Rwanda Rukeri is an Orange Pekoe grade green tea that originates from a cooperative of small farms in Rwanda. This tea is grown at an altitude of 5,900 feet above sea level. The thin forest green leaves unfurl during steeping to produce a vibrant lime-colored liquor. This unique tea has a juicy mouth feel with notes of artichoke and seaweed. Rwanda Rukeri is an assertive tea that produces a pleasant astringency.

Ingredients: Green Tea

Recommended Brew Time: 2 minutes
Recommended Amount: 1 level teaspoon of tea for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 180 F

I got many steepings from this tea.
I always love that!
I also love buttery teas and this had that flavor element for sure!
I will say it is a tea you need to pay attention to while steeping as it tends to be particular but I find that fairly common in higher quality teas. If over steeped or steeped in too hot of a water temp it does become bitter and astringent quite easily!
Not a tea to make first thing in the morning lol but much better for gong fu session in the after noon / early evening.
The aroma has a nice salty smell to it – ocean mist aroma which is refreshing and eye opening!
It is very vegetative and has a steamed asparagus flavor note.
I agree with LiberTEAS that it is not brothy but has a much thinner mouthfeel.
If you are looking for a light, refreshing, and evolving tea – one that changes with each steeping – this is a great tea to try!
I was tempted to allow it to steep longer because by doing so it brings forth more buttery goodness but learned the hard way that also brings out the bitter flavors.
Be patient with this tea!!! It will give you the butter in later steepings if you give it a chance to work its magic in its own way and time!
Its a delicate tea and needs to be treated with respect.
Sometimes I don’t have time for that – or just want my tea NOW or space out my steeps. In these times this is not the tea to reach for.
This is a relaxing laid back take your time with me tea and I really recommend that you do multiple steepings to get the full range this tea has to offer.

Ahh! This is so refreshing!

The flavor is unmistakably vegetative, I taste notes of artichoke and kelp, and there is a fair amount of tangy astringency to the cup. It has a citrus-y finish. The mouthfeel is lighter than most green teas I’ve tasted lately, and it’s rather refreshing. It doesn’t feel “soupy” or brothy (and I’m not saying that thicker mouthfeel is bad), and because it doesn’t feel quite as heavy or thick, it seems to really quench the thirst. Very nice. Very nice indeed!

Thanks to my Sororitea Sista’s for some of this!

I think I over infused this a bit and got more vegetal than refreshing and/or citrus than my sista’s Liberteas and Azzrian got out of it but I still really like the way this one tastes (possibly) over-infused and vegetal. I will be more aware the next time I infuse it to go a little less. As for this time around with the vegetal flavors popping thru…they are comparable to Kelp/Spinach/Collar Greens, even.

Backlogging from last week.

I ordered a nice little green tea sample pack as a new customer, this is from that pack.

The leaves are relatively straight and dark green and are very green smelling. There is no other way I can really describe it other than green. The wet leaves turned a bright green and smelled very oceanic with steamed greens.

The taste contained notes of seaweed and artichokes. There was a sweet juiciness that fills the mouth. There is a bit of astringency in this tea, something I do not care for. This is my first time trying a tea from Rwanda, one of the reasons I’m not rating this, the other being the astringency.

Got my latest Butiki order today! I’m really glad I jumped on the limited-release flavors from the Amoda box, because they smell uh-MAY-zing. In a move that was out-of-character for me (though in keeping with my current project Drink Your Greens), I decided to try this one right away.

The scents were unexpected – the aroma in the bag was rather fruity with hints of lime, and while brewing it smelled like vegetal chicken broth. The taste of the liquor is similar to its aroma and quite savory, but halfway through the cup I’m experiencing the thing where the flavors kind of fade. Is that what palate fatigue is? I’ll try more leaf and/or bottled mineral water in the future.

I don’t think I’ve had any African green teas before, but this one seems like a very interesting and unusual specimen!
