New Tasting Notes
this tea is AMAZING. it is the perfect blend of spices, fruits and flavour. absolutely love it. i find it tastes a bit like lemon meringue pie, not in an overpowering way though. definitely going to buy a tin next time i’m in the store!
Preparation
This is a giant ball of tea!
It’s very walnut-y, and reminds me of chewing on a pistachio skin. You might think this would also make it bitter, drying and overly tobacco-ey. Not so! In fact, it is very creamy. As you move through later steepings, it reminds me more and more of some sort of whipped, creamy nut-flavored ice cream.
I am very very excited to see what this will turn into as it gets older. I’ve still got half of a ball hidden away and out of my reach so that I can see how things get creamier and more whipped.
If you haven’t made this before, start with less leaf than you might with other teas. The tastes are definitely assertive, and if you pack your gaiwan or teapot too full of leaves, you might be overwhelmed in the first steeping or so (this is especially true if you’re making the tea for people who are in the mindset to dislike tea because “all tea is nasty and bitter and drying..bleh!”).
That being said, I wouldn’t ever agree with someone who calls this bitter. I’ve even tried making this in a big pot as an experiment; I feared this would become temperamental brewed in a big pot, but I was wrong!
A fun sheng to try now, especially for fans of bolder flavors.
An exciting tea to age for the future, especially with it’s notable creamy flavors and textures. I’m telling you, whipped nut butters…
This was my first time trying this tisane. Overall, I enjoy it! I will agree that it is a bit heavy on the hibiscus. I do like hibiscus, however, and so I don’t mind this. I tasted the blueberries, and just a hint of sage.
Preparation
1 TB for 450mL water, bare.
My first milk oolong, this.
The scent drove me wild. Wow. Creme brulee, condensed milk, toasty cream — oh, my. Like the silky fur of healthy short-haired cat: more, more!
First infusion (4 minutes) is more vegetal than milky, but that haunting lactose is still there. Each sip is different, with nuances of leaf, butter, faint flowers, and sweet milk. I’ve read other Steepsterites’ notes that the 2nd infuson of this one is best. I look forward to it while meantime blissing out on the first infusion.
This oolong is a totally new experience for me. And hey, it just helped keep me from freaking out about my kids spilling red soda on beige carpet.

Preparation
Took a cup with me to work today. I’m starting to think my stash is going stale. It seems like the flavor is weaker than it used to be. I remember this being a particularly strong black. But my tin is at least two years old, so maybe it’s fading because of that. I should never buy a pound of tea again. I have way too much flavor ADD for that.
Preparation
1 rounded TB for 450mL water, half a packet of stevia (equiv 2 tsp sugar)
It’s baaa-aaaack! DavidsTea has been tweaking the recipe a bit during this blend’s long absence, and they’ve re-classified it as one of their green tea blends versus a rooibos blend. That said, the amount of caffeine in the old blend could not have been very high; I regularly drank Super Chocolate before bed with no problems. The green tea that is in here is much more noticeable in appearance: long, dark and twisted.
The bright — sometimes fruity — taste remains as a dusting of cinnamon plays with the gentle green rooibos. I am seeing much more green tea in this than before. The cocoa bean pieces seen bigger. While this tisane hardly tastes like a cup of drinking chocolate, it does now taste a bit more of naked cocoa, and the mouth feel is creamier.
Much less of a fruity taste, I’m finding, more of a mellow, almost mediative blend of gentle cocoa, tea and rooibos. Yes, “gentle” is getting used a lot here. The tweaks to Super Chocolate are not major, but they are lovely. If anything, this unique and terribly healthy tisane (I credit Super Chocolate with a major reduction in the number of colds I got this past fall and winter) is better.
Long live Super Chocolate.
PS — I also used slightly cooler water than usual. Directions say to use 98C water; I suggest cooler than that, maybe 87 out of respect for the green, but not much cooler or the rooibos won’t develop.
Dry smells like cocoa powder, sure!
once mixed – it smells like hot chocolate and croissant-like bready or caky or something.
It looks like coffee with cream in it.
The taste is pretty darned tasty! It’s creamy and fairly cocoa-E and almost coffee bean like. The aftertaste is when the ‘matcha taste’ comes in to play.
This is very different yet good! Nice one!
Also got some of this. I have a feeling the flavored matcha will be something I prefer over straight up matcha…I hope!
I did, but that seemed a bit pricey as compared to this one. If I really like it I’ll consider an upgrade.
4tsp for 3 cups water. The leaves were dark, twisted and long. When I smelled them my first thought was laying on a blanket in a park in the spring time. That’s what I smelled, fresh grass with light notes of flowers.
The liquor is light amber. I don’t get the same scent with the liquor as I did with the leaves which is a shame. There is a light scent, somewhat earthy. The flavor is light and mild. There is a little bit of a lasting flavor which I think is typical of black teas.
This tea is good. Now I will try it sweetened. The finish is smoother for me when I sweetened the tea. I like this tea.
