From Butiki Teas

Almond Indulgence combines our Organic Kundaly black tea with cinnamon, amaranth, and almond pieces together for a flavor that resembles an almond cookie. This tea has notes of citrus and earth and finishes with a sweet almond and warm cinnamon flavor. We recommend adding a little brown crystal sugar for a wonderful dessert drink.

Ingredients: Organic Kundaly Indian Black Tea, Blanched Almond Slices, Cinnamon, Amaranth, Natural Flavor (vegan)

Recommended Brew Time: 4 minutes
Recommended Amount: 1 1/2 teaspoons of tea for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 212 F

Almond Indulgence? I didn’t get much almond flavor at all. In fact I didn’t get much black tea flavor at all. I found this to be really weak, even when made with more leaves than suggested, and longer steep time.

Bonnie

Are your measurements 8oz. of water? Natural flavor can be a little more subtle but in reading your reviews, it seems that something isn’t working. I’ve never read so many reviews of Butiki Tea’s with off tasting comments. Filtered water, temp, timing and measurements all correctly administered should normally work out.

I’m not sure why I don’t like Butiki’s flavored black teas. I tried this one again tonight and have added a new tasting note, and adjusted my rating up a bit. I still found this to be very weak until I added more sugar, but by the time I added enough sugar to make the flavors pop, it was too sweet. Still not a fan, and it would make me happy to like this tea.

I didn’t care for this one (Almond Indulgence, not Almond Cookie). The tea base is very weak, and I don’t taste a strong almond flavor either – this tea tastes a bit like I imagine hot water mixed with a bit of almond extract would. I’m not really tasting cinnamon either.

I tried using more leaf, since I like my tea pretty strong – this has made a big difference with some other Butiki blends, but no luck here. The tea was still weak, and there was this sweet flavor I couldn’t quite identify but really didn’t enjoy. Soy milk didn’t help either – it only enhanced the mystery sweet flavor.

This was my first almond-flavored tea, and I think almond teas are probably not for me – I generally go for fruit flavors or chais when I drink flavored teas, so this was a bit of a departure. That said, I have enjoyed Butiki’s Maple Pecan Oolong.

First of all this tea smells amazing! It’s sweet and very slightly cookie/cakey. However, when steeped it smells different and more of the spices come threw but not in an offensive way. This black tea is not like something I’ve had before. It has a pleasant light feel and yes it tastes like apple pie!! Nice but not “Almondy”.

Another sample from my Butiki order. Unfortunately I think the cinnamon overpowers a lot of the almond taste for me, which is a shame because I think I prefer almond flavor to cinnamon. But that does not mean this is a bad tea. It’s actually quite good! I don’t know how Butiki does it, but so far the four teas I’ve tried have all been really pleasant. I know I overbrewed this one (which is maybe why the cinnamon is stronger?) but there was no bitterness and it was still a treat to drink. Even when it cooked down to lukewarm it was still yummy. Not something I would buy, but definitely something I’d recommend to a friend who enjoys cinnamon teas.

This was my morning cup of tea today.

When I opened the package, it smelled very strong of almonds. I thought it smelled wonderful, and was excited to try it.

I definitely get a light almond taste with a hint of cinnamon. After steeping, I think the tea smells more like cinnamon than almond. Seeing as I really enjoy almonds and cinnamon, I really enjoyed this tea.

Another excellent tea from Butiki!

This is the most amazing scented tea ever! So good. A short steep time results in a strong black tea. Wonderful almonds. It does taste just like a cookie! An amazing tea – very sweet tasting. It reminds me why I love tea! I haven’t tried anything that wasn’t delicious from Butiki, and I’ve tried a bunch now!

Lots of dried fruit (def. distinctly cranberry) and not a lot of almond. I think this blend has not aged as well as could be hoped. It is tasty, but I’m happy to have finished this sample off.

Hello Steepster! I’m back, albeit very briefly. I’m currently having some issues and dealing with some things, at the same time trying to write my dissertation (and a million other essays) and finish my degree. Unsurprisingly, I haven’t had much time for steepster of late. I was starting to worry that if I didn’t make some time for it soon I would never come back, and that cannot happen! So I’m making a brief stop by just to check in.

I chose this tea because I haven’t written a tasting note on it yet, and had put it up on the Butiki trading post as I think it could go to a more appreciative home than my own – so many people seem to love it, but it’s just good to me. Nobody has taken it off my hands yet, so if anyone is interested you’re welcome to it.

This tea reminds me of the Mrs. Hudson Adagio custom blend from Cara McGee’s Sherlock collection, only with a much better black base (I think one of my favourites) and a more subtle almond flavouring. In my head I associate this tea with grandma type people, and it could be to do with this connection. The almond flavour is the first thing I notice, but it doesn’t last long and is replaced by the base tea, which is a lovely well-rounded black that goes very well with milk (I’m drinking it like a traditional English cuppa today). The note that lingers the most is the cinnamon, which only comes through in the aftertaste. This is definitely an enjoyable cup of tea, and maybe a good choice for brunch or when I want something that’s not too fussy, but it’s definitely a like more than a love for me.

I love almonds and almond-flavored things, so I was disappointed that this one sold out before I had a chance to try it. Thank you to Zack for swapping me some to try! It’s delicious. The dry leaf smells strongly of marzipan. Steeped, the flavor is more complex: plenty of sweet almond, but also a touch of spice, a hint of citrus, and a definite pastry flavor. Everything works together really well and it comes out as a very indulgent dessert tea (befitting the name for sure!). I drank my first cup black, but I’m guessing this would also be lovely with milk or as a latte.

Mmmmm!!
This tea is delicious!
I over-steeped it for a couple minutes and it didn’t turn bitter at all. It was perfectly fine! I love the bready, pastry quality to it. Gives it kinda a creamy texture. And the cinnamon in it isn’t too over-powering. It’s delicious! Great desert tea!
Thank you soo much for letting me try this one, and giving me a generous sample, The Cookie Lady!! You’re the best!! :D :D
