From 52teas

I had soooo much fun last week with the malted genmaicha, and after hearing several people ask why we didn’t make it a chocolate malt, I decided we should do a chocolate malt tea this week. Here it is, our Malted ChocoMaté!

This is roasted yerba mate with organic cacao nibs and all natural chocolate and malt flavors. It is one delicious energy kick!

I’m adding this tasting note long after I actually tasted this. Actually, I traded it away already. I also don’t remember how I steeped this; I’m sure I followed the directions on the label, if there were any.

This tea just wasn’t for me. It was OK, I didn’t want to spit it out or anything, but for some reason I already have like 4 or 5 different mate’s with chocolate in them and this one doesn’t come close to being as good as any one of those. Sorry! It went to a new home and I’m sure it will be appreciated.

Backlogging.

Got a sample of this and I wish I had more. As soon as I opened the sample I could smell chocolate – really, really strong chocolate. However, the steeped tea is pleasantly bittersweet and the chocolate isn’t over the top. The yerba mate compliments this well and I’m really glad I got to try this.

So this is a serious fave now. So much, that I’m being naughty and am trying to recreate it at home. I don’t think I’ll ever match frank, but I’m coming close.

His rocks though. This energy boosting, choco- satisfying, coffee-busting mate is a real winner. You’ll love that I originally thought I was buying the honey bush for a night time drink, though. This serendipitous mistake totally has turned my morning beverage at work around!

This was a first for me – I’d never had maté before! In this blend, I’m still not really sure what mate tastes like, but it doesn’t seem bad. I am sort of afraid of the caffeine content, though! I can tolerate a couple cups of black tea spread over the day, but I never drink coffee so I’m not used to large amounts of caffeine at one time. Anyone know how much caffeine maté generally has? Anyway, I only made half a cup and mostly tasted the chocolate. Not too bad, but nothing special.

LiberTEAS

I would say that the caffeine in Mate is higher than in black tea… although I am not sure of the exact amounts in either. I will say that as someone who used to drink coffee but could not tolerate the effects, I find that Mate is not as harsh as coffee is.

This is a very interesting blend of yerba mate and chocolate and it works very well. It does have a kick which tea doesn’t have for me. This is not something I would drink every day but its great once in a while. I really liked it.

Oh wow this is good. I wish there was enough for another cup :-( This was like a hot chocolate milk shake. For some reason that sounds disgusting but it was so delicious! Add this to the teas on my wish list. So good!

I know someone who wasn’t nearly as crazy about it as you are. Your mailing address the same as when we swapped earlier this year?

I’m not going to rate this one yet, because I really don’t understand it. I’m still trying to figure this out. Right out of the bag it smells delicious, dark and all things yummy. But once I brewed it…all I could taste was roasted water, for a lack of any other way to describe it.

This is my first go at any sort of yerba mate, and I know it’s a bit different. Deffinately going to have to play with this one, see if I can get it right. With so many good reviews, I must be doing something wrong.

Made another cup of this. For some reason, this time around I was able to detect stronger notes of chocolate. Added some half and half to it, which really brought out the chocolate, but dulled the malty flavour a bit. I’m going to increase the rating on this.

This tastes like bitter cocoa beans…with arugula and kale. :/
I’m discovering that I don’t really like the taste of mate, nowadays. And the cocoa and malt don’t seem to redeem it that much, sadly.

The mate makes the chocolate taste like carob. blech, I hate carob ;/
