Bought 10 grams of this along with some of David’s other straight blacks – my plan is to try out their varieties and see which flavour profiles I like best, and then order higher quality versions from Mandala or Teavivre.

As for this… Not sure how I feel about it. Its interesting. Don’t know if I’d bother to brew it up again any time soon but I wouldn’t reject a cup if offered. Definitely something that requires a certain mood and atmosphere.

Steeped in simmering water for 5 minutes. The taste is not bitter at all, but obviously very smoky. The dry smell reminded me of smoked salted herring and cigars, but I taste no fishyness in the liquor, thankfully. The actual taste reminds me of when I went camping with friends and we used pinecones as campfire starters – it tastes like smoke from pine and pine resin. Somewhat oily thick taste with a hint of sweetness under that smoke. Very full in the mouth.

Flavors: Ash, Pine

I was super looking forward to this one. But… The smell and taste was like a dill pickle with a little mint and melon in the background. So much dill. Very confused. Told my dad to sniff it and he immediately/strongly agreed. Uh. Did I just get a bad batch? At least it was just a small sample I bought. I tried it twice and just nope

Haha no it really does smell like pickles, I agree

Mmmm.

First try of this. There’s no noticeable bitterness at all. Instead, something floral, something honey, something like a good pastry. Sweet.

My first straight black! I bought 10g of this along with 10g each of their Nepal Black, Shikubo Sencha, and Gyokuro…. And I’m trying this one first! Making an attempt to get into straight teas c;

First thing I notice is that its ridiculously sweet! I kind of can’t believe it. Its like an earthy, caramel-honey flavour with a hint of earthy grass – no bitterness at all. Sort of simple flavour profile. Hot damn.

I realize DavidsTea isn’t the best, but at least now I know that Yunnan style blacks are something I should continue to try! Really delicious.

Edit: Getting a bit of this weird cocoa and coffee nib aftertaste now, hmm

Took a try of this tea at the store, and oh my goodness I had to have some, so I bought 25 grams. Its a lot like Glitter and Gold, except with a slightly sweeter, less ‘mature’ flavour? I can’t tell which I like more. Super cozy, comforting kind of tea!

Edit: Its not good anymore. I picked up another 20g and now it has a very artificial, yogurty powder taste (like those dry yogurt bits in cereal). When I first tried this tea there was no milk flavouring, and the price was higher, and it was delicious. Well, now there is flavouring, which I imagine is why the price dropped. The taste is just not the same… I don’t like it at all.

Ooooooooh my god. I picked up 15g of this to try. I’m still a newbie to tea, and while I read about the gong fu style of steeping I messed up my first try. I gave it a rinse of 15 seconds, steeped it again, tasted like meh. I gave up and just steeped it for 5 minutes straight and it tasted like grass. Oooooh, what a waste of good tea!

I gave it another shot a couple days ago and oh my god. I steeped it at a little under boiling for 2 minutes, took a sip hot, and thought it was much better than before but still not impressive. I let it cool for a couple minutes while typing up my essay, took a second sip…. and oh my god. It was like drinking cream of broccoli or spinach soup! It was so creamy in the mouth and the taste was so buttery and rich – I couldn’t believe it. I’m trying to drop some fat weight, and while I still enjoy eating bacon and eggs and other rich foods while doing so… This was such a rich treat. I felt like such a gluttonous fatty drinking this tea, as if I’d put on 10lbs with each sip. God. I need to buy a hundred grams of this stuff! Its too good!

I did a second steep of it at 4 minutes and this taste was a little less like cream of whatever soup and more like pure butter. Almost sickening. Almost. I need more of this in my life. I can’t believe its not butter.

I bought a 15g sample from DavidsTea, and, well…. This just isn’t my thing. I can taste a small hint of melon flavour in the background, but the sourness…If its even sour, I have no idea how to describe the flavour. I can totally see why some people love it but nope I’m just not into it.
