Things that make you go Hummmmm…
I don’t usually care for chamomile but this is a fairly nifty tea…the lemon makes it…but thank the tea gods that it isn’t obnoxious lemony like CS or other ‘cheapo’ brands I know of…lol…

Try it…you might like it!

A thick translucent golden-green appearance. It’s tannins are mild and juxtaposed with a full body. Unobtrusive, but satiating. It’s a perfect daily drinker that won’t let you wanting. True and functional.

I am still not fond of most tea bags. I have had this one in loose leaf and bags and it is excelent both ways. The apricot scent is so strong it wisks me away to my childhood running around in the country on a beautiful summer day.

2nd infusion better than the first! Less pollen-esque and more like honey or ‘mead’/wine-like

Definitely tastes like a fruity peach/mango tea rather than something traditionally savory. There is a hint of a cooked flavour to the tea aswell, almost like some of the oolongs I’ve tasted.

If you’re interested in tinkering around w/ the steeping perameters, I’ve found that steeping it using premium sencha perameters produces a more savory cuppa. Good luck:)

drank Sencha "Imari" by Lupicia
911 tasting notes

I don’t really know the differences between the types of sencha. I know of them and I’ve had ones from the different types. But I can’t look at a tea and go “Oh, because of the leaf shape and color and size in addition to the color and clarity of the liquid, I can tell this sencha is…” Yeah. Can’t do that. Pretty much all I know is that deeper steamed senchas have smaller pieces and thus clog my filter more easily and that I typically like those senchas because they are sweeter.

I do know that this is my least favorite of the three Lupicia teas I have in my pantry. However this is the one that I’ve managed to go through first. How did that happen?

There’s a tarter taste on the front end of this and the body isn’t as thick, sweet and fuzzy as I tend to like in senchas. Also, there is a tiny bit of astringency towards the end of this but not so much that it feels bitter or drying. But it’s there. And I’m kind of a wuss when it comes to things like that.

But it still smells so rich and buttery when I toss the leaves into a preheated pot and that makes me very happy. So very happy. Seriously worth it just for that.

I think I’m going to have to do some exploring of the different types of senchas this upcoming year, learn more about ID’ing sencha types. Can I make that a new year’s resolution?

Unless it clearly tells me in the title or discription of the tea, I can’t tell between the different ones either.

Ricky

Neither can I! Must learn to understand Japanese tea!

Somebody needs to teach a class on this. I would take it. You could come take it with me.

WOW! Another truly unique, fun, mysterious, and goofy-looking tea!
AND, once again, a little goes a long way! This puffs up a lot while steeping. It doesn’t really have much of an aroma tho but that’s ok because it sure does taste awesome! Oddly there is a slight polleny-type texture but not bad. It’s sweet and floral and honey-esque.

drank Matcha by Teavana
2977 tasting notes

I brewed it for the first time using 1/2 tsp matcha and about 5 oz water. (My canister says to use 1/2 tsp and 4-6 oz water for thin, 1 tsp and 4-6 oz for thick. For some reason the directions on here differ – it calls for 2-3 more ounces of water!)

I whisked it as best I could with a regular metal kitchen whisk in a wide mug that is more like a soup bowl. The water was under boiling ( I didn’t check the exact temp.) This was my first taste of amtcha – not ideal conditions I know. The taste was vegetal but not bitter, the color reminded me of spinach water though! I promptly added a cube of sugar and a splash of milk, which was nice. I just wanted comfort yesterday, not the “exotic”-ness of traditional matcha.

I will try matcha again the proper way once I get a chasen. Also I want to research the right tea to water ratio. There was sediment left in the bottom but I"m not sure if that’s due to too much tea or to not enough whisking.

The matcha I have from Den’s Tea has conflicting directions as well. Their website says 1 scoop/3oz water and the literature they gave says 2 scoops per bowl. My bowl is 16oz. As for the sediment, it’s due to 4 factors: whisking, drinking speed, how fine it’s ground, and the fact that matcha does not dissolve in water like instant tea from a jar does- it simply disperses. I love matcha! So far I’ve tried 3 different brands. I drink it every day.

Janefan

Thanks for the explanation Cofftea! I am looking forward to experimenting with matcha more, and enjoy reading your, and other members, tips and ideas for flavoring, etc. The great knowledge sharing on Steepster has already given me the confidence to try some news teas!

Cofftea

If you’re interested in flavoring, check out mine tomorrow- a Christmas special=P Or so I hope, my idea involves milk and my congestion will have to improve greatly for me to drink any. I may not even go over to my grandparents’ tomorrow… which really sucks cuz last year I didn’t go cuz mom was the one sicker than a dog.

This is really, really yummy. Blueberry and vanilla paired thru and thru with green tea! Very nice!

Ricky

Blueberry, vanilla & green tea!?!? Sounds like an amazing combination!

TeaEqualsBliss

It IS quite nice, indeed! :)

Ooooooh, I have a lovely vanilla green tea at home, adding blueberry to the mix sounds inspired!

I think it was the Christmas spirit (sorry if i am being politically incorrect :P ) that got me to buy this tea. It has a lovely mint flavor, and tastes more like a candy cane, or peppermint stick than a tea. I know it is a bit unorthodox (you can yell at me later) but i’m actually stirring this with a peppermint stick not, with just a touch of sugar, and it is great! Overall, a great tea to get you in the “Holiday” ( :P ) spirit.

Yeah… I know… I’m probably gonna regret this, but I haven’t slept in 3 nites and mom decided to do all her Christmas shopping tonite and then we need to wrap presents so I won’t be in bed til late. I needed a matcha that was sweet and smooth so I went w/ this again. Not to mention the dull color matches my mood. YUM!

Ha there was enough to make two cups!?!? =D Glad you like it!

Cofftea

Heck yeah! And I have a bunch left, I only make 1/2 a bowl at a time due to the caffeine so that’s only 1 scoop.

Some music pleasantly complements a particular activity like marching, dancing or running. Some music fades nicely into the background, setting the mood for a nice conversation.

But some music requires your whole attention. Sometimes it intrudes: the 5th movement of The Firebird nearly killed my while driving to Philadelphia. Sometimes it sulks: I was initially disappointed with Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill Live In Seattle because I didn’t hear the guitar at all. Then I stood right in front of the speakers and it made sense…

Um, about the tea, this tea is like Live In Seattle. If you’re not paying total attention it tastes like warm tap water. It will not complement any food. But if you pay very close attention, there are a whole variety of flavors just on the edge of perception. There are wisps of grass and wet leaves and there is the presence of flowers (it is jasmine tea after all).

Basically, this tea is like potpourri in foggy redwoods. So it complements the weather in Northern California at the moment. Maybe it will play nice with something after all.

I’m not sure about this. It is such a strong chamomile and the appeal of chamomile is usually its mellowness. It tastes exactly how it smells: like an herb garden. I suppose chamomile and fennel are the dominant flavors. Very spicy and it kind of burns my tongue.

EDIT: Scratch all that! I figured it out. Celery! It tastes exactly like celery.

drank Chinese Restaurant Tea by Dynasty
123 tasting notes

So this is hardly an epic, awesome tea (Dynasty teas simply aren’t ever going to appear with such words attached to them) but I just LOVE the name. Chinese Restaurant tea.

Many of the Chinese restaurants around here will serve jasmine tea or oolong tea with your meal…not wishing to take any chances, Dynasty blends a mix of oolong and jasmine with a bit of green tea tossed in for their teabags, and I would swear to you that at least half the restaurants around here (the ones on the cheaper end of the scale) use the Dynasty blend. This leaves me wondering which came first. Did the Dynasty brand base their ‘Chinese Restaurant’ flavor on what Chinese restaurants are serving, or are all these Chinese restaurants serving Dynasty’s tea because the name implies it’s exactly what they should be serving? Chicken or egg?

Anyway, I like it. This is the flavor of tea I was exposed to when I was a child. I grew up on it. It’s a good, strong tea that cuts the grease and tastes great with most kinds of food, so it makes me happy.
