From Adagio Teas

Like the dance that inspired its name, our Foxtrot tea is an overnight success that will leave you giddy with joy. It is an herbal cocktail of Egyptian chamomile, South African rooibos (with a touch of vanilla) and fresh peppermint. A soothing blend of familiar tastes that produces a pleasantly original combination. It’s entirely caffeine-free, but you’ll still have a spring in your step from the delightful, delicately clean and sweet flavor.

Ingredients: Chamomile Flowers, Rooibos Tea, Peppermint Leaves & Natural Vanilla Flavor

This came with my last order from Adagio, and I figured from the start that it was going to be one of those teas pushed to the back of the cabinet, waiting for me to feel less than 100%. Well, it feels like something gnawed on the inside of my throat, so I decided to pull this one out. Camomile and I have an interesting relationship. When I’m well, it makes me feel nauseous but when I’m sick it’s nice and soothing.

This one is true to its brethren. It’s thick but not syrupy and goes down smoothly, giving my sinuses a little kick with the peppermint. Sadly, with the state of my nose right now I can’t pick out anything else, but those two elements do stand out.

I was surprised at the chunkiness when I first tried to measure it out – all the flowers had risen to the top, so I had to close it up again and shake it all around (maybe that’s where the dance name comes from?) to even things out. The directions said to steep for 5-10 minutes, so I steeped it for… oops. I was going to say 8 minutes, but then I realized that the pinch infuser doohickey is still in there. I guess I’m still infusing it! Yeah, I think another nap is totally in order.

All in all, the name is fun yet a little odd – when I’m ill enough to enjoy this tea, I’m probably never going to be up for dancing, but it does the job and I have to respect that.

Well, the peer pressure worked. I bought a bag.

I’m not a fan of chamomile, but this blend is pretty good. I love me some rooibos and I think this is the 1st “anything” that I like it blended with. I still haven’t found a flavored rooibos that I like. :(

I drank two cups hot and it kind of felt medicinal in a way. This isn’t a bad thing, but I might reserve this tea for sore throat, feeling funky days. I’ll try it iced next, since that seems to be getting rave reviews.

Perk: after drinking, my breath is feeling quite minty clean.

takgoti

Argh, I need to get this. Curious to hear about the iced experiment.

TeaEqualsBliss

Did you oversteep by chance? I did that once and it takes medicine-E too…just curious.

LENA

There is a very good chance that I oversteeped. Between customer’s phone calls, trying to look busy, thinking about what to eat for lunch, etc. I’ll try it again and really watch the clock. Thanks for the advice!

I don’t hate this. I was expecting to hate this, but I don’t.

Not a fan of rooibos or chamomile. I’m okay-ish with peppermint but much prefer spearmint. But for some reason, this mix kind of works for me. I mean, I’m not going to suddenly convert and drink this every night. But every so often, I might find the desire to have a little.

Oddly enough, I get a chocolate taste from it. No clue why. Not heavy chocolate, sort of the aftertaste from some Girl Scout Thin Mints.

I’m not a fan of rooibos either, but I liked this one, too. I agree, it’s something about this mix of flavours that makes them work for me here when they don’t tend to work for me otherwise – but I’m not entirely sure quite what!

Auggy

Maybe they spike it with crack?

By far one of my favorite teas. Somehow this combination of peppermint, rooibos and chamomile makes for a chocolatey-smelling, intensely creamy elixir that is wonderfully calming.

takgoti

Hrm. Some not quite favorable reviews had me on the fence on about Foxtrot, but you have made it sound delightful.

neonblackjack

I highly recommend it. It’s one of my favorite late-night teas. But if you find a better similar tea, let me know!

I love foxtrot. It is one of my common evening time teas. I don’t know how rooibos + chamomile + mint = creamy flavor, but somehow that is how it turns out. It is wonderful. Just got a new big bag, too!

It keeps nicely, too. I kept a pound in a tin for better than two years and it was just as minty smooth when I got to the bottom.

LENA

i hate chamomile, but i’m a fan of foxtrot. i think it’s the mint that cuts the chamomile taste.

First impression of the tea is that I am very happy with it and this will be something that I buy again. I really like how the flavors blend to create both a taste and aroma of cream. I’ve used chamomile tea to help calm me down before bed in the past, but this tea has a nice jolt to it with the rooibos and peppermint included here. Looking forward to experimenting with this tea. Initial steep was 1.5 tsp, 180º for 7 minutes.

My first attempt at cold brew. 48 ounces of cold water over a very heaping 1/3 cup of leaf, brewed in the fridge for about 13 hours. (I still have the leaf in there, because while delicious, it could stand to be stronger.)

Delicious! I didn’t expect this tisane to be so good iced but it really, really is. The peppermint overwhelms a little bit, but that’s nice and refreshing for a cold drink. I wish there was more chamomile to it, but I find that true of this blend while hot too — the chamomile doesn’t really shine until the second infusion.

For all you tea lovers I hate to say this, but I was recently introduced to tea by a friend I work with. Before having “real” tea, I was a celestial seasonings junkie and didn’t know there was a difference between it and loose leaf tea. My favorite tea of all time was Sleepytime tea so my friend recommended Foxtrot to me. I have to say that from the moment I opened the bag I loved the smell of the tea and after steeping it couldn’t believe how wonderful this tea is. I can taste all the mint and this tea is so smooth and relaxing. This is my new bedtime tea and I will probably be drinking it daily. Thanks so much Brandice.

Foxtrot is my first pick when I need something warm and pleasant, yet not overly powerful or challenging (or bitter, it seems impossible to oversteep this). A great pre-lunch or mid-afternoon tea when – unencumbered by accompanying food – you can enjoy it to the fullest.

The flavor blend is fairly incredible, as it tastes like none of the individual ingredients, but instead gives off a warm, friendly – and importantly, not overpowering – mellow sweetness. The mint lingers but a moment, and then leaves to let you enjoy the next smooth mouthful.

Erm, well…it’s different. I get the chamomile and mint upfront, but the rooibos is kinda hiding in the background. It’s an interesting evening time option. It has grown on me since the first time I’ve had it and I realized that I should steep it longer….but, it doesn’t make me want to dance (maybe dance like Elaine Benes, but not a suave foxtrot). And I’m not too sure that I’ll reorder even a sample tin again.

Sorry this is so choppy, but that’s kinda how I feel about it right now. M

Reading this, it occurs to me. Someone really needs to do a tea blend called Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. ;) No, I’m not sure what would be involved, but when we figure that out, we’ll know the recipe!
