Sweet African honeybush appears to be MADE for tropical flavors. Combine it with dried pineapple, unsweetened coconut flakes and a touch of rum flavor, and you’ve got a tea so soothing, relaxing and pleasing to the senses, that, like I wrote on the label, you ought to be required to sip it from a hammock on the beach.

This tea won 3rd place in the Flavored Herbal Teas category at the 2010 North American Tea Championships! **

Pina Colada is one of those things many products try and taste like but so few come close. This tea does a better job of it than most, carefully balancing the coconut and pineapple so that neither dominate. I think the honeybush actually gets in the way here, adding a bit too much of it’s own vaguely peppery taste to the mix, I’d love to try this with green rooibos instead. Despite that however this is the best pina colada tea I’ve come across, another great pick from MissB!

Glad to see that I like this Honeybush better than the last one I had. I was slightly worried that I may not like any of that type but this one is awesome! Really enjoying the coconut and rum flavors. I’m not really getting the pineapple but that’s ok. I might just keep this one from the Caffeine Free TTB. We’ll have to wait and see.

It has been a really long time since I had a Pina Colada. In fact, it’s entirely possible I never actually had one….

So I can’t really rate this against its purported flavor. I suspect if I were to do so I’d give it a lower rating because, well, just the barest suggestion of rum, and I know enough to know that Pina Colada has rum in it.

However, the other two flavors, pineapple and coconut are wonderfully done. In a way it’s surprising, because in the packet I mostly smelled sort of sour wood. But after steeping, that goes completely away and the slight woodiness from the honeybush is barely noticeable. The pineapple and coconut are very well balanced, with neither flavor overpowering the other, and I don’t get an artificial note from either of them even though both flavors are very easy to go toward artificial with.

I wasn’t expecting to like this as much as I did, which always makes for a nice surprise.

light flavor, but i hear that has to do with drinking it warm? maybe i’ll try it next time cold for more flavor.
