This reminds me of David’s Three Wishes and Buddha’s Blend, but less flowery, which was nice. The fruitiness has a chance to come through, and the white/green base holds up well. It’s slightly astringent, but not bad. I’m sure this would work well iced, it has a classic summer vibe.

Drank this two more times since receiving it, and now I’m bumping up my rating because it’s really growing on me. The flavor notes really didn’t go together the first time I tried it, but now that’s not a problem? The oolong base is playing nicely with the lemon and the ginger. I’m not sure what happened because I don’t think I’m steeping it any differently. Perhaps the ingredients just needed to mix a little more or something? There’s a note on the bag says that you’re supposed to shake it up, but it was so full the first time nothing was really budging. Still no cookie notes, but it is a harmonious cup.

I do get a bit of biscotti, but mostly this tastes like almond extract. It’s well-balanced with the rest of the tea, so it’s not bad, but it’s not exciting either. The Almond Pistachio Cookie tea is definitely superior to this one, but they both have the same underwhelming base.

Reviewing my Capital Teas order as a whole, I would say it’s been mildly good. Nothing was bad, but nothing was amazing. The real bone I would pick with them is price. Their quality is (at best) on par with Harney and Sons, but they are twice as expensive as H&S. What’s up with that? I got this order on sale, so I don’t feel cheated, but I really don’t see myself paying full price for this tea.

drank Black Currant by Harney & Sons

This has become a pleasant morning staple. Once I started adding a little extra tea, I could really taste the currants. It tastes slightly candy-ish, but not in a bad way. Easy to see why this is so popular.

Not sure how the tea came by this name, because as others have noted, it mostly tastes like cherry. It’s almost an earthy kind of cherry. This one strikes a very nice balance with the base, and I can see why it’s one of Capital Teas most popular offerings.

As far as I can tell, this doesn’t have strawberries in it, but it’s called Strawberry Lane and it actually tastes like strawberry. Or rather, things that are said to be strawberry, like strawberry candy and strawberry soda. It doesn’t have an artificial vibe though, it’s just a strange mix of fruits that somehow combine to impersonate a completely different fruit. The other main note is coconut. It reminds me a lot of David’s Strawberry Colada, but this is the better version, because Capital Teas wisely leaves out the hibiscus. It is slightly on the weak side — I’ll probably try using 2 tsps next time — but overall a nice cup.

Capital Teas was having a fantastic sale, so I decided to take the plunge and try a few. They have some very chic packaging, so that was a fun surprise when I opened the box.

I really adore Lupicia’s Cookie tea, but it was sort of hard on my stomach (it’s meant to be drunk with milk, but I hate milk) so I’ve been looking around for a substitute. The good news is this definitely smells and tastes like cookies. But while Lupicia’s was punchy strong, this is quite mild, especially the base. It’s really too mild to get excited about, but it’s still overall a pleasant tea. If I could find a tea that landed smack dab between this tea and Lupicia’s, I would be a happy camper.

I loved the idea of this one, but for me it turned out a bit weird. The oolong base is rich, creamy, and floral, which sounds great, but somehow it tastes at odds with the lemon and ginger. I think ginger needs an earthier or maybe just a milder base. Not getting any cookie hints here, which is too bad because a buttery cookie note might actually tie this all together.

I don’t tend to buy rooibos or honeybush teas, but 52teas kindly included this as a sample. Does it make any sense to say that while this tea is not my style, I still think they did a really good job? The dry tea smells divine. It’s like a waft of buttery spice cookies. When I first started sipping this cup, spice cookie was the predominant flavor too, but now that it’s cooling I can really taste the mango and blueberry. Vaguely, this tea reminds me of David’s Coco Chai Rooibos, because they both have a light spice note and a bit of nuttiness to the base, but this one is obviously more fruity. While I personally prefer a black tea base, I can see how something light like honeybush makes sense with delicate fruit flavors like blueberry and mango.

drank Rainbow Sherbet by 52teas
672 tasting notes

So excited to try my very first box from 52teas! I’ve been hearing about Rainbow Sherbet for awhile, but it never seemed to be in stock, so I was psyched when I found out it was the March reblend.

Astonishingly, this actually tastes like rainbow sherbet. It’s got the creaminess, it’s got the sweet-tart blast of raspberry, lime, and orange. I’m so used to teas tasting only vaguely like the thing they’re named after, I can’t quite get my head around how accurate this flavor match is. I wish this could be permanently in stock, because it’s just so good.
