2170 Tasting Notes

This came to me in the TTB 2019/2020 box. I didn’t have a full cup then, but my brother did so I was able to try a sip. I loved it so much that I immediately went online and bought myself a bag. I was a little worried I would like it as much as I remembered, but I really really do. It’s like the perfect gingersnap. Chewy and sweet with the perfect amount of ginger.

I had a cup of this earlier and was so pleasantly surprised! I had tried this once before, when it first came in, and didn’t like it at all. It was too strong (my fault for using too much tea) and gave me an awful headache with its strong aroma. The bergamot caught my eye today so I thought, why not? I’m glad I gave it another chance. Really delicious.

I’m feeling off today – headache, unsettled stomach. Could be nerves, I don’t know. We have some storms coming through tomorrow, which always puts me on edge here in Dixie Alley. So I’m having a nice mint tea to hopefully settle things down a bit. This tisane was part of an herbal CSA I joined last month through the Rowan + Sage Patreon. The blend consists of violet flowers, cleaver greens, stinging nettle, spearmint, and lemon balm, though I’m really only tasting the mint right now. I’m good with that. Not wanting anything complicated today.

Stay safe! We have the same front coming here tomorrow night. Supposed to be a doozie.

I had to look what do you mean with “Dixie Alley”, but then I completely understood your feelings.

Yesterday was a productive day, but today I just woke up and I am over-thinking everything. I need to settle my nerves a bit as well.

gmathis

From Tornado Alley in SW Missouri, I totally understand the unsettlement! Great peace be with you today.

Shae

mrmopar, be safe tonight! It definitely does look like a doozie. Hopefully it will calm down a bit before it gets to your area. It’s just coming into Alabama now.

Martin, I hope you’re feeling better! I can sympathize with you on the overthinking. Especially lately with all that’s been going on, it’s so easy to feel overwhelmed. Do you have tornadoes where you are? Trying to find a new location without so many natural disasters, lol. :)

gmathis, oh goodness I know you understand!! I hope you’re staying safe today without any weather craziness.

Shae: then Czech Republic is wonderful place to live in. Unless you want to be interested in politics – that is just sooooo baaaad here. So, almost no tornados (very, but really very rare here – one per year, if even), no floods, but few last years were really dry. Where are spring showers? They aren’t anymore. Sometimes some wildfires, but nothing like California or Australia.

I have to say, it’s quite nice place to live in. Unless some other things. And we have great beers! Haha.

And yes, in the afternoon something broke and I was able to finish my semester thesis. Now I just need to do a slideshow and this wil be over. I will have to do something else too, unfortunately. I am somehow overwhelmed with stuff to do.

I’m not feeling like the best version of myself today – frustrated, irritable – so I thought a decent breakfast and a favorite tea might put me back on the right track.

Made a cup using this recipe from oh, how civilized. A luscious cup with the extra cream. I did add more brown sugar than she recommends. I love my tea sweet. :)

One of my very favorites and I’m getting dangerously low. I probably won’t be ordering anytime soon for various reasons. Mostly because I have so many teas I need to drink already.

Profile

Bio

Lifetime student. Lover of books and paper and ink. Kitchen dweller. Aspiring herbalist, excessively proud cat lady, and tea fanatic. Thirty-something elder millennial. She/her.

I love flavored black teas most of all, always with cream and honey. I enjoy floral and fruity teas, as well as flavored or scented ones. I’m not overly fond of green or white teas, but I’ve found a few that I enjoy.

I’m open to tea swaps and/or just sharing what’s in my tea cabinet! Please reach out if you see something I have that you’d like to try. I do my best to update my cupboard regularly.

Favorites
Any and all black teas, smoky teas, raspberry, strawberry, red fruits, bergamot, chai spices, floral teas, caramel/toffee, jasmine, rose, vanilla, peaches, plums, valerian root, cinnamon, cardamom

Not a huge fan
White teas, green teas, artificial sweeteners, sarsaparilla, licorice, lemongrass, lavender, hot hibiscus, hibiscus in black tea blends

Rating Scale

1-20: By far, one of the worst teas I’ve tasted. I most certainly will not finish my cup and will likely “gift” the rest to my sweet husband, James, who almost always enjoys the teas I dislike (and vice versa).

21-49: This tea is not good, but if I mix it with another tea or find another steeping method I might be able to finish it.

50-69: This one is just okay. I might drink it again if someone were to give it to me, but I probably won’t be buying more for myself.

70-79: This is a consistently good tea. It’s reliable but not necessarily special.

80-90: This one is a notch above the rest and I would gladly enjoy a cup of it any day of the week. I’ll likely be keeping this in my cupboard, but it isn’t one of my all-time favorites.

91-95: One small change and this tea would be perfect. I’ll definitely have a stash of this in my kitchen if you come over for tea.

96-100: No words can describe this tea. It’s an experience, an aha moment. Closed eyes, wide smile, encompassing warmth. Absolutely incredible. Perfect.
