New Tasting Notes
I love this herbal tea, the initial perfume coming out of the holed lid of Solstice teapot by Tea Forté ALWAYS reminds me of Crème brûlée / Crema Catalana so I am already in the right mood before starting sipping it. Then this strong vanilla perfume diminishes and even the taste reveals the other ingredients. I like to have my teas plain as much as possible, but I love to add some milk or a little bit of sugar to this one.
No need to remove the leaves from the pot, the infusion doesn’t get bitter.
Preparation
This is an extraordinary tisane. Unlike so many tisanes, it is not thin in texture or taste. It has an incredible complexity… so many unique flavors in one cup. It is sweet and nutty and vegetative. There are also berry-like notes. No bitterness at all.
Really really good. So much better than I ever imagined it to be.
I tried this in the store today… and I had been told by so many that this tea was amazing, so I think it had been built up in my head. Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve never enjoyed grapes all that much and only have the juice once in awhile…
The grape part really sings through, and I do like the taste, but it was sort of like a regular juice for me, a grape cider if you will. The white tea was hardly there at all, with no balance between the two whatsoever. Overall, enjoyable, but just ok.
Gah! the strawberry white really set the bar high for me. I have a feeling that I will forever be comparing my fruit teas to that now *sighs
Preparation
Just got this and Naivetea’s Wen Shan Bao Zhong in the mail, thanks to the SororiTEA Sisters for the heads-up (and promo code) on this deal! Today would have been even better since my David’s Tea order apparently arrived…except that for some reason they required me to sign for it, and the postal worker couldn’t be bothered to ring my doorbell or even knock on my door before leaving the “Sorry we missed you!” note and bailing. (Is it really missing me if you failed to ascertain whether I was there or not?) You’d think I lived in Mordor rather than down one dinky flight of stairs for all the laziness my location engenders in delivery people, geez.
Anyway, at least I have tonight to enjoy my new oolongs before I go pick up my DT order tomorrow and bury myself in a mountain of maple rooibos. The dry leaf of this one is very fragrant, with an intense lychee scent that made me realize my only contact with anything lychee in the past several years has been in the form of martinis. The leaves are very tightly curled and a beautiful shade of green. The directions recommended a tablespoon of leaves for six ounces of water, but I don’t have any measuring spoons so I just hazarded a teaspoon plus a bit extra.
The first steep was the strongest and best, I think, it had the full force of lychee behind it, almost completely disguising the flavor of the base oolong, which was fine with me – if you’re going to flavor your tea, then flavor your damn tea. By the fifth steep that flavor is mostly gone, leaving behind a subtle hint of oolong, like a particularly delicate white tea. The instructions said I could steep up to seven times, but by the sixth the leaves were completely unfurled and the cup had only the slightest suggestion of flavor. The steeps in between were quite pleasant though. This feels like a nice late spring or summer tea, best drank around sunset, each successive steep urging you on toward nighttime, light and sweet and warming. Mmm.
I’m so glad you were able to take advantage of that offer! It was really a good one, and I was quite tempted to also take advantage of it, if I hadn’t already exhausted my tea budget for the month!
that happened to me with my DT order to!! and I live in a house, no stairs required… they ended up reshipping it to me cuz the depot they sent it to is a 2+ hr bus ride and no way was I doing that… No way am I choosing Purolator to ship my stuff again
Yes, thank you again LiberTEAS!
Adrienne, I picked Canada Post to ship! So clearly Canadian post in general just hates us, haha. Off I go to grab mine from the Post Office (which is luckily for me only five minutes away, as I’m in Los Angeles)!
Thank you to Paul for sending me one of these cakes to try. I have actually had it for some time now, and I apologize to Paul for not trying it sooner – it wasn’t because I didn’t appreciate it, because I do! I must admit though, I was intimidated to try it. I generally get that way with most Pu-erh. But… none more than one called “Camel’s Breath”
Very brine-y, earthy aroma and that does translate into the flavor, although I am finding that the flavor is considerably more mild than the aroma – at least it is after a very short steep. It is mellow and sweet, with a very smooth character. A somewhat savory note in the distance. Almost like it beckons me to add a grain of salt or two to bring that out… A very intriguing tea to say the least.
Before I rate it and write a longer review for SororiTea Sisters, though, I will put it through a few more infusions and see what comes of it.
Thanks again Paul! Let this be a lesson (for me, if for nobody else) – don’t let the name of a tea influence you from experiencing it.
2nd infusion: Sweeter this time… a little stronger this time (less mellow) but still very smooth. Quite nice.
I enjoyed this tea, thanks for sharing it with me, Kristin. I didn’t get much pineapple in this until the aftertaste.
I liked it, but to me it tasted like a weaker Buttered Rum with pineapple, but it will make a great night-time alternative to that daytime favorite!
Preparation
This is a really REALLY good chai! Bold and full-bodied. The spices are robust and zesty! I’m trying this with and without the “latte” – and it’s really good both ways, but I like it best latte. The milk really adds a nice smoothness to the strong spice.
A really delicious, spicy chai!
Thanks TeaEqualsBliss – this is a tea that I probably would not have bought from Lupicia, not because I don’t love peach teas because I do, but because it seems like everyone’s got a peach tea, you know? But this one is amazing.
The peach essence is so authentic, that I can almost feel the fuzz of the peach! It is so very good. Probably the best peach tea I’ve ever tasted.
Really good red tea, it tastes very fruity actually. Made a cup on the go from a hot water dispenser found at the school caf. Unlike some straight black teas I think i can go on drinking this day to day. I think this is only sold in teabags, which is kind of a pity; I would go buy more if it was in loose form. The tea has a hint of natual sweetness, which also tastes slightly floral. Keemum is definetely worth trying out.
Just had another pot of it and loved it as usual, this time I got so excited by the colour: drink it in a white cup … it seems the sunset-time sun has fallen into it!
