15695 Tasting Notes
Another that I picked up from the grocery store because I was running out of options at home prior to flight day…
I actually think this is the best tea I’ve had from Pure Leaf to date; it tastes distinctly of pomegranate and black tea! That said, it’s still really bloody sweet. Too sweet. Plus, it’s clearly not super high quality black tea that’s used. However, iced tea in a pinch? Yeah, I think I’d be fine with this.

Lots and lots of spearmint in this last cup of tea. I’m into it though; the spearmint is sweet but still very relaxing/calming and the pairing of mixed berries and soft lavender are really aromatic and relaxing. I’d definitely purchase this tea again for myself, but I’ve had a lot of it in the last few weeks since it was one of the tins of tea I left unpacked for myself to finish off before flying out. So even though I’m sure I’ll restock this blend I think it’s going to be a little while before I actually do so.
I also might opt to restock it in tea sachets over loose tea, since I generally only drink it before bed (teabags are super convenient for that) or use it in tea baths, in which case sachets are also VERY convenient for that.

Running out of tea options at home, so I bought this and a couple other bottled iced teas last time I was at the grocery store so that I’d have a couple things that I could enjoy at home other than the three/four teas I have left unpacked…
I wasn’t sure if I’d had this before, up until I took a sip and then I immediately recognized it as familiar. More of a mint profile that strawberry or tea itself – almost a candied mint? Like those mint jelly candies in the shape of leaves. It’s fine. Not bad. Not really good either. I wish it was a little more natural tasting, but at least it’s not super sweet.
So, a while back one of my favourite Youtube channels made a “Pumpkin Spice Pizza” and I just got absolutely obsessed with the concept and became determined to recreate it with my own “twist” by incorporating tea into it somehow.
Well, about a week ago I FINALLY bought all of the things to make the whole thing. Fresh pizza dough, coconut oil, pumpkin puree in place of tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, spinach, tomato, and a mix of Italian seasonings and cinnamon. Pop that in the toasted over and let it cook for about fifteen minutes and… well, BAM! Pumpkin Spice Pizza. That’s not all of it though; I also made a Brown Sugar Spice Syrup to drizzle over top the pizza using cinnamon sticks, cinnamon powder, clove, gingerbread matcha, vanilla, and (of course) brown sugar. Super, super decadent and rich – and the perfect accompaniment to my pizza creation.

It’s true that this pizza doesn’t really know whether or not it wants to be savory or sweet but it’s still really good. The sauce completely makes it though; very rich and warming and that strong cinnamon and gingerbread taste actually goes incredibly well with both the cheese and tomato slices on the pizza.
I’d actually 100% make this again, and I highly recommend that you do too!

Another tea that I set aside to finish off before arriving to Montreal that I honestly haven’t made much of a dent in – I’m sure I’ll be bringing it onto to plane with my in my carry on luggage…
I did make a pretty killer eggnog latte yesterday afternoon with a couple scoops of it, though. An iced one, though. I used a milk frother to whisk everything together and it got so light and frothy; almost a “whipped” texture. Which was magical. Tasted like gingerbread and custard. Such a delightful profile for winter/the holidays.
It was magical.

Finished this one off last week. I wanted to brew it Gong Fu, but I realized that I didn’t have enough leaf left to do that with the size of gaiwan that I left unpacked. So, Western it was. It was still a really nice cup though; smooth and medium bodied. Great array of flavour notes: freshly churned butter, vanilla/tonka, fresh snow peas, and a bit of a nutty finish (almond??). Pleasant and tasty with a profile that I think works well for Spring time and winter.
Currently sipping on this one while I catch up on tasting notes…
It’s weird; I have nothing left to do to get ready for flying out to Montreal, so I’m basically just killing time until my flight. A lot of time. Like, lots and lots of time.
This tastes fine; I’ll be honest I’m getting a little bit sick of it just because I’ve had SO MUCH of it in the last two weeks and I’m used to having a lot more variety in what I’m drinking on a day to day basis. It’s especially sweet today, with a wickedly long lingering vanilla and rice sweetness in the back of my tongue after the swallow of the sip. Like coconut sticky rice…

Iced.
So, this actually was the last tea that I made for myself at my retail store on my last day there. I actually wanted to pick something with more personal meaning to myself, like Birthday Cake (first tea I ever had at DT) or Blueberry Jam (my favourite tea from DT) but it was Black Friday and we were busy. Very busy.
And so I never actually had the time to make an “intentional” last tea. Maybe it’s better this way, to have just finished on something more casual!? I mean, it’s not like I’m leaving the company in general – just moving to a new part of it. I’ll still be able to visit the retail locations whenever I want – in fact I’m going to be stopping at two within the next 24 hours at the various airports that I’m at. So casual might actually be better???

Iced.
One of the last teas I drank in store; I spent my last few days (aside from all the Black Friday craziness) unpacking stock in preparation for Black Friday. Unpacking stock can be an exhausting thing when you’re working on it for hours at a time – hence all the iced tea. It’s just super refreshing, and the hydrating aspect is important.
This is so flavorful; and there’s really not much simple about it. There are SO MANY different berry notes packed into each sip; blackberry, black currant, cherry, raspberry, elderberry, cranberry… It’s sweet, but also really tangy with a tartness to both start and finish of the sip. Not for people who don’t want to be smacked in the mouth with berries and hibiscus. Perfect, however, when you’re tired and parched and just want something bursting with flavour.

This is one of only three or four teas that I have left from the original 30 or so that I had set aside to finish off before moving – I had left a larger quantity for myself (like 50g) so it was probably the biggest bag that I had to finish off, but I’ve made a solid dent in that bag!
With less than 24 hours before I leave Saskatchewan, though, I’m doubting whether or not I’ll have the bag finished off in time. It’s probably going to wind up in my carry on luggage…
This particular cup was an eggnog latte because, after two weeks of trying to find Eggnog at grocery stores in town, I FINALLY found a carton of it! Not surprisingly, to me at least, this makes for a completely DELIGHTFUL eggnog latte! The cinnamon and custard-y notes in the tea are already a perfect compliment to the taste of the sweet, custardy eggnog. The rice notes are very subtle against that almost extreme creamy vanilla/custard/spice profile but they are definitely there. It also has that beautiful rum sort of note that the tea has, and of course we should all know that the best spirit to spike your eggnog with is rum – so it just works. Beautifully.

I found it and then accidentally ordered 3 liters and they all expire December 4, so eggnog lattes are a thing right now lol
Oh – random question for you but… Any recommendations for where to grocery shop in Montreal for just general stuff and not specialty items? I looked it up and it looks like I’m pretty close to an IGA Extra so that’s where I’m leaning right now? I think they also do grocery delivery, which would be a win for me. Any tips/recommendations? Or experience with grocery delivery services in MTL?
I used to shop at Provigo which is Loblaws but in Quebec. IGA is also good and there is definitely grocery delivery because I used to use it. You can either order online for a fee (though I think the fee was waived if you bought more than $80) or when you buy groceries in store, you can ask to have them delivered.
