? I should take the trash out and clean the litter box. Oh wait, that aroma is coming from this tea!! Eeek! What could it be? The kiwi? The tequila flavor?

Okay, maybe I shouldn’t be complaining that I only got 1 ounce of this. It’s not so great. The strawberry tastes like overly sweetened strawberry puree. The kiwi doesn’t really taste like real kiwi to me. The white tea is indistinguishable from the other flavors, unless it’s that funk. But I think the funk is probably coming from the “tequila flavoring,” whatever that is.

I thought I was going to love this. Bai Mu Dan is one of my top favorite teas in the world. I know its flavor very well. But I don’t detect that lovely flavor anywhere near my cup. :( I’m sad. I wish I didn’t have to write about such disappointment, especially since it’s the first review of this tea.

Don’t let my pessimism deter you! I gave it to my boyfriend to try and he said, “Mmm, it’s very good. First thing I noticed was how good it smells. Fruity. I really like it.” So clearly, this just isn’t my cup of tea. But it could be yours!

drank China Lychee by Upton Tea Imports

I didn’t like this tea, mostly because it really didn’t taste like lychee. While the tea leaves smelled like it, that smell didn’t carry over to the taste or the hot tea. All that I could taste was mediocre black tea, most likely the base.
