This might be the last pu-erh I have from Michelle to write a fresh note for?  Thanks very much, Michelle.  As a pu-erh addict, I appreciate it.   I had quite the huge piece in the infuser, but the flavor on this one is a bit lacking.  It just seems watered down… with nothing really special about it. I certainly used enough of the leaf, so that can’t be the problem. Sure, the first steep the cake was slow to unravel, which is understandable if the flavor is also slow.  But on the second steep, I did not hesitate to really steep it a while and it seemed like the resulting flavor was almost the same as the first cup.  Watered down.  Then it seems to have a harsh note when it’s cold, which is very rare for a ripe pu-erh.  There is nothing wrong with this pu-erh… but I have had some spectacular pu-erh lately…  This note isn’t very inspiring, but neither is this pu-erh. I’m just not really finding any of the pu-erh flavor notes that I love to drink pu-erh for. Luckily, most of the other pu-erh samples from Michelle have been FANTASTIC.

Most of the teas listed in my cupboard are actually sample sizes. I don’t really have 2,000 ounces of tea around here! Many of my teas have only one teaspoon left… maybe two. But I like keeping them in my cupboard list for reference to what I could be sipping. Usually, I write tasting notes once for each tea. I’m still drinking them, just not writing tasting notes each time!

I’m always in search of: Hattialli, Qu Hao black, Jin Jun Mei, teas using marshmallow root.

My dislikes: hibiscus, ginger (unless in chai), turmeric, bee pollen, charcoal type flavors

My ratings:
95-100 – Super awesome deliciousness favorites – cupboard essential
80-95 – Also pretty delicious
65-80 – Pretty good
50-65 – Okay
1-50 – Probably won’t want to sip it again

My profile photo is from the graphic novel ‘Neverwhere’ by Neil Gaiman, Mike Carey, and Glenn Fabry. I have been using this profile well before sad allegations against the creator, so will continue to use it for now.

I’m planning on being a Steepsterer as long as there IS a Steepster, so if you’re not hearing from me, that means something happened to my health… if you know what I mean. (Or as evidenced by the great computer hiatus of 2019, something happened to my computer… I have a dumb phone so can’t access internet on that. As of 12/20/21 my wifi might start getting unreliable.)

Happy sipping!
