Tea of the Week for June 14, 2021!

Inspired by the Cherry Lime Rickey from Sonic. I don’t go to Sonic often because I’m not particularly fond of the food, but the Cherry Lime Rickey rocks! So a tea that satisfied my love for the combination of cherry & lime was definitely in order.

I start with fresh green rooibos which offer a light, refreshing base for these flavors. Then I add lemongrass, limes & cherries & a hint of essence to create a magical effervescent-ish taste. YUMMY!

It’s organic, VEGAN, gluten-free, allergen-free & all natural!

organic ingredients: green rooibos, lemongrass, limes, cherries & natural flavors

to brew: shake the pouch before you measure to redistribute the ingredients. use 4g of leaf to 12oz of very hot water (190°F) & steep for 8 – 10 minutes. Longer if you like! This blend won’t get bitter from a longer steep. I steeped my first taste test of this tea for 9 minutes & for the second taste test, I steeped it for 12 minutes. I preferred the 12 minute steep – but both were delicious.

I put off trying this tea since I’m not a big fan of lime flavoring. I get a soda-like feeling from the tea, and the lime is almost too harsh, but I can take it. I watered it down a bit, which helps, and I also may go with a shorter steep next time. It’s refreshing cold, but the lime is so strong I can’t taste the cherry, which is a bummer. The green rooibos is lovely, like always.

There’s a lot of cherry pieces in the dry leaf of this tea, but the taste is very much driven by the lime flavouring and lemongrass. It’s the same type of bright and sweet lemon lime that I associate with Sprite, but not as syrupy. I like it, but I just wish there was more cherry in taste.

My third entry for this month’s scavenger hunt – this time: a cherry tea. This is actually a sipdown – the last I have of this blend I crafted last summer. It was inspired by one of my favorite soda shop drinks. Actually, the small town I lived in during my teen years had an Arctic Circle and they made Lime Slushie/Lime Rickey kind of drinks. I’m not sure if they had Cherry Lime Rickeys or not, I know that Sonic has them though and on the very rare occasions that we go to Sonic, I usually get a Cherry Lime Rickey – and we usually only go to Sonic when I want a cherry lime rickey because we really don’t care for the food at Sonic, we just like the drinks.

Anyway, I cold brewed this overnight, and it tastes amazing. It tastes so much like my favorite Sonic drink, but it’s a little lighter because no cherry syrup in it. It’s super refreshing, tart and sweet. It kinda makes me sad that the pitcher I cold-brewed overnight is gonna be the last I have of this tea.

Woah, Arctic Circle?! That is a chain from my neck of the woods (Utah/Idaho… fry sauce land :-)

In my teen years, I lived in a small town in Nevada and there was an Arctic Circle there. I’m not sure if it’s still there because it’s been almost 30 years since I’ve been back there. I loved the lime rickeys there. I don’t remember much about their food – or the fry sauce because there was also a Dairy Queen in town and it was closer to the high school – so that’s where I got my fry fix – and they made a good fry sauce there.

Looks like they have expanded their franchises out into Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming (I honestly didn’t think there were that many!) It’s definitely a go-to here in Southern Idaho… I don’t do fast food often, but when I do get a hankering it is usually for an Artic Circle Ranch Burger with fries and fry sauce. (I also love the pumpkin pie shakes during the fall!)

I know that there is one (or there was one) in Oregon (Newport) because we took a weekend vacation out to the coast and I noticed it and we had to eat there for my own nostalgia’s sake.

June 2021 Tea

Sipdown :)

Pretty good cherry-lime rooibos blend with a convincing seltzer “fizz” which lingers. I don’t always love rooibos, but the green stuff is neat and I love lime and soda/cocktail-inspired tea blends. A pretty fun blend overall!

Not a big fan of rooibos in general, but it was actually fine here. I don’t know what a “rickey” is, but this tasted mostly limey, and I couldn’t really pick out any cherry. Bonus that the rooibos didn’t taste like cherry cough syrup, like it sometimes does! Pleasant enough, not a favourite.
