I had to support this company, as I received samples of a couple of Java Tea’s blends from another Steepsterer years ago and the flavor amazingly held up. So I had to spring on the 50% off sale. I definitely don’t use more than a teaspoon and a half for these, even though Java Tea suggests something crazy (six teaspoons!?!) This is supposed to taste like a vanilla latte. I’d say I’m not spotting much vanilla in the blend itself OR tasting much in the flavor. The mug certainly turns a deep scarlet though. I hadn’t tasted this blend previously (that was The Diplomat and The Liberator) so I can’t judge the new blend from the old as this blend is new to me entirely. The flavor has a bit of roastiness that is probably the barley. I’m also tasting the chicory root, which isn’t a favorite tea ingredient for me. I don’t think I noticed the chicory root in the other older blends as much. These are definitely unique blends that no one else carries, but I really wanted this one to be VANILLA and I’m not getting that. Even if the other blends get a boost from large amounts of caramel or chocolate flavoring, I wouldn’t mind a large amount of vanilla flavoring here, as long as it is a good flavor.
Steep #1 // 1 1/2 teaspoons for a mug // 12 minutes after boiling // 2 1/2 steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 4 min steep

Waves to Nicole I was wondering if you’ve been on Steepster lately… I must have been drinking one of the delicious teas you sent me ages ago. I guess I’m good at remembering who sent me which teas even if they are just Steepster “faces”. haha. Hope you are doing okay!

My icon photo is Richard Mayhew from the graphic novel ‘Neverwhere’ by Neil Gaiman, Mike Carey & Glenn Fabry.

Most of the teas listed in my cupboard are actually sample sizes. I don’t really have 2,000 ounces of tea around here! Many of my teas have only one teaspoon left… maybe two. But I like keeping them in my cupboard list for reference to what I could be sipping. Usually, I write tasting notes once for each tea. I’m still drinking them, just not writing tasting notes each time!

I’m always in search of: Hattialli, Qu Hao black, Jin Jun Mei, teas using marshmallow root.

My dislikes: hibiscus, ginger (unless in chai), turmeric, bee pollen, charcoal type flavors

My ratings:
95-100 – Super awesome deliciousness favorites – cupboard essential
80-95 – Also pretty delicious
65-80 – Pretty good
50-65 – Okay
1-50 – Probably won’t want to sip it again

I’m planning on being a Steepsterer as long as there IS a Steepster, so if you’re not hearing from me, that means something happened to my health… if you know what I mean. (Or as evidenced by the great computer hiatus of 2019, something happened to my computer… I have a dumb phone so can’t access internet on that. As of 12/20/21 my wifi might start getting unreliable.)

Happy sipping!
