From 52teas

I had soooo much fun last week with the malted genmaicha, and after hearing several people ask why we didn’t make it a chocolate malt, I decided we should do a chocolate malt tea this week. Here it is, our Malted ChocoMaté!

This is roasted yerba mate with organic cacao nibs and all natural chocolate and malt flavors. It is one delicious energy kick!

Still going through my swap with Stephanie. I spotted this last night and set it out so I would have it for breakfast this morning and that I did. After I let is steep and cool a little bit I sipped it and could instantly pick out the malt flavor. I thought why not add some sweetener and milk. It created the creaminess if a chocolate malt shake. Even though I could nit quite find the chocolate in it, I will not give up. It might be that i could not find cacao nibs in my sample. I will have to try again. And Stephanie… you are a gem for always going through my shopping list and adding from that what you have :) thank you!

Thank you LiberTeas for this tea in my lovely HoppiTea package!

This tea can be summed up in two words: Simply Outstanding.

When I first opened the box, this was the tea I could smell. I’ve thought about it off and on, but haven’t been able to get around to tasting it until now. The dry scent is impossible to miss… pure chocolate malt.

It brews up to an earthy, golden brown. Very pretty. And the aroma is enchanting! I feel like I’m about to sip hot chocolate. The taste is heaven. It tastes like a chocolate malt in my mouth, or like chocolate chips straight from the bag. The warm cocoa is lovely. I haven’t had a better dessert tea for breakfast in, well, forever. Truly decadent.

I haven’t had much luck with the 52teas lately so I was a little nervous about trying this. Luckily, it was an improvement over the last couple I’ve tried. Still not mind blowing by any means, but I can see making this every once awhile. There’s a banana flavor in there that bothers me a bit, so I think next time I’ll throw in some Cacao nibs from tisano to make it a little richer, which could mask it. This tea also required some milk and honey. Overall, it’s pretty decent. I won’t reorder, but I’ll go through my bag.

Thank you Rachel for the sample of this!! I’m such a big mate fan and was really excited to try this, it’s the first out of the awesome swap with Rachel!

I think I should have used more tea, but even with the little I used, it tastes like hot chocolate to me. I have a really bad cold so I can’t quite smell it and my taste buds are most likely a little skewed. I can clearly taste the roasted mate, which I love, and the chocolate is a milk chocolate flavor, but not so overpowering that I can’t tell it’s a mate.

I’ll have to brew a stronger cup when I’m not sick to rate it fairly, but I like it so far!!

Thanks to Dylan for a sample.

Man this is delicious. I can’t believe just a few months ago I was hatin’ on mate, just because it has high caffeine content. I’ve been trying different flavored mate blends and found that they really work well. At some point I’ll have to try mate just by itself again to really get the flavor, but for now, I approve. I had a super stressful day yesterday, and I made two cups of this. I didn’t get to really enjoy it as my mind was focused elsewhere, but from the little bit that I do remember, it was a good time.

Does anyone know the final word on caffeine content in mate? A lady at the tea shop told me one cup was equal to 4 cups of coffee. That sounds a little .. high.

Well I have tried mate before and was never really liking the aftertaste… to me it tastes like coffee bleh!

When I opened this pouch I could smell the chocolate and to me it smelled like milk chocolate. It also had a tanginess smell… maybe the malty flavoring. I brewed it for about 5 min. It was a great dark amber color beautiful to look at. I smelled it again and the chocolate was just a hint and it had more of the tanginess and maybe a hint of something green. I tasted it and to me it still tasted like coffee but with a hint of chocolate. It was very smooth and didn’t have the bitterness of coffee.

I tried to add a splash of milk in it and a bit of sugar and it tasted better but still to much coffee flavor for me. I drank the cup but I think that I might friend this to a family member or friend. It was better than the other mates that I have tried that I have tried though!

I would love to try this one if you are wanting to split it up. I added things to the swap thread in bigger amounts, or I’d be willing to send samples of anything if you are game.

SimplyJenW

I probably should have asked if I could be your friend, first! Sheesh!

Fairyfli

Of course you can be my friend… Yea I will definitely send you some for sure and I will check out your list in the swaps list!

I teach an early morning fitness class at a local gym and have recently gotten in the habit of making a cup of tea in my travel mug as I stumble out the door at ye olde early hour. This has been especially helpful lately because of both a.) the caffeine, and b.) my travel mug working as a hand warmer as I trudge over to work on the progressively chillier winter mornings.

This seemed like a good time to try the malted chocomate from my 52 teas order. I previously have only tried one mate, so I am not an expert by any means, but the previous one I tried (from another company) was… eh, not so good. I prepared this mate as a tea latte with soy milk and I believe a tiny splash of torani vanilla syrup (hey, it was still very early, so I don’t totally remember, ok? Lol.)

This to me tastes like chocolate and bananas and the soymilk added just enough creamy delicious taste to make it a satisfying morning drink. I don’t get any malt flavoring at all, unless that is what I am picking up as being banana flavoring. It certainly wasn’t bad… just different from what I expected. I noticed that other people noticed the banana-y taste too, so I do wonder. I think that this certainly woke me up. It was really interesting – I felt more awake, but not jittery at all like I tend to get with coffee. I will have to try this again to see if the same thing happens or if I was just imagining it from reading about mate!

Ok…so there is room for 2 chocolate malted teas in my life! I picked this one up on the going out of business day at ZoomDweebies. (No, 52 teas is not going out of business, just the shop so that Frank can concentrate on his online business, DO NOT PANIC! ;) ) It is every bit as yummy as the chocolate malt honeybush! In my opinion, it’s actually more complex and I think I can taste the chocolate more. The chocolate actually tastes richer and darker in this tea, yet still somewhat subtle (if that makes any sense!). And I do love that mate! I love the way that the smokiness accompanies the cacao nibs! Definitely a treat with my pancakes this morning. :)

Got this one for hubby to try because he loves dark chocolate malt balls. So I am making this with some dark chocolate milk for him since he is tired but starting work now. He taught a computer class to seniors this morning so he had to get up earlier than usual.

He’s yawning…..

YUM!!!!! I LOVE this tea!

This is a strange one; I usually try a tea two times before I review it because I think you get a better idea of what the average taste is. Well this one I decided to taste a third time before reviewing; the first time I drank this I hated it. I thought it was bitter and didn’t like it. But when I drank it again a week later, I couldn’t get enough of it and thought it was the best tea ever! So, my third try confirms the second, its delicious! Maybe I didn’t brew it correctly the first time?

This tea is perfectly chocolaty, and the malt makes me think of a chocolate bar. Adding a little soy milk takes this tea to the next level, so I recomend that. I WILL be buying this tea again; I’m waiting for a 52 teas blend that I cant live without to pop up; either that or some graveyard mist, caramel oolong, or sunshine tea(the one with the cat on the picture) to pop up on the revived list. :) (hint hint, lol)
