Bio

Tea Dealers was first established in 2005 with an aim to introduce premium teas to America by offering only rare, single origin teas from Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and India and pairing them with contemporary artisanal ceramics from around the world.

Stefen Ramirez first started in the tea business at the NYC flagship of one of Japan’s largest tea companies as a tea specialist and buyer in 2003. Two years later, Tea Dealers began exclusively as a private client business that curated luxury tea collections for high profile individuals. Stefen has also been studying traditional Japanese tea ceremony since 2007 and in 2010, was awarded a cultural scholarship to study tea at the four-hundred-year-old Urasenke tea school in Kyoto, Japan.

In April 2015, Tea Dealers started selling online and also opened its first retail store, Atelier TD. Atelier TD is located inside of the Japanese restaurant, 1OR8 (www.oneoreightbk.com) in the south side of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. and offers weekly tea tastings on Tuesday and Sunday afternoons that are free, informal, and informative. There is no reservation needed and you are welcome to walk in anytime. Our seasonal tea selection is available to enjoy at the 1OR8 bar or in the dinning room and sushi counter with an exquisite Omakase served by Kazuo Yoshida.

We approach tea in an almost scientific way by stripping it down into a simple process and demonstrate brewing systems that can be used to enjoy tea on a daily basis at home or in the office. We combine our professional knowledge of tasting with New Yorkers’ lifestyles and serve it in a wabi sabi ceramic cup made by a fourteenth generation potter. This is the true meaning of “The Way of Tea.”

The Tea Dealers’ Atelier is run and owned by Stefen Ramirez. Tea Dealers was first established in 2005 as a private company that curated tea and ceramic collections for private customers. After returning from a two year tea sabbatical in 2012, we changed our focus to introduce our amazing selections to the world and opened Atelier TD.

We source all our teas directly and scour the world for the highest quality teas available. We visit and collect exceptional, every day ceramics for tea, sake, and flower arrangements. Each piece is one of a kind and hand picked for its functionality and aesthetic.
