From A Quarter to Tea

Tea of the Month for December 2016

We’re taking December to dreams of warmer weather all the way to Puerto Rico with our Coquito tea!

Coquito is a spiced coconut drink, that could almost be called coconut eggnog!

Our tea version is sweet and coconut-y, with cinnamon, clove, a touch of ginger with just a hint of tropical fruit lingering in the background.

Base – Bai mu Dan
Region – Fujian, China
Flavor & Characteristics – vanilla, eggnog, cream, spice, clove, coconut
How to Steep – 4-5 minutes at 180F
Ingredients: white peony tea, ceylon cinnamon, raw chipped coconut, ginger root, lemon grass, freeze-dried pineapple, cloves, cardamom, red peppercorn, natural flavors

Oh wow, this smells so good. So tropical! Hopefully this is still good with the coconut. It still smells amazing so I’m hopeful. Definitely smelling the tropical coconut in the dry blend. It even smells creamy, if that’s a thing. Under the coconut is the promised spice blend. The ginger is definitely there. The taste is good but not very flavorful. Could be the age on this one. It could also be the fact that it’s a white tea and I can never extract enough flavor from those. It’s disappointing given how incredible it smells.

Sample from Crowkettle earlier today. this was an interesting treat. Smooth, creamy deliciouness with a hint of something else going on in the background. One of those teas that is subtle and sweet. I rather enjoyed it and wish i had more to play with to really get the sense of the other flavours. Thanks for the share CK!

Yep. This is delicious, hot or cold.

AQ2T should think about making this a permanent or seasonal tea, imo. If they don’t do that I may consider petitioning them to make my own personal batch..

I wish I’d picked up more!

i am so happy that I did not review this tea the first time I tried it, because I remember being not too impressed. I have had it several times since and each time I try it I find something new to love about this tea. It steeps well multiple times, and the flavor subtly changes each time. It is a smooth, buttery, tea full of delicious subtle spices and each cup is a treat to see what flavors will emerge. this tea is not a bold, in your face tea, but rather smooth, relaxing and the kind that keeps surprising. A definite winner!

So I pulled out (I think) all of the coconut teas from A Quarter to Tea. I only ended up with 6, although there are a few places some could still be hiding. Or maybe there just aren’t all that many.

I had a recollection of liking this tea, and indeed, I do. It’s quite similar in flavour to my fave, Eggnog Poundcake, although the creaminess is a little different, as is the spicing. It tastes a touch more “chai-like” to me than the poundcake. Quite good, but the inclusion of coconut works against it due to rancidity issues (it is completely fine right now, but its longevity is generally reduced).
