37 Tasting Notes

Since the smell so distinctively reminded me of blueberries, I was really excited to give this blend a try. Blueberries are one of my favourite fruits to be featured in a tea blend. However, after sipping, I found that the tart and sweet flavour notes didn’t mix very well in this blend. They came together in a way that was almost bitter as I felt the ingredients were battling out for who would be the strongest. The best way that I can think of describing the flavour of Southbrook Berry Blend is perfumey. Other than the hibiscus, there aren’t any ingredients that should bring out floral notes, and I wouldn’t say the flavour is floral, it’s just sweet and perfumey. This wasn’t an awful cup of tea, but definitely not a cup I look forward to trying again. I found that the sweet, perfumey taste was extremely overwhelming.

I thought that my turn off may have been due to steeping such a sugary-fruity tea as a hot cup- so the same day, I steeped an iced cup for my boyfriend and gave it a try myself. Unfortunately, the taste was nearly identical- with the different flavours being overwhelmingly perfumey and my boyfriend felt the same. It’s been a while since I’ve had tea with flavours that battle each other rather than blend.

Overall, Exotic Berries Oolong by Citizen Tea is a solid cup of tea. If fruit flavour is what you’re after, I highly recommend going for a hot cup rather than an iced cup to maximize the flavour profile. This is a great cup to try if you’re a fellow Oolong lover, constantly searching for that vegetale, earthy taste. It’s also a great cup if you’re trying to diversify your tea palette, or looking for a tea that is flavourful but not flavourful to the point of over powering the tea plant.

After the delicious scent, I was quite confident that Creamy Nut Oolong would taste just as good. I’ve had an up and down relationship with nutty teas in the past there have been many that I have enjoyed, but also many that are not even close to my cup of tea. After tasting this tea, I must say that the ingredients blend smoothly. The overall flavour is sweet, and nutty in the perfect amount. The flavour isn’t overwhelming and doesn’t mask the delicious oolong leaves, rather it matches perfectly, making sip after sip a delicious guilt-free dessert that oolong and nut lovers can enjoy.

The flavour of the dark roasted Hojicha is everything I had hoped it would be. It’s earthy and grassy but the smoky roasted flavour is a larger note. To me, this flavour profile is extremely cozy and soothing. It’s extremely rich and strong.

The taste I find falls a little flat for what my expectations were given the name. This tea was all peaches/black tea and no cream. Examining the ingredients, this isn’t exactly shocking to me. By adding cream into the name I expected a hint of vanilla or something to bring out a creamy element, rather than a classic cup of fruity black tea. That being said, I do not think this is a bad tea, it’s great as a fruity caffeinated drink to enjoy, just given the name, I expected it to stand out against competitors like David’s tea, citizen tea, and Starbucks. Peach is a flavour that every brand does so I was hoping to see a brand take on peaches and cream rather than plain peaches.

The health benefits and smell, are not the only great things about this tea. The flavour of Dandelion Detox makes this tea an amazing post-meal cup. The cranberry and cinnamon compliment each other well, allowing for the bitter taste dandelion often produces to be very well masked. If you were looking into this tea for flavour alone, I would say that Dandelion detox fits in very well with your other cozy fall faves!
