From Butiki Teas

Pistachio Ice Cream has an Organic Mao Jian base with generous amounts of roasted pistachios and a dash of lotus stamens. The sweet roasted pistachio flavor is immediately noticed followed by prominent notes of heavy cream. Light notes of vanilla can also be distinguished. Add some sugar to turn this smooth full-bodied tea into a dessert treat that resembles pistachio ice cream.

Ingredients: Organic Green Tea, Pistachios (roasted, unsalted), Lotus Stamens, Natural Flavoring (vegan)

Recommended Brew Time: 2 minutes 30 seconds
Recommended Amount: 1 level teaspoon of tea for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 180 F

I was feeling bored with my collection and I found another sample of this hidden away. Excitement ensues!
Brewed it up with one sugar, teeny bit of milk. Took one sip, too hot! Pick up the laptop… Dog shoves her face into the tea cup and drinks tea… So much for that! lol
I should get ready for my dentist appointment anyway.

Butiki Teas

Oh no, sorry. Hahaha. My chinchilla does that all the time. He tries to climb into the cup of tea and can smell tea from like a mile away.

Autistic Goblin

I spilled some matcha awhile back (from Red Leaf Tea) my dog was all over that and looks hopeful everytime I go to make a cup. I don’t share my matcha :D

BoxerMama

LOL! She’s only ever showed interest in Cinnamon Heart by DT before. She didn’t even give me warning.

Terri HarpLady

LOL! The imagery of this just made my day! Sorry you didn’t get to drink your tea, but thank you for this gem!

Butiki Teas

Pistachio Ice Cream, the preferred tea of dogs everywhere. Hahaha

BoxerMama

She’s a bit of a brat, but I love her way too much! lol. I even thought it was funny.

Terri HarpLady

It’s things like that that make me miss my great dane, Ellie Mae. She had such a humorous personality, & a knack for walking through the kitchen & grabbing whatever she saw on the counter or table en route to the (big) doggy door. It was infuriating, but I loved her, & when she left this world I cried as if I’d lost a child, which basically I had. (I’m teary-eyed now, just thinking of her). A week after her passing a huge black great dane showed up on my front porch! When I opened the door he walked right in! We hung out for awhile,he acted like we were old friends, then I called the number on his tag, & his daddy came & got him. I am certain that he came to tell me that Ellie said, “Hi”.

BoxerMama

That is such a sweet story. :*( These are my first dogs of my own. Octane has his dysfunctions in that I don’t think he’s right in the head, lol. Rally is my baby, she follows me everywhere, counter surfs, steals socks and undies, and has eaten 3 couches. But, she is the most gentle creature in the world. She hides under my daughter’s bed and watches her play, she licks your face when you’re upset and she LOVES to spoon. It was only a matter of time before I started sharing tea, she decided it should be now.

Terri HarpLady

I never feel quite complete without a dog in my life, but I haven’t been able to get myself to get another one, yet…

I fell in love with DAVIDs Pistachio Cream when I first tried it. Then, after just one cup, it was gone and no longer available in store. However, I was so excited when I saw Butiki had a Pistachio Ice Cream fix because I could replace my beloved Pistachio Cream with what I expected would be an even better version. So I picked this up in the BF sale having never tried it before.

This particular cup actually came to me from OMGsrsly (thank you for sharing!). She very generously sent some along in a swap which has given me the opportunity to try this tea without having to open the one I bought. I think this has worked out for the best because although I like this tea, I don’t like it as much as the DAVIDs version and since I have lots of that, I think this might be added to my stash sale.

This has a great pistachio flavor but it is more subtle than its DAVIDs counterpart. There is a slight creaminess but I find myself wanting more. Plus, it is a green tea which makes brewing a bit of a pain. I guess this one is just not for me.

Stephanie

Butiki was making this long before David’s!

VariaTEA

I know but I found Butiki after I found Davids so for me, Pistachio Cream came first.

I never thought I really cared about pistachio flavored things until I had a pistachio macaron from Pierre Herme. WOW. (I also had an asparagus/hazelnut one. It was weird.) While this is not toothache-inducing sweet like those, it still very much reminds me of that macaron. And most importantly, it is readily available.

The green tea is nice and subtle. It’s there, but it doesn’t take away from the flavors. Vanilla, pistachio, cream, they are all there. I get the macaron more than ice cream but it’s also hot and I usually have a hard time with typically cold flavors in hot form. It’s still incredible though.

I already made a second steep, and once it cools I will try it iced. Then I’m going to cold steep the leaves for later, I can’t wait to try this iced, clearly!

Ysaurella

Pierre Hermé is a GOD of macarons ! you should try as well the ones from Ladurée (pistachio ones are really nice)

momo

I had some from Ladurée too, but I can’t remember which ones now :( I guess I have to go back!

Ysaurella

the ones I especially love from Ladurée are Rose and Violet :)

momo

I have a picture of them! http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2723/5794094258_fb33db282e_z.jpg But I can’t remember what any of them are. They’re so pretty.

Ysaurella

I would say from left to right :
caramel beurre salé,apricot, raspberry, cassis (blackcurrant),pistachio, rose, strawberry, praliné
just typing the names I have an enormous need to eat a macaron :D

momo

I definitely remember the strawberry now. My mom probably bought the pistachio one. Finding the picture made me want to eat one too. The ones here just cannot compare at all :(

So excited to try this one! I love pistachios.
Green tea is not usually my favourite, but flavoured is usually ok

This is a pretty good green tea. Slightly sweet pistachio with vanilla that tastes creamy. I don’t know if I would really call this flavour ice cream, but it is creamy. There is a slight vegetal aftertaste.

I decided to cold brew the resteep for about 8 hours. This turned out great! A little bit sweeter with a little less vegetal taste. Now I like it even more! I will certainly cold brew the resteep from now on!

I have been rather desperate to try some of these Butiki blends for quite some time now. They seem to be so unanimously well received and strawberry oolong in particular sounds like something that can’t fail. So when I was in a position to offer Hesper June a sample from my collection of something she was interested in trying and I had the chance to ask, I took the opportunity to ask if she might be able to spare a sample of some of that. She was!

This particular one wasn’t initially one that had made that much of a bleep on my radar. Not until I actually removed it from the box that Hesper June sent me. Then I went all ‘Ooooooooooh!’ and my eyes were like this O.O and now I’m going to try it having just been waiting for a good time to do so since, ooh, Friday.

The leaves definitely smelled like pistacio ice cream. In a sort of way in which the ice cream doesn’t smell cold, which is kind of odd. I imagine if you could freeze dry ice cream, that’s what it would smell like. Powerfully nutty too and almost marcipan-y.

After steeping it’s less of the freeze dried ice cream and more of the pistachio and almost marcipan-y notes. It reminds me of Christmas marcipan sweets, which frankly makes me wonder if I’m going into some specific Christmas mode or something! Second time today I’ve had something that I thought smelled like Christmas.

Oh, that’s very pistachio on the flavour! How intereting! There have been so many different nutty flavoured teas out there, but I’ve never had one with pistachio before and now I honestly can’t think why. It lends it’s flavour beautifully to the base, and I definitely think a green tea was the right choice for the base here.

I’m getting mostly the green base and the pistachios in the flavour, but then it’s a very smooth experience. Long and smooth and thick. I think this is supposed to be the ice cream bit, and although it’s not as sweet as actual ice cream, it does indeed invoke that sort of thought. (If it was as sweet as ice cream, I probably wouldn’t have liked it.)

I’m so glad I asked Hesper June to sample some Butiki, and I’m glad she decided to share some of this one with me. It’s lovely.

Autistic Goblin

It’s very tasty :D

TheTeaFairy

Butiki has some of the best flavored tea I’ve ever had! It’s never overdone and the quality is always remarkable…

Hesper June

I am glad you like it! I think its pretty tasty too.

Daisy Chubb

For some reason today I had a Mariah Carey Christmas song in my head out of no where! Maybe it’s the moon…

__Morgana__

Sounds wonderful. I love pistachio.

Azzrian

This really makes me want to get the pistachio matcha from Red Leaf!
I have this tea though and it is VERY yummy! You should get this and cantaloup and cream if you have not tried that yet!

Autistic Goblin

oh yes you must try the cantaloupe and cream it’s very yummy :D

Angrboda

Azzrian and Helena, cantaloupe and cream was also shared with me by Hesper June. I’ll have to try it soon!

DaisyChubb, oh I know how that goes. I’ve had Good King Wenceslas well and truly stuck in my head for two years now! O.o

TheTeaFairy, that seems to be agreement. It makes me wish I could actually shop there. Alas…

Oh my. Oh yum num num num num! So good!

The green tea and flavors of pistachio and cream meld seamlessly together … so sweet and creamy and nutty and GOOD. The green tea is sweet and barely vegetal. I taste hints of vegetation, but, they are very faint. The pistachio tastes sweet and nutty, and adds a delectable toasty note to the cup. The cream tastes … well, creamy. Smooth and rich and offers a sweet vanilla tone.

This one is awesome served hot, and just as delicious served iced. Love this one … absolutely LOVE it.

Bonnie

I know it sounds like a fru fru tea you won’t like but golly gee you do!

ScottTeaMan

sounds good

Kittenna

Tell me your brewing secret! I didn’t get much out of this the first time I made it, and I have a bit of a sample from Azzrian left as well as some more en route from my recent Butiki order, so I would like to figure out how best to prepare it :)

LiberTEAS

Well, I steeped it in my breville. Water was set to 170°F, and I steeped it for 2 minutes.

Kittenna

Does the Breville hold the water temp at 170F?

Azzrian

From what I have heard / read / etc I think it does for 30 minutes

LiberTEAS

Yes, that’s what makes it significantly different from brewing in a teapot or other methods – the temperature does not drop while the tea is brewing. So, one thing I learned over the course of the year that I’ve had my miraculous machine is that I need to lower the steep times slightly from what I would have when I would steep in a teapot, because the brewing temperature remains intact during the brewing process.

Bonnie

I didn’t think this was a fussy tea to brew and I’ve had it several times. I use a old fashioned tea cozy from April Cornell to keep my pots hot! $14 online and big!

Kittenna

Hmm, interesting. I always brew just in-cup, and I know a fair bit of heat is lost during the infusion. I could use my Timolino to hold a water temperature, or my new double-walled glass… thanks for giving me some ideas to play around with!

ScottTeaMan

Krystaleyn-you probably know that if you use a single cup, pre warming it with hot water helps a good deal in keeping the tea warm, or you can get an electric mug warmer pretty cheap. In the case of teapots-pre warm the teapot, or there are teapot warmers that you place candles in (I wouldn’t recommend scented candles for this), and place the teapot over the warmer. :))

Butiki Teas

Krystaleyn-I haven’t found this tea to be particularly picky about temperature. I’ve had a chance to test this tea with a large amount of people at events. Of all the flavored teas that I do this one is the one that gets such a mixed reaction. I’ve heard a fair amount of either its not my thing or its ok but it also gets crazy fanatics that want to buy the rest of what’s in stock. It’s a very unusual reaction compared to my other teas. I’ve almost discontinued the tea a number of times but the tea does have some fans that purchase regularly. The only thing I would recommend is trying it with some crystal sugar. That really makes the flavors pop. If that doesn’t work, then you probably just don’t like the tea.

Kittenna

@ScottTeaMan – I am guilty of the sin of microwaving my water (so I don’t have to worry about preheating my cup). My options are really limited. I have an electric kettle at work but it’s a pain to ferry it back and forth… I am contemplating getting another though.

@Butiki – I was having trouble getting much flavour at all – what I did taste was nice, but it was WAY too weak. Perhaps I’ll try again now and use up what I currently have. Sugar is another option too – my preference is not to use it, but maybe it’s worth a shot!

I’m FINALLY trying this one…special thanks to Liberteas for some of her stash! Woot!

My Grandfather’s FAVE two ice cream flavors were Almond Pistachio as well as Maple Walnut! This one reminds me of him. It is VERY much like Pistachio Ice Cream. It’s creamy and nutty and really quite FAB!

Darn Brilliant Flavoring here! Thanks for this blast from the past!

Nik

I neeeeeeed to try this.

Autistic Goblin

yes, yes you do. Don’t forget to add Good Morning Sunshine to your cart as well if you haven’t tried it or ask Butiki (Stacy) for a sample :D

inguna

I wanted to try this but when I placed my order it was sold out. I also LOVE Pistachio ice cream.

CupofTree

omg pistachio ice cream is my favorite.

Nom nom nom. I had this in my travel mug this morning. It was wonderfully creamy and nutty and just right for breakfast. I had it with an egg sandwich and it totally held its own. The only down side, and it’s a significant one, is that I can’t smell the tea when it’s in the travel mug. The smell of this tea is so much a part of what makes it wonderful that not being able to smell it did diminish my enjoyment. Oh, well. Lesson learned!

I had the second steep when I got home from work. Nutty pistachio goodness as always.

Kaylee

Seriously? 6 likes in 2 hours? Pretty sure that’s a record for me :) Thanks, folks!

I quite enjoyed this tea it has enough balance between the natural flavours of the base tea and the flavouring and I quite like that the flavouring is not in your face.

To be quite honest I have really only had pistachio ice cream in Italy. Just like cassis and coconut is the flavour I think of when I remember France. Pistachio gelato, is forever linked to Italy for me. I ate a lot of it when I was there and it was generally the flavour that we used to judge the quality of a gelato stand. The best was the thick buttery ones that were not flourescent green.

I brewed this tea in accordance with reccomendations and ended up with a golden yelllow brew with a nutty and slightly spinachy smelling green tea, with a sweet, spicy, nutty scent, with notes of vanilla.

The flavouring has a suggestion of pistachio gelato but the florescent green kind not the thicker buttery nutty kind. There is a hint of sugar and ice cream the rich kind made with egg. The tea underneath, is sweet, slightly spicy , with enough of a spinachy vegetal note that gives it a lot of body. There is a nice subtle balance between flavours.

A really nice subtly sweet and spicy tea. Thanks to TastyBrew for sending me this generous sample!

teaqueen

I ordered an ounce of this tea while it was on sale. I liked it a lot! It’s really good with a spoonful of sugar.

yyz

I’m glad you love it! I’m not enjoying my second steep!

yyz

I meant I’m enjoying it! I need to turn off autocorrect on this tablet. It tends to change things without me noticing.

OMGsrsly

yyz, autocorrect can result in some seriously awkward conversations… :D

Thank you so much Azzrian for sharing this blend with me.

I really enjoy it, I find the green tea base very subtle without any astringency nor bitterness even if I over-steeped it a little.

This is my second Butiki teas only and I am really impressed with this brand.
The pistachio flavour is the leading role – it is clearly creamy but cannot really say I get an iced cream flavour, much more a creamy pistachio (which is perfect to me)

As my mug is cooling, the flavours become more interesting : the pistachio is more & more present and the creamy note totally invades the aftertaste. I imagine it could be a very nice iced tea as well.

I really loved it – thanks again Azzrian

Ysaurella – butiki has wonderful flavoured teas! Stacy has some serious magic in the way that she blends things. If you like grapefruit…try her grapefruit dragon well.

All of that being said, she also has some mighty fine unflavoured teas too!

Ysaurella

Azzrian was so generous to me …she sent me several Butiki teas to taste these fantastic blends. Now I feel I won’t be long to place order !

Sil

If there are more you want to try that I have in my cupboard let me know in January! I’m happy to send among a few more for you to try!

If you like black straight teas….try her premium Taiwanese Assam. Soooo good.

Azzrian

And you also sent me SO many WONDERFUL teas!!! Thank you so much I have enjoyed many – now that I can make tasting notes I am too sick to drink tea :( Hope to make some notes very soon!

Sil

Ooh looking forward to see the reviews from both of you :)

Tis also makes me want to try this tea again….as luck would have it, I do have a bag of it haha

Ysaurella

@ Azzrian : oh get well soon we all had a cold around on last days
@ Sil : no probs, we’ll see in January for our swap :) I am sure I have a lot to discover about Butiki teas and other North american tea brands
