From 52teas

Sweet African honeybush appears to be MADE for tropical flavors. Combine it with dried pineapple, unsweetened coconut flakes and a touch of rum flavor, and you’ve got a tea so soothing, relaxing and pleasing to the senses, that, like I wrote on the label, you ought to be required to sip it from a hammock on the beach.

This tea won 3rd place in the Flavored Herbal Teas category at the 2010 North American Tea Championships! **

This tea is pretty amazing. It taste just like a pina colada. Since I usually only drink a pina colada when I am sitting by a pool, I wasn’t sure how I’d like it. I do like it though. It’s coconutty and then there is a sweetness from the pineapple. Not sure I am getting any rum flavoring.

The dry leaves are beautiful too. There are pretty shreds of coconut and giant pieces of dried pineapple.

The funny thing about this tea is that while I didn’t like the pineapple upside down cake tea, I really like this one and wish the cake tea had had this much pineapple flavor.

I’m definitely going to have to try this one iced. I wonder if it will be too much or if I will really feel like I am drinking a pina colada.

On a “rum flavoring” note, I had a killer rum (N/A) latte in Seattle last month. Sometimes recreating the flavor of an alcohol as well as the bite from the alcohol itself can be really hard, but they nailed it. So maybe hunt down a rum syrup? I think this would be amazing in slushie/granita form.

Kristin

Maybe I’ll just add rum :) I’ve got a nice bottle of Black Seal for making Dark and Stormys.

Cofftea

Well yeah of course! I was just saying there can be amazing N/A rum flavored things out there:)

I got to try some of this thanks to DaisyChubb. It is fantastic! There are copious amounts of pineapple and coconut in the mix. I have to admit, the dry smell reminded me of vomit. But I pushed forward and was rewarded with a delicious fruity and creamy drink. Yummy! I love the smooth coconut flavor. Half way through my cup, I added sugar and evaporated milk. Wow! I felt so guilty having a creamy sweet dessert for breakfast. But wait! It’s just a cup of tea. whew! Next time, I have to get some coconut milk and add that instead of regular milk.

Afterwards, I tried to eat the pineapple bits. Not bad! :)

I liked it too – I thought it might be a good iced tea as well

Daisy Chubb

haha I’m glad the dry smell didn’t push you away!
I bet it is because of the packaging – other smells being near the bag, you know? They’re not the best bags to keep tea in x_x
Anyways, I totally eat the pineapple too, so this makes me happy haha :D

Mercuryhime

You’re probably right. :)

Mercuryhime

I’m glad that it’s not supposed to smell like vomit. haha. I actually wanted to eat the pineapple before I even brewed the tea, but I didn’t want to lessen the pineapple flavor so I told myself I could eat it afterwards. :)

Dec. 14 Tea
This is my first time trying any African Honeybush tea. I am pleasantly surprised. The honeybush is very small so I used one of the bags sent with the teas. This tea has bits of pineapple and coconut and smells of pina colada and rum. The taste is what really surprises you, it does taste like a pina colada with a touch of rum. I am more of a black tea drinker and while this is a tisane I would not drink every day, I really liked this.

This blend is made of plenty of honeybush with large chunks of pineapple and coconut shavings mixed in. It’s really something to see and the aroma is so close to an actual pina colada I can’t stress how wet my palate was while waiting for the ensemble to brew the suggested 10 minutes.

The liquor brews an interestingly dark amber-brown. The aroma foretells the sweetness in the flavor. However the pineapple is subdued a bit with the coconut taking the forefront in the steeped aroma.

Once this tea is in the mouth it’s unbelievably smooth. For a tea without milk, this is a bit surprising. I enjoyed the play of the coconut on the palate with the pineapple tartness lightly teasing the edges of the mouth.

I recommend this tisane to everyone. It’s really something which needs to be tried, and at only roughly $8 (including shipping) you can’t go wrong!

I don’t know if you got our news or not, but this tea won third place in the Flavored Herbal Teas category of the North American Tea Championship last month.

I did! Congratulations are in order by the way!

I added a note to this teas’ description yesterday about the third place win and a note is included in my forthcoming review to be posted next week on my blog.

Tea from last evening. Onto the shopping list this one goes! So happy that it is permanent. And many thanks to Jenn for the sample. :D

The brew is sweet, and the first flavor to stand out is the pinapple. I also catch the coconut, and something kind of rumish. Truly a satisfying dessert like experience. YUM!

24 oz teapot, 4 tsp honeybush blend, freshly boiled water, 7 minutes. Lightly Sweetened.

Holy toledoes Frank does this smell good! I can smell the rum, the pinapple and the coconut and when you look in the bag you see huge chunks of pinapple and slices of cocnut. It is so beautiful. I feel as if I am on a island watching the waves lapping against the shore!

I wanted to drink this iced so a doubled the amount and brewed it up. It is a pretty light golden color, reminds me of ginger ale.

First sip, yes, yes, yes this is soooo good! It is smooth and kind of creamy you can taste the rum flavor and the coconut and at the end a nice hint and tang of the pinapple. This is so good! You have to try this.

On another note Frank if you are reading this, I love your packaging and pictures the one thing though that I really like is when you have the instructions on the package! This one doesn’t and I noticed some others that don’t so I have to then look on another package… it’s just sort of an inconvience, but I wouldn’t change anything else!

It is a perfect spring day: 70 degrees and sunny. The kids are playing water games with friends outside. I am sitting outside feeling the delicious breeze and sipping on a yummy iced cup of this tea. I haven’t had it hot yet, but it is delicious iced. I can really taste the pineapple and coconut. There’s a creaminess there that may come from the honeybush. Yummy!

This tea is delicious, as so many others have noted.

So far, while I really like 52teas, the three teas I’ve tried from them haven’t been as flavorful as I expected. Each time I opened a bag, the incredible aroma set big expectations for me, but the flavor of the liquor wasn’t as strong as I hoped (and had read about here on Steepster). This tea, however, broke that trend!

It was full of juicy, mouth-watering pineapple. I’ll have to see if I notice the coconut and slight rum that the description says…

However, I bet those flavors were present, too. I was just too busy enjoying this cup of tea to think about it!
