Some things are just meant to go together. A slice of ooey-gooey caramel cheesecake and an amazing black tea is one of those things, and now, you don’t have to go to a nice restaurant and pay an arm and a leg to enjoy it, AND you can enjoy it guilt-free, even if you’re vegan! Here’s our new premium black tea blend, fused with natural and organic cheesecake and caramel flavors and blended with bright marigold petals. If you can’t fall in love with this tea, you should just stick to coffee.

Our Tea of the Week for the week of August 27, 2012

2017 Reblend: This is a reblend from Frank’s era – from late summer/early fall in 2012. This tea! This! I want to start by saying that this delicious tea does well with the usual recommended ‘wait & cool’ time that I usually recommend with all my teas. The flavors do come off as a bit ‘less than expected’ when I took my first sip (right after I poured the freshly brewed tea, before I allowed it to cool for the 10 minutes I usually recommend) but after those 10 minutes – Oh! My! This is so good. A pleasantly smooth black tea base with sweet notes of cheesecake and caramel. What’s not to love?

Now, I didn’t stick to the original recipe precisely, mostly because my base is quite different. Frank used a blend of Assam, Darjeeling & ‘Chinese’ Black Teas. My blend is Assam, Ceylon & Yunnan. So we may or may not be ‘similar’ on up to 2 of the three teas in the blend – since Frank was not specific about which type of Chinese black tea he used (or even if it was a blend of more than one type of Chinese black tea.)

But that’s neither here nor there. I selected my base based on taste – I like the rich, malty flavor of the Assam but I feel that it can be rather overwhelming sometimes (and can go a bit bitter on you if you’re not paying attention to it), I also like the robust, earthy flavor of a high quality golden Yunnan. I like the way these two teas play together. I choose Ceylon as a playmate for the other two teas because Ceylon is a smooth, remarkably mild tea that can temper the other teas a little and help create a pleasingly round flavor. And that’s what you get with this base – a smooth, coppery cup that is pleasing in flavor and nicely round. Not overly aggressive. And it works well with this combination of flavors. Rich, buttery caramel flavors mingling with a tangy cream cheese note – so delightful!

Ingredients: Organic black teas, organic calendula petals & natural flavors

To brew: Don’t overleaf this one. If you want to go latte, you should use a little more leaf to avoid diluting the tea, but otherwise, go with a slightly rounded teaspoon of tea to 12 ounces of near boiling water. I haven’t used boiling water in my tea for a while now, I find that when it’s brought to the boiling point, even with a black tea, the tea tends to become rather astringent and by simply dropping the temperature to 205°F – just 7° cooler – the tea is far smoother and more pleasing. So by not overleafing this tea and keeping the steep temperature slightly lower than a boil – you’ll get a much more satisfying cuppa.

Let it steep for 2 1/2 minutes, strain and allow to cool for 10 minutes. The cool time – as I say in the above description – is essential to allow those flavors to develop and believe me when I say – you want those flavors to develop!

Mmmmm pizza and…caramel cheese cake tea? Sure! Why not! Been having a lot of fun revisiting and playing with tea today, though I didn’t manage to get it all logged. Tying to keep today to a nice relaxing schedule since tomorrow is running around day starting with feinting at 7am. Wheeeeee!

Too bad shipping is so slow to Canada, this took quite awhile to get here :(
But it’s here now!

Yummy, what a wonderful weekend treat. Smooth caramel with light tangy cheesecake. And of course, the smooth black base really shines through.

At this low steep time of 2.5minutes, I didn’t find any astringency.

I look forward to this as a weekend treat, maybe as a latte!

I should have bought two bags. This is so yummy.

Ya, I am thinking the same thing! Maybe Frank will re-blend it

Happy International Rabbit Day! Here’s the bunny of our house! https://twitter.com/awkwardsoul/status/381851208962437120/photo/1
being fed a treat, as he’s pretty cranky looking today. Something about kale not being on sale, so I didn’t buy any for him. Or maybe today is the day bunnies gather to plot against the humans.

Anyways, having this tea for breakfast while I check on the scheming bunny. Nice and burnt caramel taste today with a tangy sweetness. Yum! For some reason, I’m getting more cravings for black tea.

Wow cool – I’m the first to review this one. I don’t think I get a wizzo button for that or anything but its still kinda cool. :)
This is definitely not lacking in the caramel flavor department and as I have said before Frank knows how to make the cheesecake blends outstanding so it was a no brainer to order this when I saw it go on sale!
Creamy cheesecake goodness with plenty of yummy caramel in a nice black base that stands out as well.
Way to go Frank! Keep the delicious creations coming!
I will say that as this cools it becomes a little bitter but I was not planning on it cooling – you know things happen – distractions take over and before you know it your nice hot yummy dessert tea is getting an attitude because you neglected it.
It happens.
I don’t know if I would want this iced or cold brewed as it is so delicious hot but I am sure that it would be good – I think it was just accidentally allowing it to cool at room temp that caused the bitterness.
I have had two cups today hot and it was perfection!
Every cheesecake blend I have had from 52 Teas has been amazing!
I hope he brings back Cherry Cheesecake Genmaicha!!
Anyway if you love caramel and you love cheesecake GET SOME! As of right now there are only 5 left on his site!

tigress_al

Just ordered this! Sounds awesome

Azzrian

Its quite decadent!

Kittenna

Blah, this is one I want. I will hope that when I have time to swap again, someone will still have some left.

Azzrian

I can send some your way if you want … pm me your address again though as I would have to dig around to find it and Im that lazy. :)

Sil

I’ve got an order of this coming as well Kittena :) the other half let me have it cause i told him it would sell out fast fast fast! (not that it has but whatever)

Frolic

This sounds wonderful. Mine can’t get here soon enough

Kittenna

Azzrian – thanks, but I think I’ll hold off on the offer for now! I’ll try to nab some of Sil’s when we meet up again, but if not, I’ll take my chances that some swap partner in the future has some left :) So much tea…

Azzrian

Cool cool :)

Sil

I’m always willing to take tea off eceryone’s hands. I have a long weekend with which i’m predicting that I can get through almost all of the crazy samples that i’ve received from Azz, Kittena and indigo lol not to mention the stuff i ordered.

Sil

oh Azz was going to ask how you’ve been steeping this. I’m hoping mine will come SOOOOOOON and want to start out right.

Azzrian

Uhhh I don’t know if I would say I did it “right” lol BUT I did it at 208 as that is what my zojirushi was set at. for 3 minutes. :)

Sil

it’s probably my only complaint in so far as franks teas go (though i’m sure someone will tell me that i’ve just missed something) but I wish that the entries for his teas had a recommended steeping time and temperature. I’m relatively new to his teas but unless someone on steepster has indicated what they did, i’ve got to just try any guess…

Azzrian

As far as I know Frank does not have recommendations on his teas anywhere or his site so I start with traditional brewing temps and times and adjust as needed from there.

Sil

Azzrian – good to know i’m not just missing it somewhere. Maybe I can message him to harass him into including his reocmmendations when he adds teas to steepster. It appears at one point (looking at older entries) he had times on his packaging

So I went to make tea to make myself less upset (bad assignment, let’s just leave it at I have seen a concentration camp so analyzing what nazis wrote does not strike a positive chord with me, I don’t care what the lesson in rhetoric and ETHICS for gods sake is), and just making the tea made me feel better. This smells like caramel while it steeps, so good.

It smells a lot like Pancake Breakfast, but it tastes like caramel! And it’s pretty creamy, not really cheesecake, but that’s okay. Because caramel.

I’m too upset still to say anything else but this is yummy. It’s so good that being mad someone would ever assign a reading like this doesn’t ruin it.

KittyKat88

Sounds delicious! I really want to get the tea of the week, the pumpkin caramel cheesecake! Sooo tempted…but I just made an order there last week! Lol!

momo

I can’t wait to get that one, I’m so glad I got a subscription again because the past 3 weeks I have wanted the tea of the week!

Terri HarpLady

I put in an order a few weeks ago to 53teas: that apricot upside down cake convinced me!! Also ordered the gooey buttercake, the coconut cream pie & the malted chocomate. I’m still waiting for the order to come…ho hum…I just did the math, it’s only been 8 days since I ordered that stuff, so I guess I’ll quit complaining…

KittyKat88

I got the gooey buttercake and the cocunut cream too…mine hasn’t arrived yet either, anxiously awaiting! Lucky, Amanda, for the subscription! Do you save money with that, or does it just guarantee you the tea every week? Also, I just checked and there was only one pumpkin caramel cheesecake left, so GASP I couldn’t resist and bought the last one.

momo

Yes. I have the 3 month monthly subscription, which is about $30 a month, so if you find yourself wanting everything, it pays off!

Bonnie

I understand Amanda…but the trouble is that there are still people who admire those evil words and use them. Even some heads of state who have used those words recently and if we don’t know them we get duped. The trouble with so many people today is that they are willing to let other people tell them what to think and believe without looking into history or the evidence themselves. It is always worth the effort. Ignorance is not bliss in the end.

No need to adjust your monitor… yes, this is me, writing a tasting note at 8:30 am. My daughter left for school about 45 minutes ago, and usually by now I’m already back in bed and sleeping.

But today, my husband is taking me out to breakfast before he has to go to work… so I am actually awake AND drinking tea while waiting for him to take his shower and ready himself.

This tea is really good. Smooth, caramel-y goodness, and the cream cheese notes seems to come through toward the end of the sip. If I slurp, I notice the buttery pastry notes and it really all comes together for me as caramel cheesecake. Quite yummy!

I don’t know that this is one that I would normally fix for myself as the first cup of the day, as I find the base to be a little less invigorating than I want for my first cup, but … I’ve been wanting to try this for a while, and I’m glad I did. Even though I probably could use a stronger kick right now… hopefully the caffeine will start hitting me soon.

I am soooo not a morning person. Who ever came up with this morning business ought to be fired, and then shot.

CupofTree

Fired, shot, and then blown up!

Ellyn

But some of us LIKE mornings and are night night owls….although I have realized that anytime of day is doable with enough caffeine and some motivation (er procrastination….)

Azzrian

LOL LiberTEAS!!!

TeaBrat

I hate mornings too!

Claire

I agree LiberTEAS! Two of my morning classes were cancelled this week and it’s been bliss, sweet bliss…

Plunkybug

Mmmm, sounds blissful!

mrmopar

oohhh this is a good tea!!!

Sipdown! Thanks to kittylovestea for this sample!

Initially when I was brewing up this tea, I thought it smelled almost exactly like Caramel Pumpkin Cheesecake, minus, obviously, the pumpkin. However, the flavour isn’t quite the same. For starters, I think I’m tasting cheesecake, as a tangy creaminess, which I usually can’t pick out in 52teas blends. The caramel isn’t super strong, but it’s present, and fairly tasty. I steeped this one very conservatively, as I only had enough for one cup and didn’t want to ruin it, so it’s perfectly smooth as well, yet I can definitely still taste the black base.

Overall, a pretty tasty tea! Wouldn’t have minded having a packet of this one, although it’s perfectly ok that I don’t, as I have way too much tea already, haha. I think I also liked the pumpkin version a bit better, just for the greater amount of flavouring.

This has been my tea for the past few weeks. In the mornings and afternoons, I crave this tea. It smells very sweet and very much like a caramel tea. To be honest, this is more like a caramel black tea with a drop of cheesecake creaminess hiding away in the background. I’ve found that I have to be careful when steeping 52Teas black tea blends. Under 3 minutes seems to keep it from getting too bitter. This is definitely a great choice for a caramel tea, but I miss the cheesecake flavor!

I think this is one of my favorite from 52Teas so far. It’s definitely a close favorite — not quite as good as the Pancake Breakfast blend. Still, I probably should have purchased two pouches of this as I’m just about out!

Kittenna

I usually steep 52teas blacks for no longer than 3 minutes too, to prevent bitterness (whereas flavoured blacks from DavidsTea usually need at least 4 to fully develop flavour).

Very delicious. Good on a rainy day like the one I’m having now. However, wished the cheesecake component was a little stronger. The caramel however is very rich. I think this one is best catagorized as a comforting cozy tea. Yummy!

Man! This is good! My last few 52teas have underwhelmed me a bit, but this is super good. A very nutty caramel flavor. I hope this gets reblended, I blew my sample from Alphakitty in one big pot not expecting to like it much. Now I’m sad it’s gone already!

UPDATE I’m really loving this. If anybody has any they wouldn’t mind parting with, I’d gladly swap something for it. My cupboard isn’t too up to date so PM me if you’re interested and I’ll send you a list. I have a lot of good stuff!
