New Tasting Notes
Brew lightly. I was served this in the Betty’s of Harrogate flagship store tearoom and they scalded the tea so it went bitter, which is a shame, because it tastes so lovely and delicate when brewed correctly. I pour a little cold water on the tea shortly before pouring on the nearly-boiling water.
It’s also fun to brew this in a glass teapot, because the little coils unwind one by one. :>
Preparation
Hmm I take back my comment about this tea not making me sleepy. Maybe it was just poor timing, but I just woke up from an hour and a half nap after finishing a cup of it. It seemed like one of those days where I wanted a special and unique type of sweet treat, and I immediately knew which tea to reach for…mmm…
…maybe I should restrain from having more today. I can’t afford to take another nap while trying to finish off my end of semester papers.
Preparation
I didn’t have an issue with the scent of the dry leaves. They just smelled kind of plain to me. I chose a low temp and low steep time to avoid cooking the cukes.
165/1.5 min. It’s not bad. Smells like cucumbers and tastes like it, too. I’m not picking up any tea taste, more like liquid cucumber, no spiciness whatsoever. Actually, I think it’s pretty neat, but it’s not what I’d look for in a tea.
Preparation
This was one of the teas I was MOST excited to try from DAVIDsTEA. Apparently, this is one of the most impressive milk oolongs out there today. I’m quite excited! It’s a gorgeous golden, faded yellow color. The scent is a bit more green, like vegetables, with a buttery finish.
Steep #1: First sip is FAR more like grass and vegetables than expected. As I keep sipping, the tea reveals that it’s a bit more astringent than expected. I’m not getting much milk or cream, only the faintest bit of butter and floral finish.
Steep #2: More yellow in color and definitely more buttery/milky. I am still tasting more of the “tea” component, than anything creamy. It is quite smooth, as well.
While this is a good cup of tea, it isn’t my favorite milk oolong I’ve tried. It’s still more vegetable than creamy, sweet milk.
Thank you very much, ladykittykat!
Preparation
This tea reminds me of a watermelon tea I had not too long ago. The chunks of fruit and flowers are HUGE. They puff up greatly in the hot water. This tea smells a bit like sweetened pink lemonade. I bet this would be great iced, but I don’t have fresh ice here at my house. The flavor is a bit tart and a bit fruity. I’m definitely tasting hibiscus and a fruit that I can’t identify. There is a little bit of a strange aftertaste, but it doesn’t bother me so much that I won’t finish the cup. I’m going to save the last of what I have for an iced tea. One cup requires an awful lot of “leaf” so this may be too expensive for me to purchase. I am very glad to have tried this! Thank you ladykittykat once again.
Preparation
Hello, my love! Where have you been all my life?
I’ve always been somewhat wary about chocolate teas, but this one is surprisingly delicious!
When first opening this package, I caught a definite chocolate banana smell (which is strange when there’s no banana in the tea). However, when steeped this tea transforms into a wonderful balance of fruit, and chocolate. First I tasted a smooth chocolate flavor, quickly followed by fresh raspberry, finally the two flavors intertwine at the end for a delicious finish. The almonds aren’t exactly a noticeable flavor in this tea; however they do add a nice depth that would otherwise be missing.
This light tea is still full of flavor, but it wont weigh down your taste buds like I’ve found a lot of chocolate teas tend to do.
Preparation
Is there any hint of banana flavor in this? I’ve been thinking of ordering this, but I absolutely hate bananas.
While I don’t mind bananas, they don’t belong in tea :) As far as I can tell, I didn’t observe any banana flavor in the actual tea, just the smell reminded me of them. _
I dare say, I believe I am the first of the male persuasion to comment on this tea…
While suppressing a smile, it is a distinct honor to share the company of so many esteemed ladies, while partaking in the mutual joy of this wonderful blend. Blackberry, the royal berry in my humble opinion with vanilla and cream. Delightful, delectable, and delicious.
Every sip takes me back to my mother’s Blackberry cobbler with creamy, vanilla ice cream on top. I am not sure I qualify for this club in terms of sense, but I am guilty of prideful prejudice when it comes to the three party marriage so perfectly joined together.
I am grateful to KiTT for the opportunity to try this, I have been wishing for so long…
Steeping this tea, I was reminded of LifeSaver’s butter rum candy. The smell, to me, is just about the same! The taste is of coconut and vanilla with a slight creamy finish. As it cools, the tea turns significantly more buttery and creamy. Absolutely amazing! I can’t seem to get the image of LifeSaver’s candies out of my head.. this is THAT candy flavor in TEA form! This tea is so sweet and delicious, I have already had 3/4 of the cup without noticing! I really wonder what milk and sugar would do to this tea. I feel like it would be beyond sweet, almost like a piece of toffee. Drinking it so quickly, my stomach catches up with me to realize just how RICH this tea is. This would be perfect for satisfying any sweet cravings!
The biggest hug to ladykittykat for sending me a sample of this. I have quite a few more samples to try and think I’ll indulge all afternoon and evening while writing three papers for class!
Preparation
Funny how my palate has grown since I’ve started tasting tea. What to me at the time was enjoyable, now seems denuded, poorly processed, and rough. Today, this tea really lacks sweetness for me, instead having a strong, dry earthen grip on the tongue. The pine smoke is there and strong, dominating the entirety of the flavor profile. A large mix of brown leaves yields a hollower, darker tea.

Preparation
Definitely something I’m going to be keeping in the cupboard!
The honey notes are very strong in this one, but not too much so. I love it straight, or with some milk. I couldn’t really taste the mate though, but that doesn’t hinder my overall opinion of it. I love this one when I’m deep in term-paper time and it’s been a great help for maintaining focus.
Was able to connect briefly with my best tea drinking buddy while on the road and she brought me a do-it-yourself kit with this blend and several packets of turbinado sugar.
Tasted it straight up, then after adding the sugar crystals, and couldn’t taste much difference.
I do like this better than most chai blends because of its naturally sweet personality…most chais to me taste like somebody randomly emptied the contents of their spice cabinets into a tin. Not getting any citrus from the Samurai Chai part of the mix; but plenty of the cinnamon and pepper from the Ayurvedic half.
As can be expected from a “tummy tea”, the two principle ingredients are peppermint and chamomile. A few other strong contenders such as fennel are also thrown in for good measure. I’m not usually the biggest peppermint supporter, but it was well balanced in this blend. There’s a medicinal bite at front, a nutty/creamy lean in the middle, and a satisfyingly floral finish. Great for sleepy tummy time.
