From Adagio Teas

Our Chamomile tea is made of the finest chamomile flowers from the Nile River Valley in Egypt. Considered a remedy for all ills by the ancient Egyptians, this golden herb remains a modern favorite to promote calm and relieve anxiety. When steeped, these fragrant chamomile blossoms smell of freshly cut apples and produce a rich, golden cup with calming flavor and sweet, floral finish. Our Chamomile tea is made with whole flower pieces and produces a delicious, caffeine-free infusion. It may also be served with a dash of honey.

Steep at 212° for 5-10 minutes.

would like to start by saying i rated it low(ish) because i do not like the taste of chamomile, just personal preference i guess, as it seems like it has a taste which some could enjoy

kind of sweetish flowery taste… not really sure how to explain taste….the smell and the taste are perfect mirror imo

i like the relaxing effect drinking it gives and apparently the vitamin A in its good for you so i may order more, i currently mix it with a decaf vanilla tea to make the taste acceptable (to me)

I don’t go through much chamomile, although I keep some around for blending and medicinal purposes. This was a freebie sample in a little pyramid bag. Because it’s much fresher than what’s mouldering away in my pharmaceuticals section, the apple-compatible flavor is easy to detect. Usually, it doesn’t do a thing for me as a sleep inducer, although that effect would be very welcome this evening! (Cats’ nap schedules are off. I did not want to be roused by paw-alarm at 4:00 a.m.)

Kaylee

paw-alarm is brutal! my cat used to try to wake me up specifically by pawing at my eyes and mouth, and that’s one of the many reasons he was banned from the bedroom despite being cuddly and adorable.

gmathis

We have two mostly indoor, one mostly outdoor. The other morning, I woke to find one sleeping between my bent knees and the other one (with the build and weight of a concrete block) on my feet.

Nik

Kaylee, how did banning your cat from the bedroom work for you? I had one built like a little wrestler, and she’d stick her paw under the door and rattle the door in its frame until I opened it. Then she’d stare at me, “mrowr”, and saunter off.

gmathis, oooh, free weighted blanket! =]

Kaylee

Yes, mine did this too! He really did not take kindly to being banned. We got a baby gate and set it up a bit away from the door. There was a bit of adjustment that needed to happen to figure out the right placement and distance, and he figured out how to squeeze between two specific bars that were wider apart than the others so we had to block off that gap, but with trial and error we eventually reached detente. He never stopped trying to sneak in when he saw an opportunity, but the early morning harassment did end.

Nik

Ah, I never tried a baby gate! I just had nightly arguments that she always won. =P

From Meowster! Thanks so much! If I were in the market for stocking up on chamomile, I actually wouldn’t mind stocking up on this one. The flavor is really good. It’s very representative and just shouts CHAMOMILE from the rooftops. There are full tiny chamomile blooms, but also some of the tiny pieces of it that like to make a mess of infusers. If only there weren’t those tiny pieces, but possibly that is contributing to this super chamomile flavor anyway.

WORK THROUGH ALL THE BACK LOG TEA! This was a nice chamomile. Pretty flavorful and smooth. The flowers are mostly whole, and have that soft almost creamy floral taste. Maybe even a fight hints of crisp apple; very faint though. Overall nice smooth tea that doesn’t really even need sweetener.

Kind of a weird taste. Not my favorite. Seems slightly sweeter than some other teas. Has a very medicinal taste to it. I couldn’t finish a tea pot worth of it.

Thank you to Nichole for sharing some of this tea with me!

My husband and I went for sushi tonight and decided as we were leaving for our dinner date that we would share some tea once we made it back home. We picked up a couple of teas on our way, one of which he is drinking now. I bought myself a minty black tea but decided to have this one instead since it’s so late.

When I opened the bag, my husband remarked that it smelled like honey and oats. I didn’t have that experience, but this does smell stronger than other chamomile teas I’ve had. The sachet actually had whole flowers mixed in with the usual powdery bits so that was a nice change. I steeped this according to the package directions and the liquid soon became a nice reddish color, almost like a light rooibos. I took a sip and was surprised to find that it actually tasted really bitter. I’m baffled because I don’t think I’ve ever had chamomile turn bitter for me before. Unfortunately, it’s a little hard to see past that flavor so I’m really not enjoying it.

It’s not the chamomile for me, but I’m still glad I was able to try it. Thanks again, Nichole!

I feel that way with some earl grey teas… I like earl grey, but not all.

Shae

I guess I just always thought that one chamomile tasted like another. I’ve never really had one that was so different. Lesson learned. :)

I usually really enjoy Chamomile, so I ordered some from Adagio. To my disgust it was musty and grassy, rather than lightly sweet and floral. Thinking I maybe had a bad batch, I ordered some in a coffee shop that served Adagio teas. It was again musty and grassy. Thanks, but I’ll go back to my bagged varieties.

Samples Only TTB
Continuing on with my taste comparison, this tea also tastes like celery, but with something else. I don’t know what, but once again odd.
I now added honey, but added to much considering theres only about 1/4 of a cup in my cup so it just tastes like honey. Ah well, better than celery.

Arshness

Okay that is really, really strange! I the Adagio kind is Egyptian and it is far sweeter than the German by comparison.
I have never heard anyone register Chamomile as celery before… Are you sure it’s not a contamination of your water or teaware?
Just… odd.

Mandy

I mean it’s possible, but I used the same stuff I always do and nothing before or after tasted like celery lol. I found it really weird that I tasted something so far from what everyone else tastes but they both tasted like it, idk it was the darnest thing.

Arshness

I am fascinated by how different your tastes are from mine. :) It’s really interesting. Chamomile is like sweet butter to me.

SIPDOWN (122)

GOOD RIDDANCE.
I’ve had this tea for foreveeeerrr
I decided to just turn this package upsidedown, along with a sipdown with my peppermint that I got the same day. This was from summer of last year so not too old, but definitely older than a lot of my other teas!

Cheri

Chamomile on its own just isn’t very good. It needs something to go with it for sure.

I really liked it but there was a lot of the stems to which I didn’t care for during clean up. Other than that I did enjoy it’s sweet simplicity.
