Tea #3 from Considering a new TTB

Normally I would have skipped this tea the moment I saw that it had spearmint in it, I’m absolutely not a fan, but I’m on a mission to try any tea that uses marshmallow root. I just so happen to love marshmallow root and it’s such an underutilized ingredient in tea, I’m always excited when I see it in an ingredient list. I’m really glad I decided to try this one out, it easily made the list of 52teas blends that I would reorder. If you’ve read any of my other notes about the 52teas blend I’ve sampled then you may realize just how short that list is. I haven’t really been a fan of most of Frank’s blends, even though I love the though he puts into creating such unique teas every week. So far, most of them just haven’t been for me, but I keep searching and every so often come across one that I love.

While I can’t really taste the base of this tea, I can taste the marshmallow root, spearmint and malt. It seems like such an odd combination, but they’re balance beautifully and play together very well. I think the reason I like this so much is that it reminds me of fluffy homemade peppermint marshmallows and I’m absolutely nuts for those. As much as I enjoyed this hot, I think it would make a fabulous iced tea, so I can’t wait for the weather to warm up some so I can try that out. Then again, it would probably also make a really tasty latte…hmmm… I may have to give that a shot as soon as I go buy more milk.

This tea will not be continuing on.

Marshmallow root is by far the most awesome ingredient ever!

Short Sorceress

I agree, I just wish more people would use it in their blends.

Tea #2 from Considering a new TTB

This is one of those teas that make your house smell wonderful while it steeps. As soon as the water hit the dry leaf I was met with the strong scent of coconut. While the coconut does end up being the main flavor of the tea, the floral flavors of the oolong peak through a bit once the tea starts to cool. Overall this was a nice tea to start my day off with, but not one that I would order for myself, I thought it was a little bit sweet for my tastes.

Tea #1 from Considering a new TTB

When I pulled this from the TTB I knew this was the tea I wanted to start with, I’ve been looking for a good Earl Grey Green and just so happen to love Mao Feng. I’m impressed with this tea, it manages to have the perfect balance of bergamot and green tea for my tastes. The bergamot is strong, but not overwhelming, letting the sweet grassy notes of the green base peak through. It’s a nice change of pace from the classic earl grey blends I typically enjoy.

Bio

I am always interested in swapping so if you see anything in my cupboard that you want to try just send me a message. Please keep in mind that I order most of my teas in sample sizes and may not have a lot to swap. I’m also trying to keep my swaps limited to one a month so I don’t break the bank.

My favorite tea companies to order from are American Tea Room, Rishi, TeaVivre, and Single Origin Teas, however I am constantly lured away from my favorites by a good sale.

Ingredients I love in tea
rose, peach, oolong, osmanthus, vanilla, marshmallow root and peppermint

Ingredients I dislike in tea:
spearmint, chocolate, orange, hibiscus, sage and for the most part lemon.

I am a firm believer that sage only belongs in my thanksgiving stuffing/dressing and absolutely not in my tea.

Allergies
Cinnamon, Chocolate, Burdock Root, and Goji Berries

Teawares:
FORLIFE Curve Teapot, 24oz
Adagio ingenuiTEA, 16oz
Adagio Iced ingenuiTEA, 32oz
Zojirushi Water Pot, 4L
Libbey Country Fair drinking jars for ice tea
TeaVivre Travel Gaiwan

Rating Guidelines:

100 – 90: Pantry essential and some of my all time favorites that I can’t live without.

89 – 80: You’ll have a pretty good chance of finding this is my pantry on a regular basis, but it isn’t the end of the world if I run out.

79 – 70: I might consider restocking this at some point if the price was right.

69 – 40: Not undrinkable, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it again.

39 – 20: What in the world were they thinking? Probably still finished this just because I hate to waste anything.

19 – 0: Wow, that’s so terrible chances are pretty good I dumped it out and gave away the rest.

My current top five favorite teas:

China Black – Rishi Tea
Earl Grey Cream – Zen Tea
Lemoncello – American Tea Room
Nonpareil Anxi Qing Xiang TieGuanYin Oolong – TeaVivre
White Tea Rose Mélange – Rishi Tea
