Sipdown!

I only bought the small packet of this matcha, but when I place another 3 Leaf Tea order (you know, that mythical time when my cupboard is smaller) I would be happy to get the large packet. If I remember correctly, this is one I also sent to Superanna and she liked it very much.

I only used it in smoothies. I don’t really do flavored matcha traditional whisked style but I use it for iced matcha, lattes, or smoothies like this. It adds such a blast of coconut flavor. This would be awesome with a pineapple smoothie in summer but alas, I never thought of it then. Maybe next year.

Thanks for sharing this one Cameron!

I was happily making this up and thinking to myself “Look at you go, coincidentally making this into a matcha Monday!”…only to then realise it’s Thursday! We booked the last three days off to extend our time off, so it does feel like a Monday.

I whisked 1 tsp of this into a small amount of 160° F water, then topped up my mug with cold soy milk. It’s lovely and creamy with no bitterness, though I don’t get a lot of coconut flavour coming through in the taste. I did get a lovely coconut scent in the dry matcha though. However, this could be because I used my favourite mug, which holds ~13 oz. of liquid. Perhaps next time, I’ll go for 1.5 tsp of matcha.

That’s so interesting, I found this one to be crazy strong on the flavoring!

DrowningMySorrows

Haha! I’ve been trying to do Matcha Mondays to use up a bunch of older matcha in my collection and I think I’ve only managed to hit Monday maybe twice. I seem to have an “oh yeah, I was gonna drink matcha!” moment around Wednesday or Thursday. At least it still tastes good even if Matcha Thursday isn’t quite as catchy.

Courtney

Very true! I so rarely reach for matcha, but today it was so tasty! Maybe matcha Thursday is the real winner. :)

Hmm, I think the purpose of matcha mondays is to remind you that you have matcha and to drink matcha sometime soon. #rebelchild

Geek Steep S2E12: Astro Boy

I really wanted to drink something with a Japanese connection during our recording since that’s not something I did with my pairing – and matcha was the obvious choice. On the day of recording I just really wasn’t in the mood for a straight matcha though. What I did want was coconut. So, I doubled down on the coconut and made this matcha as an iced latte using coconut milk – and then finished with a bit of carrot honey for the perfect kiss of sweetness.

Probably goes without saying, but this tasted a lot like coconut. Super buttery and silky creamy coconut perfection!

We went on a long honey tangent this episode, so you can definitely check out the full conversation by listening on any of the major podcast streaming platforms. I’m obviously hella biased, but I just think this was a really fun episode and it was very cool getting to explore something in the anime world with this historical and cultural gravitas and importance to it.

New flavored matcha! Yay!

I prepared this one straight and hot this morning, with a teaspoon of matcha for 8 ounces of warm water.

For me, the coconut flavor is too strong for this preparation. The matcha is fine, quite grassy with just a touch of bitterness. But the coconut flavor is like WHAM in your face! It’s a very creamy and rich coconut, and it lingers on my tongue for what seems like forever.

I added a glug of oat milk to the second half of the bowl, and like it much more. Can’t wait to try this one as a hot or cold latte! Which, to be fair, is how I would normally prepare a flavored matcha – I just wanted to try all of these plain first.

I like the way you measure … glugs. I know exactly how much that is: one blop more than a blurp!

Cameron B.

Glug is a highly technical term! XD

gmathis

My grandma (born 1892, I believe) used “mess” a lot, as in “a mess of spinach.”

Gmathis: Yep! My mother made a mess of field peas. Or ate a mess of black eyed peas.

Rich, creamy, coconut matcha with almond milk. Is there a better way to start your morning off? Sipdown #28!

It always sounds good when you throw in coconut and almond. Then I remember that it’s still matcha and I’ve only ever had one I liked and it had tons of sugar and spices as well as milk. :)

Can’t wait to get home amd make this with some almond milk. Just mixing it with water in a cup I can tell it’s good but doesn’t quite do it justice.

Thank you so much for the sample thelastdodo!

I actually drank this one yesterday for breakfast. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of unsweetened cold matcha lattes for breakfast with flavored matcha. I’m convinced that coconut is the BEST possible flavor to add to matcha. It has been so long since I’ve tried Red Leaf Tea’s coconut matcha that I couldn’t tell you for sure which one I prefer. I should have saved this one to do a side by side comparison since I have some of Red Leaf Tea’s on order right now and should be here soon! Oh well…I still enjoyed this one very much :)

I had this hot this morning! I added a pump of coconut syrup to my latte and ohhh yeaaahhhh. that hit the spot. I used some of my homemade almond milk to much success. (on a side note, I have finally splurged on an actual nut milk bag! I have been using and reusing the same sheet of cheesecloth for a month. Making nut milk twice a week with a holey piece of cheesecloth is not ideal. Now that I have this new fangled thingie and I love it!! Instead of a half and hour it take me ten minutes to make almond milk! woohoo! /end rant)
The base match 3 Leaf Tea uses is excellent. I have had my fair share of bad matcha in my day, and I can just tell that by looking at this lush, blue-green powder that this will be a very good experience. The base by itself is very nice, it is vegetal and fresh. It’s really got that umami thing down. If I am not careful, I do get some clumping, but it is an easy fix. The taste is smooth, no graininess, and although the flavor is light, it is a creamy hint at the end of each sip that just feels so right. I really enjoyed the flavor, the texture, and the latte I made was gone before I knew it. Looks like I will have to make some more almond milk soon!

I’ve been so curious about their matcha.

TheLastDodo

The flavors are nicely spot on, but a little on the soft side. I like how you can customize Red Leaf Tea’s flavors, but the quality of this matcha is great!

If you want to set up a swap after your round in the matcha TTB, I can send you some stuff you haven’t tried from them! I have quite a few LOL

Nichole/CuppaGeek

That would be awesome! Thank ya kindly!

Yum, coconut fan checking in! This flavored matcha is really tasty – very creamy sweet coconut that satisfies all my creamy cravings (I love creamy food and desserts, omg). The coconut flavor is light, but tasty and works well with the matcha.

I’m excited 3 Leaf does samples, I am tempted to try a couple more flavors! (Their hot chocolate is amazing btw)
