14 Tasting Notes

Continuing on catching up with my DavidsTea advent calendar.

Dry – Has a citrus and evergreen scent.

Steeped – Grapefruit and floral scent. Lovely dark rosey pink color.

Taste – A nice tartness from the grapefruit. Light hibiscus which is great as I’m not a fan of hibiscus (always seems to oversteep them and then they taste terrible). I did add a tsp of sugar to balance out the tartness after the first few sips. I think I will have to try it iced next.

It is an okay tea. Maybe as a summer iced drink.

Flavors: Grapefruit, Hibiscus, Orange Zest, Tart

Preparation

Continuing on catching up with my DavidsTea advent calendar. When I saw this I was excited, I’m a big chai fan.

Dry – Mix of black tea and various chunks of spices. Has a sweet almost bourbon smell to it.

Steeped – Dark brown liquid but for a black tea, I can still see the bottom of the cup! Has a sweet spicy smell.

Taste – Licorice and some chai spices, very little vanilla. It was surprisingly sweet. The spices lingered in the back of my throat. It was a bit bitter even though I did the minimum brewing time. After my initial tasting I added unsweetened almond milk which did cut the sweetness and bitter aftertaste. This makes a much better latte.

Too much licorice, not enough vanilla and far too sweet. Definitely not for me.

Flavors: Anise, Artificial, Bitter, Cinnamon, Clove, Licorice, Spices, Sugar, Sweet

Onward with the 24 Days of Christmas from DavidsTea. This is my first oolong, so I’m not sure what to expect.

Dry – Smells buttery/milky . Tightly rolled dark kernels

Steeped – 4 infusions. Each around 182F. 4-7 minutes (longer steeping with each infusion). Love watching the tea leaves unfurl. It smells amazing, caramel and rich.

Taste – It has this creamy milky smooth flavor that leads to a light vegetal (spinach) after taste. With each steeping the butter flavor lessens and the green plant flavor becomes more prominent. It is a beautiful golden color.

This is so good and if I can get 4 infusions every time, I think I might have to put this on the purchase list!

Flavors: Butter, Caramel, Creamy, Green, Milk, Smooth, Spinach, Vegetal

Preparation
185 °F / 85 °C 4 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Picked up a 24 Days of Christmas from DavidsTea this week. Playing some catch up as I arrived to the party a little late.

Smells very nutty, looks a bit like I’m about to steep up some trail mix!

Steeping – Smells like candied almonds. Like I just walked into the mall at during the Christmas holiday. Has a pretty opaque pink color.

Taste – Sweet, nutty exactly like cinnamon sugar roasted almonds. Then the sip finishing off was a punch of cinnamon and little apple.

Not sure if this could be a staple. I could possibly see me drinking this as a dessert, but I still have 23 more teas to go!

Flavors: Almond, Apple, Brown Sugar, Cinnamon, Nuts, Nutty, Spicy, Sweet

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 6 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 7 OZ / 207 ML
