Thanks to Kiaharii for letting me try out some of the fandom teas on Adagio. I want to love anything named TARDIS, but I was worried about this tea. I’ve never had a good experience with Adagio Earls. I decided to try this cold first, as I felt that might mellow out the bergamot a bit. I forgot about it and went out to the movies with my family. I ended up letting it go a little too long.

It’s still good though, woo! I was right about the bergamot getting mellowed out. I can taste each of the flavors: the Earl, the tart blueberry and the sweet creamy vanilla. I wish the blueberry taste was a little stronger, but that seems to be a problem I have with most blueberry teas, so that’s probably just me. I have enough to try this hot, so I’ll give it a chance

Kiaharii

Did you cold brew or hot then iced? I haven’t had this iced yet, but I will have to try it out.

Emilie

I cold brewed it. I’d definitely say it’s worth a try. I’d be worried that brewing hot and icing it might make it to bergamoty

gmathis

I like the notion of blueberry and bergamot together.

Autumn Hearth

Mayhaps for the season premiere? ;)

softrevolution

Sounds delicious! Although I am firmly in the I-would-love-it-regardless-because-it’s-TARDIS-tea camp :D

This is another blend from MissB! Thanks so much! I tried the other Tardis blend last week. This one is black tea rather than a mix of black and white. Both have berry. This one is supposed to be blackberry but it really just seems like hints of blueberry. I went with a really low steep time. I’ve had a similar blend from Adagio in the past – Jane Austen Mafia and the blackberry leaves ruin the tea if steeped too long. So a two minute steep it is. I don’t want to risk ruining this lovely sample! The flavor is very good, but I feel like it could be better. Mild bergamot, a little bit of berry, slight creaminess. Somehow it still seems a little bitter boiled at two minutes with one teaspoon. Honestly, surprisingly, if I had to pick between the two, I’d go with the other Tardis blend. Somehow the white tea of that one balances out the flavors and allows the berry to shine. The second steep wasn’t that great. Maybe it’s just not the blend for me. Maybe it’s for those who like lighter bergamot. Jane Austen Mafia is actually much tastier too.

MissB

I’m a huge fan of the other TARDIS tea myself, much more so than this one, which surprised me.

Josh Buteau

Wow! I really enjoyed this one, now I’m dying to try the other:) but you are right I’m definitely an Earl Grey lover first so I guess the bergamot flavor was a nice add to this:) you do have me intrigued about the other though:)

TeaLady441

I love this AND the Jane Austen Mafia, although they area really so similar. You might be right though – JAM may actually be the nicer blend…

Mmmmmm, snow day! Time to break out a tea while I start the homework that was supposed to be due today! Shhhhh. It was only watching movies and taking notes for extra credit, so nothing too major. This is sort of a backlog, I have drunk this one before. This is actually the first tea I bought online!

I steeped this one at 212 for about 3 minutes. I did 3 teaspoons per 16 oz, I was in the mood for more of a thicker cup.

First sip:
This is so smooth! It is so nice to drink. It just glides down my throat. I let it cool for a bit, so it is a little hotter than lukewarm and it is so easy to drink! I am really glad I picked this for my first cup today. Also, it is really easy to drink for an earl grey. It is not too overpowering with the bergamot.

Finishing off the cup:
I was very happy with this tea. It was such a pleasant cup to drink. I am usually not a fan of the sweeter teas, but this one wasn’t like drinking a cup of sugar. This was refreshing without being overwhelming.

Overall, I really liked this and I am very happy with this being the first tea I bought online. It is very drinkable and I see myself coming back to this tea in the near future. Maybe not today, but sometime soon. Only one thing though, I don’t watch Dr. Who… so…

there’s an easy way to fix that… start watching! heh

Okay, I’m not going to lie… I just bought this one purely because I’m a huge Doctor Who fan. And the artwork is great.

This smells divine! I know it’s supposed to be blackberry, but it smells like blueberry! Like blueberries and vanilla and black tea. I just opened the package, took a big sniff and told my coworker (I have all my tea packages sent to the office) that I wish I could have a shampoo that smelled this good. She, who hates tea, agreed that it would make an awesome potpourri.

But it’s not for smelling, it’s for drinking, gosh darn it! So I steeped up a cup. I wish the berry taste was as strong as the smell. Honestly, all I can really taste is Earl Grey. I was able to tease the berry out a bit by adding some rock sugar, but the strongest flavor is still Earl Grey. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I wish the other flavors would stand out more.

I’ll have to experiment more with doctoring it up at home.

From one Dr Who fan to another, we also have Farewell Ponds, Eleven, & River Song (so far). I love Cara McGee’s blends!

Lindsey

I also got River Song! Haven’t tried it yet though, my order just came in today.

Terri HarpLady

Yay! I’ll look forward to your review!

Shmiracles

i love Cara McGee’s blends too!
my favorite thing is a good lapsang blend, and i especially love Smaug (http://steepster.com/shmiracles/posts/153347) cuz it amazingly surprises. and Thorin is a good Puerh blend by her (http://steepster.com/shmiracles/posts/160081).
sad to say that Tardis was not my favorite. but i read someone’s review of Irene Adler and i’d like to try that. also i think Eleven, Nine, and Jack Harkness are on my to-buy-in-the-future list.

Terri HarpLady

I’ve got several of the Hobbit blends. Haven’t tried smaug yet, still not sure how I feel about Thorin, but I’ve only drank it once, so far.

Lindsey

Ohh, Cara McGee’s Nine looked really tasty, but I had to curtail my spending so I didn’t add it to my order.
I did throughly geek out over at 52teas though and buy Weeping Angel. Hoping it will be here in time for this weekend’s new episode!

Anyanka

Now Adagio has the fandom blends in custom tins, some of which are awesome, and it is taking all my self control not to buy the Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Downton Abbey ones.

Lindsey

I almost bought the TARDIS tin b/c it was so cute, but I’m glad I restrained myself now that I have the 3oz/4oz bag and am not totally digging it.

Don’t know if you’ve seen them, but a Buffy fan made Anyanka, Aud, and Anya blends on there, too.

Terri HarpLady

I can’t believe I still haven’t ordered Weeping Angel from 52…
I still haven’t tried the Sherlock blends…yet!
Regarding the tins: please somebody, hold me back! LOL
Actually, the only one I really want is the Tardis. I have a ton of tins here that I clean out & re-use, over & over again..

Anyanka

Thanks, I hadn’t seen those yet.

Linda

I had a similar problem with this blend – overpoweringly Earl Grey-ish when drinking in comparison to the yummy berry-vanilla scent in the dry blend.
And it looks as pretty as it smells, it should be potpourri!

As horrible as it sounds to put milk in this, I plan to try a London Fog using TARDIS instead of plain Earl Grey. That might help.

I do like this earl grey-ish tea, but I prefer the blueberry-caramel earl grey.

Still, it was very tasty. Thank you for sharing, MissB!

This tastes a little ‘burnt’ maybe I infused it a bit too long. It’s not bad, tho. I can’t really identify the Earl Grey in this – maybe a bit of the bergamot from it but not much. I can taste the berry more-so. I can’t really taste the vanilla, much, either. It has a bit of a soapy taste to it as it lingers. It’s so-so.

let me begin by saying that the arrival of ShortSorceress’s mammoth swap (i know i have never done one on this scale) was perfect. i have had a rotten week. nothing remarkable about that fact, we all have bad stretches, they come… they go… we survive… ideally we thrive. i was late for a doctor’s appointment last friday. it was the appointment where we were going to review the images of the MRIs taken to diagnose my injured right arm. because i was late i was handed a copy of the report by the receptionist and shuffled out the door.

depending on how you weight the value and application of information then i was in both a fortunate and unfortunate position. i have extensive experience with advanced first aid, and i have a neuro-transmission disease, which simply translates to: i know more than most regarding trauma to the vital systems and the nervous system especially. the only doctors that trump my knowledge base are very specialized.

unwisely i read the report (if only i had a tardis and could undo that fact)! the words lesion, lesions, cervical spine, atrophy and dubious were bandied about. this horrible diagnosis, these terrible terrible pictures were me. and i have more than enough education to know how serious everything APPEARED to be.

what about school? what about the future? sleep was elusive. food was disgusting. in a second my life had become a terrifying thing.

it took me a couple of days, but this is generally the way i exist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H5uWRjFsGc (the getting up again, not the booze) that and Concentrated Power of Will. nervous system diseases are always evaluated clinically: your images can light up like a christmas tree, but it’s your physical presentation is what’s most important. i found my feet. sometimes we get knocked about and forget what we know, namely that the piece of paper that i never should have been handed, that i never should have read may be me technically, but it is not at all how i present. the report does not accurately reflect my function.

it is very likely i have been like this for months, even years and the fall poked a previously dormant plaque. it’s the nature of the disease. somehow in my stress i had stopped drinking my tea. my horror had stopped me dead and i strove for a sense of control. tell me friends, how does eliminating a ritual that gives comfort help anything? it doesn’t. i’d like to say that i came to that conclusion myself, but a friend very reasonably pointed it out.

i’ve had teas arrive this last week. i’ve been storing them with the mental note ‘for a day better than this one’. counterproductive! and so when the mailbox door thumped and it became obvious that it was crammed full i retrieved the package from our miss ShortSorceress.

it was meant to be. there was a lovely sample of adagio’s tardis blend. the closest thing i can get in time travel aside from a massive graphic f/x budget or concurrent degrees in thermonuclear dynamics and theoretical astrophysics.

this tea is so smarta**. it will get a nice high mark because it hit so many points all for me. timing: yes, it is getting a nice mark because it arrived when i needed it. i don’t care if that isn’t as a result of adagio. it has a timelord smell palate (bear with me, no i am no crazier than usual, lol)… the dry leaf smells musty, but no unpleasantly so. makes me think of a ship full of rooms that haven’t been visited in a few years but are filled with good things. it also smells like something it really isn’t! for a half second it smells like an earl grey, but then i got a tea based round, orange, autumnal that segued into a berry muscat. so very appropriate! dr. who looks human, but really isn’t…. a perfect tea metaphor for a blend of this name.

steeps up to a lovely amber (again, very appropriate… amber freezes time after a fashion). makes me think of an earl grey/lady grey hybrid with some unseen twists.

i guess the last determining feature are the little blue flowers… they were tardis blue. neat! and then i added water… the became translucent with the flower bases weighted downwards. they looked very much like the opening sequence when the tardis goes sailing into roiling space/time. OH VERY GOOD!

i really can’t thank you enough ShortSorceress… if it had arrived yesterday or the day before it might not have given me what it did which is my first real grin in days. and thank you adagio teas (watch it folks, i intend to spell without stars this time…) for being such outstanding smart asses. the metaphors of taste and smell, the cheeky visual, and an elegant refined taste

btw: i am not normally a fan of earl grey… but this one was truly great.

Sorry you had to go through such a stressful and awful experience, without the presence of a doctor…it should not be permitted at all.

Short Sorceress

I’m glad to hear this arrived at the perfect time for you :)

JustJames

appropriate, don’t you think? that your timing with the TARDIS blend was so perfect? almost as though you knew i would need it that day…. are you and dr. w cousins? XP

Holy moly!! I didn’t think I could find a mixture of sweet, fruity, creamy and just such a wonderful blend as the 2 cups I just had. Every cup tastes like a blueberry muffin. Creamy notes hit you first with a blast of blueberry coming quick after, then the longer it steeps you go back for the high quality earl grey. The 2nd and 3rd steep we’re just as good as the 1st!! I hadn’t steeped a tea as many times in a day as this one!! And the other thing that makes it so awesome… In keeping with all things doctor who, the folks at Adagio give you an extra ounce at normal price…because “it’s bigger on the inside”:) definitely a staple in my cupboard!! Absolutely amazing!!

MissB

So glad you grabbed some of this! See, fruity tea can be delicious. :)

Josh Buteau

You’re absolutely right:)

tea-sipper

I was planning on having this one tomorrow. Can’t wait!

tea-sipper

Or was it the other Tardis? Ah, I don’t know at the moment!

Josh Buteau

Either way in sure the other TARDIS tea is just as good. How could it not be? It’s the TARDIS!!

I’m really glad I gave this one another try — I steeped it for longer and now I get more of the blackberry. Still no vanilla though. :/ Added a drop of stevia to sweeten and it’s a lot tastier than my first attempt.

That’s a bummer about the vanilla. I haven’t tried this tea, but I LOVE the name :)
