From 52teas

Sweet African honeybush appears to be MADE for tropical flavors. Combine it with dried pineapple, unsweetened coconut flakes and a touch of rum flavor, and you’ve got a tea so soothing, relaxing and pleasing to the senses, that, like I wrote on the label, you ought to be required to sip it from a hammock on the beach.

This tea won 3rd place in the Flavored Herbal Teas category at the 2010 North American Tea Championships! **

Sipdown! Had my final cup of this hot last night, and I’m finishing off the last of my second cold-brewed pitcher this morning. This wasn’t my favourite tea at first, but now I’ve found a way I like to drink it I think I’ll be missing it after all.

On a different note, I wish Steepster’s cupboard problems would resolve themselves — it’s getting kind of annoying! Apparently I have logged everything in my cupboard once, which just isn’t true…

Known bug…it’s correct if you look at the other section which shows how many times you’ve drank a tea…

I can’t believe I am all out of this one! This was a really good summery herbal blend. I made this hot last night and had another batch in the fridge cold-brewing til this morning. Delicious! I love herbals because I don’t need to use sugar in them. This herbal has slices of coconut in it, which I love. Good tea overall. I gulped it down :)

Ze_Teamaker

I say we see if we can get Frank to blend up some more….

canadianadia

I’m trying to save the rest of my pouch for the summertime, but your tealog is making me want some now ….mmmm

ChariTea

Yes please Frank blend some more of this. This is the best! I just took a sip of the iced one, and I have to say this tastes EXCELLENT cold.

Summer is almost over :( I am almost done my tin of tropicalia and I wanted to compare it to 52teas Pina Colada Honeybush before I decide which one to stock up on. So here it goes:

Tropicalia
Colour: yellow
Smell: sweet, tropical
Price/50g: $6.75
Taste like a pina colada? Not really
Artifical flavour: Yes
Prominent flavour: Pineapple
Rating: 94

Pina Colada Honeybush
Colour: orange
Smell: pina colada
Price/50g: $8.99 +shipping
Taste like a pina colada? pretty close
Artifical flavour: Not that I know of
Prominent flavour: Coconut
Rating: 97

These teas are similar and I really like them both but I would have to say Pina Colada Honeybush wins. Even though it is a little more expensive, I like the sweetness that the honeybush brings out. It tastes more natural. And I like that it is more coconutty!

Has anyone else done a comparison on these 2 teas? What are your opinions?

Will Work For Tea

I like that you did this comparison as I have both of these in my cupboard too. Have yet to try the Pina Colada (for some reason) – it’s been waiting very patiently!

momo

I’m going to have to try it, I wasn’t impressed with this one when I first had a cup but I got 2 oz of it in my grab bag.

tigress_al

I love pina coladas, and especially coconut teas, but you definitely have to like coconut to like this one. I find it is the best cold brewed. Give it a try ladies!

I’ve had this tea once before, but I don’t think I logged it. So I will this time! I love that the Bestseller sampler has so many caffeine free options, I need more non caffeinated teas haha. Anyways, dry, this smells nice and coconutty, definitely tropical. I went with a long steep time as that seems to be what the majority of people on here do with this one, it was about 9 and a half mins. The brewed aroma is coconut and pineapple, sending me back to Mexico with my coconut sunscreen and double pina coladas :D woot!

As for the flavor, this is pretty good, I get the pina colada feel, although it is lighter than I thought it would be. The pineapple is surprisingly prominent, it’s not a pure coconut tea for sure, nothing like some of the DavidsTea coconut teas anyways. The honeybush is still in there too, which is nice. The only thing I’m a bit iffy about is that I get a bit of that sunscreen flavor..it’s a of the texture I guess, it feels a bit oily but the tea itself isn’t at all. Just the sensation. But it’s light enough that I still am enjoying this cup, and it’s putting me in a tropical state of mind. As I continue to listen to Christmas carols nonetheless lol..I bet this would be good with a bit of milk, sweetner, and maybe a touch of rum. Will have to try that at some point!

I changed my picture (no one really uses pictures of themselves on Steepster, so I decided to do the same). However on one browser it shows up as the photo of me and on the other it’s the hamster in a teacup. What is it showing up for everyone else?

Okay, now onto the tea..
This was a sample from momo way back when that I decided to cook up tonight.

When I first brewed this hot I barely tasted anything. I wasn’t sure if this was a bad batch or the tea was just too cold. But now, as it cools, I definitely taste more of the flavor with the pineapple and coconut.. This is definitely a tea to drink cold or cold brew.

This tea isn’t wow-ing me, it’s just okay. I’m leaving off a rating, though, since it might be an older tea and the flavors might not be as spot on as they were when this tea was first released.

Ze_Teamaker

I use google Chrome. On the feed it is the photo, but when I go to your page it is the hamster…… oh technology.

Miss Starfish

I’m using firefox, and it’s the same (old picture) on both the feed and your profile.

Babble

I’m loving this consistency. LOL.

Ze_Teamaker

Ok. Now the photo on the feed is the Hamster.

Angrboda

I’m seeing your old one.

Miss Starfish

Checked back because I wanted to see this hamster… Yay! Hamster is now present on both.

Lady 0f Spaydes

I use a picture of myself! Its a photo I took before seeing Emilie Autumn and it seemed totally appropriate.

Babble

I know. You are one of the few. I guess Steepsters don’t like putting pictures of themselves.

Lady 0f Spaydes

Well I am admittedly pretty vain, I don’t think most people are. :P

Yay 100th Tasting Note and I thought I would continue with the tropical theme. This is the second time I am having this and both hot. I swear I will do this cold once. This time when I grabbed my heaping teaspoon I got the biggest chunk of pineapple, boy was I excited. Even the 2nd time around this is delicious although I do get more pineapple in it this time around for obvious reason. I really do enjoy this cuppa.

::happy dance::

I cold brewed this puppy and finally tasted the fruits of my Frank’s labor tonight. Thus the dance of happiness.

I smiled when I was scooping the tea into my pitcher since I think that from any other company I would’ve freaked out at the sight of a ginourmous hunk-o-something amongst the chippies. But since it’s a 52teas blend I figured that it had to be pineapple (it was).

It’s been years since I’ve had a pina colada, but most of me says that this tea captures a non-alcoholic version. But then I start second-guessing myself. I think the solution is that I need to find a real pina colada in the near future to compare it to ;)

What I can say for sure is that this is one of the best honeybush blends that I’ve had so far. It’s also one of the best iced teas that I’ve had so far. TG

I’ll do the happy dance with you. I enjoyed the last of this tea iced tonight also! It is SO good iced!

Cheers!

Oh I need to make a pitcher of this…it’s been too long since I had it (hot or iced).

I just spent $150 that I REALLY don’t have to enter this tea into the North American Tea Championships. I could only (not) afford to enter one tea. I hope I picked the right one and that my partner doesn’t kill me for doing it. (I would have stewed about it all year if I hadn’t done it.)

JacquelineM

That sounds very exciting! I’m rooting for ya!

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

Good luck and I hope it was worth the risk. Sometimes You just have to risk it to move on to greater things. I will say I do enjoy this blend. :-)

-Jessica-

Good luck!

Caitlin

Good luck!

Rabs

Great choice of tea! :)

Ewa

Good luck!

susanlouise

hopefully you feel it paid off. it was a factor in my ordering it and I will definitely order more! DELISH

Lisbet

If you have never entered the cinnamon raisin toast, you so need to enter that at some point. It is exquisitely unique :)

Southern Boy Teas

Unfortunately, the judges at the NATC did not agree about the Buttered Cinnamon Raisin Toast (we entered it a few months ago). They did, however award us 3rd place for the Pina Colada Honeybush last year. We might just have to enter another honeybush blend this year. Maybe Coconut Cheesecake.

Lisbet

Wow! It’s one of the most unique and interesting teas I’ve ever had. Well, no accounting for taste on that count. Congrats on the other prize though!

I have no idea WHY I rated this one so low…I originally rated it an 80…and YES…that’s LOW for this one in my honest opinion…so I am UPPING it significantly!

I really do enjoy this one and now it’s gone! That’s right!!! SIPDOWN #3 for today!

This is remarkably smooth. There is a good amount of pineapple/cherry-type flavors in it…much like a tropical fruit salad. I’m not usually overly fond of Pina Colada flavored things…I don’t hate them but I usually don’t love them either – there is certainly something special about this one! Sweet and fruity but smooth and tropical…and honestly, one of my fave flavored honeybushes to date!

YUUUUUUUM

I just iced this and added a spoonful of sweetened condensed milk.
Honestly I was a little afraid the milk flavour would take over the pina colada and it was scary, but I went for it.

Oh. My . Gosh. Youguys.
It tastes like a Pina Colada Honeybush CHEESECAKE. I get the coconut and the pineapple and the rum and : mmm it’s so refreshing and so delicious. This was the iced tea I went for when there was no hibiscus to be found.

Next step would be to blend it into a Smoothie. Sadly I don’t have a blender, but it would be the perfect amount of sweetness and creamyness with the crushed ice. mm.

Kittenna

I should try this…. Felt like the tea needed more; perhaps more = sweetened condensed milk!

Daisy Chubb

haha who knows! I had to try it thai style with a few iced teas, and this one worked too well.
