#ProjectTeaWall
This is another one with a simple reason for why I never got to trying it before now; I don’t like coffee so why would I need to try it? It’s actually the last Pu’erh on the tea wall that I haven’t tried though – so it was a good one to check off the list.
I actually hadn’t realized there was vanilla flavouring in this one; but drinking it on the bus this morning that was SUPER obvious. A quick check of the ingredients when I got home after work confirmed it, but yeah this had super strong, rich and well defined vanilla notes. Honestly, I don’t feel like it’s much of a stretch to say they were the strongest part of the blend! Stronger than the coffee and Pu’erh that it’s named for, in fact. It was enjoyable though, and it definitely made the tea a lot smoother because both the Pu and the coffee had slight bitter undertones to them that were softened by the added vanilla. So while it was a dominant flavour, it was a smart choice to balance the bold, brisk profiles of both those ingredients.
Other things worth note…
This is obviously really earthy because of the base; even with the silky vanilla note that isn’t changed. Fans of earthy teas/Pu’erh will like that but if you’re looking for a blend where the base tea is masked you’re not going to find it with this one. Apparently this also has added almond flavouring; but I didn’t pick up on it. One thing I also liked was the absence of chocolate; not every coffee infused blend needs chocolate in it to make it work.
Overall I likely wont revisit it because I just don’t like the coffee element of it, but at least now I’m familiar with it and I have to say it wasn’t as bad as I’d imagined it to be. I see it taking milk really well as well; so would probably work as a good latte rec for a customer.

I absolutely adore the song Honey Whiskey by this band, so I’ve been looking at their other music to see if anything else speaks to me. So far this is my second favourite thing I’ve seen by them (after Honey Whiskey, obviously). Very different vibe to it, though. Still it’s beautiful – and I definitely recommend watching the music video. It tells a beautiful, although sad, story REALLY well.
Friendly reminder that I’m currently not numerically rating DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m seasonally employed by them and therefore numerically scoring them would be a definite conflict of interest.
